OBJECTIVE: Integration of services is a promising way to improve access to contraception in sub-Saharan Africa, but few studies have evaluated this strategy to increase access to contraception among women requiring anticoagulation. Our objective was to evaluate a model of care integrating contraceptive counseling and provision within an anticoagulation management clinic in Eldoret, Kenya, to determine the impact on long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) use.
STUDY DESIGN: We performed a prospective observational study of reproductive-age women referred for integrated services from the an

BACKGROUND: Long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) are safe, effective and convenient post-abortal methods. However, there is concern that some LARCs may reduce the effectiveness of abortifacient drugs or result in other adverse outcomes.
OBJECTIVE AND RATIONALE: We undertook two systematic reviews to examine the early administration of LARCs in women undergoing medical abortion with mifepristone and misoprostol. (i) For women who are having a medical abortion and who plan to use a progestogen-only contraceptive implant or injectable, does administration of the contraception at the sam

BACKGROUND: Uterine perforation with intravesical migration is an exceedingly rare complication of intrauterine device (IUD) use. Its non-specific symptomatology often leads to delayed diagnosis, while the presence of a uterine scar, such as from a prior cesarean section, may significantly increase the risk.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 38-years-old woman (gravida 5, para 2) with a history of two cesarean sections presented at 8 weeks of gestation for termination of pregnancy. A V-shaped copper IUD had been placed over 10 years earlier. Notably, she reported a 1-year history of intermittent urinary f

BACKGROUND: Family planning (FP) is essential for sustainable development, maternal health, and women's reproductive well-being. Despite its critical role, Rwanda continues to experience a highly unmet need for FP. Women's experiences and perceptions of contraceptive methods can significantly affect their adoption and use. This study aimed to assess the sexual function and well-being of women using modern FP methods in Rwanda.
METHODOLOGY: A multicenter cross-sectional study involving 415 women aged ≥18 years who had used a modern FP method for at least ≥6 months was conducted across three ur

Objectives: Emergency contraception (EC) provides an opportunity to avoid an unwanted pregnancy following unprotected sexual intercourse (UPSI), failure of a regular contraceptive method, or after sexual assault. Two main methods are currently available: oral pills or the copper-T intrauterine device. In recent years there has been some debate regarding the efficacy of oral therapy in obese women. In this brief commentary we review new evidence, published after the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) referral of 2014, relating to the eff
