Fungal keratitis caused by a dematiaceous Pleosporales member following ocular trauma with a wooden fragment: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Fungal keratitis is a vision-threatening infection. Keratitis caused by dematiaceous fungi belonging to or related to the order Pleosporales is rare and diagnostically challenging because culture growth may be slow, morphology may be nonsporulating, and species-level identification may require molecular methods. CASE PRESENTATION: A 44-year-old male forestry worker developed right ocular pain and a corneal ulcer after ocular trauma with a wooden fragment. He was referred to our hospital approximately one month after the injury; this first visit was defined as Day 0 (202X/11/27). A

Comparison of three different intraocular lens implantation techniques in the absence of capsular support: sutured scleral, haptic flanged intrascleral, and four flanged intrascleral fixations.

INTRODUCTION: After lens extraction, if the capsular bag insufficiency occurs, there are different IOL implantation techniques. IOL implantation in the posterior chamber is safer in eyes with low endothelial cell count, peripheral anterior synechiae, shallow anterior chamber, and glaucoma. Alternative approaches for scleral fixation techniques, both with and without sutures, continue to undergo development. In this study, we aimed to compare the postoperative outcomes of the sutured scleral fixation (SSF), haptic flanged intrascleral fixation (HFISF) and four flanged intrascleral fixation (FFI

Non-invasive detection of corneal sub-basal nerve plexus changes in multiple myeloma patients by confocal laser scanning microscopy.

PURPOSE: Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) is a non-invasive technique for cellular in vivo imaging of the human cornea. CLSM screening was evaluated for early detection of corneal nerve morphology changes and neuropathogenic events in different stage multiple myeloma (MM) patients. As MM patients show disease as well as therapy-related neuropathological symptoms, CLSM potentially provides a tool for non-invasive early detection of neuropathogenic events. CLSM findings were compared with the severity of peripheral neuropathic (PNP) symptoms. METHODS: The study enrolled 25 MM patients

Visualization of Keratopathy Associated With the Antibody-Drug Conjugate Belantamab Mafodotin Using Infrared Imaging in Patients With Multiple Myeloma.

PurposeThe treatment of patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) with the antibody-drug conjugate belantamab mafodotin is affected by ocular adverse effects, most frequently keratopathy with corneal microcyst-like epithelial changes (MECs). To assess ocular side effects, the Keratopathy and Visual Acuity (KVA) scale, based on the extent of keratopathy subjectively graded on slit-lamp examination and the change in best corrected visual acuity from baseline, was created. Advanced corneal imaging techniques have been explored to further characterize MECs and identify objective im

Ocular Toxicity of Belantamab Mafodotin, an Oncological Perspective of Management in Relapsed and Refractory Multiple Myeloma.

Belantamab mafodotin (belamaf), an antibody-drug conjugate approved for the treatment of relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM), is an anti B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) agent. DREAMM-1, a first in-human trial of belamaf, reported several ocular toxicities requiring dose adjustments, dose delays and treatment discontinuations. In DREAMM-1, 53% of patients in part-1 and 63% of patients in part-2 had ocular toxicity. Similarly, 73% of patients in DREAMM-2 had keratopathy (71% in 2.5 mg/kg versus 75% in 3.4 mg/kg) with the most common symptoms being blurred vision and dry eyes. Ocular
