The addition of lateral extra-articular tenodesis does not significantly affect the pain or confidence levels after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in adolescent athletes.

INTRODUCTION: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) in adolescents poses a unique challenge due to their high rates of reinjury and increased participation in high-risk sports. The addition of a lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) has gained popularity in augmenting ACLR in high-risk cases. However, its effect on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), specifically regarding pain and psychological readiness, remains unclear in adolescent populations. This study aimed to assess whether the addition of LET influences postoperative pain and confidence levels following ACLR. We h

Evaluation of the Relative Frequency of Preinjury Activity Recovery in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Replacement Patients: A Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury has an incidence of 0.05-0.08 per thousand. An inappropriate treatment plan could lead to articular cartilage damage and early knee osteoarthritis. Some surgical reconstruction techniques use different graft types; all of them try to restore the patient's preinjury activity levels. The current study aims to evaluate the efficacy of ACL reconstruction (ACLR) using an autologous hamstring tendon. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective one-center cohort study performed on consecutive patients with an ACL injury who underwent ACLR using

Comparison of ACL strain estimated via a data-driven model with in vitro measurements.

Computer modeling and simulation techniques have been increasingly used to investigate anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) loading during dynamic activities in an attempt to improve our understanding of injury mechanisms and development of injury prevention programs. However, the accuracy of many of these models remains unknown and thus the purpose of this study was to compare estimates of ACL strain from a previously developed three-dimensional, data-driven model with those obtained via in vitro measurements. ACL strain was measured as the knee was cycled from approximately 10° to 120° of flexio

Pre-pubescent posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction using maternal allograft.

PURPOSE: Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction is a challenge in the pre-pubescent and paediatric age group. It requires great skill in tunnel and graft placement and fixation through open physes. Another major concern is the source of graft, as the thickness of harvested hamstring graft is unpredictable in children and the bone patella tendon bone graft cannot be used due to un-ossified patella and tibial tuberosity. Quadriceps being an important agonist of PCL, we decided not to use it as a graft source. METHODS: PCL reconstruction was done in three pre-pubescent children aged 3.

Changes in muscle strength and pain in response to surgical repair of posterior abdominal wall disruption followed by rehabilitation.

BACKGROUND: Posterior abdominal wall deficiency (PAWD) is a tear in the external oblique aponeurosis or the conjoint tendon causing a posterior wall defect at the medial end of the inguinal canal. It is often known as sportsman's hernia and is believed to be caused by repetitive stress. OBJECTIVE: To assess lower limb and abdominal muscle strength of patients with PAWD before intervention compared with matched controls; to evaluate any changes following surgical repair and rehabilitation. METHODS: Sixteen subjects were assessed using a questionnaire, isokinetic testing of the lower limb stre

[The groin pain syndrome].

Groin pain is defined as tendon enthesitis of adductor longus muscle and/or abdominal muscles that may lead to degenerative arthropathy of pubic symphises in an advanced stage. Pubic region is a point where kinematic forces cross. The balance between the adductor and abdominal muscles is of great importance, as well as the elasticity of pubic symphises which enables movement of up to 2 mm and rotation of up to 3 degrees. The weakness of the abdominal muscle wall, known as the sportsman's hernia, is the most common cause of painful groin. Groin pain is the most common in soccer players (6.24% i
