The incidence of p53 (C72G) and p21 (C31A) proapoptotic polymorphisms is studied in Russian and Buryat population of Transbaicalian region and prognostic value of these polymorphisms in development of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is assessed. Significant difference in incidence of p53 and p21 was found between healthy subjects and glaucoma patients in both ethnic groups. Takayasu's arteritis (TA) is a rare vasculitis that affects the aorta and its primary branches. Heterogeneous clinical manifestations have been described in different geographical areas. We aimed to evaluate demographic, clinical, and angiographic features and the outcome in 16 TA patients who were followed in a single center in Serbia. TA was diagnosed according to the 1990 American College of Rheumatology criteria with median delay of 2 years. The majority of patients (81%) experienced one or more disease relapses and long-term remission was achieved in 94%. Five-year survival rate was 94%.

A Siberian kindred with spinocerebellar ataxia genetically linked to the SCA1 locus on chromosome 6p has been screened for the CAG triplet expansion within the coding region of the SCA1 gene. The kindred includes 1,484 individuals, 225 affected and 656 at risk, making this collection the largest spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1) pedigree known. INTRODUCTION: To date, it has been almost impossible to ascertain tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) subtype-specific information in a clinical setting from patients with tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) infection. As different subtype infections have been reported to exhibit varying clinical courses and outcomes, especially in European areas where more than one TBEV subtype prevails, this information is therefore hugely important. AIM: To study effect of combined therapy with amlodipine with ramipril on the circadian profile of arterial pressure in patients with arterial hypertension in the Far North depending on the shiftwork regime.

The state of collective immunity to diphtheria and tetanus in children of preschool age, depending on the kind of vaccine preparation used for immunization, was studied.
