A biocompatible model for evaluation of the responses of rat periapical tissue to a new zinc oxide-eugenol sealer.

We aimed to establish an experimental animal model to evaluate materials for endodontic therapy. We focused on the biocompatibility of new paste-type zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) sealer. The results of this sealer were compared with those of conventional powder/liquid ZOE and eugenol-free sealers. The molars of Wistar rats were extracted and repositioned in the original socket after application of the sealers on the root apices. Mild inflammation occurred in the periapical tissue of the replanted teeth with both ZOE sealers on day 7, whereas the eugenol-free sealer induced severe inflammation. On

Apical leakage of four endodontic sealers.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sealing properties of four root canal sealers. Forty-eight maxillary central incisors were instrumented with Profile rotary instruments. They were randomly divided into four groups (n = 12) and filled using lateral condensation with one of the four sealers: Sealapex, Pulp Canal Sealer, AH 26, and Ketac-Endo. The apical leakage was measured with a fluid filtration method and expressed as L s(-1) KPa(-1). The teeth filled with Sealapex displayed a higher apical leakage (8.42 +/- 4.2 10(-11) L s(-1) KPa(-1)) than those filled with AH 26 (2.10 +/- 1.39

Evaluation of various methods of removing gutta-percha and endodontic sealer.

Extracted human teeth were studied to evaluate three methods of removing gutta-percha and endodontic sealer from previously obturated canals. The results showed that: (1) Each method of removal left debris in the canals. (2) Significantly more debris remained in the apical third than in the middle or coronal thirds. Likewise, significantly more debris remained in the middle than in the coronal third. (3) Use of the GPX instruments enabled gutta-percha to be removed as effectively as the other methods. (4) Use of the GPX instruments required significantly less time for gutta-percha removal, com

Pcsk9 Knockout Aggravated Experimental Apical Periodontitis via LDLR.

Apical periodontitis (AP), an inflammatory lesion around the apex of tooth roots, is mostly caused by dental pulp infection. Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) plays a vital role in regulating cholesterol homeostasis by targeting low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) and participates in bacterium-induced chronic periodontitis. However, the roles of PCSK9 in AP are unknown. Here, we investigated its role in AP by using Pcsk9-/- mice. Micro-computed tomography scanning and histological staining revealed that the periapical bone loss of Pcsk9-/- mice was greater than that of

Effects of intracanal mineral trioxide aggregate and calcium hydroxide during four weeks on pH changes in simulated root surface resorption defects: an in vitro study using matched pairs of human teeth.

INTRODUCTION: Diffusion of hydroxyl ions from intracanal calcium hydroxide (CH) through dentin is used to arrest external inflammatory root resorption. However, long-term and short-term CH placement has been associated with an increased risk of root fracture. Intracanal mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) might provide an alternative to CH as a source of hydroxyl ions. This in vitro study compared the effects of intracanal MTA and CH on hydroxyl ion diffusion through dentin by measuring pH changes over time in simulated root surface resorption defects prepared in matched pairs of teeth; the null

Caprylic acid in the effective treatment of intractable medical problems of frequent urination, incontinence, chronic upper respiratory infection, root canalled tooth infection, ALS, etc., caused by asbestos & mixed infections of Candida albicans, Helicobacter pylori & cytomegalovirus with or without other microorganisms & mercury.

There are many causes of frequent urination. Whenever water or fluids are consumed, the patient has to urinate within 10 or 20 min. Often urinary bladder examinations & blood tests show no significant abnormalities, & treatment by anti-bacterial or anti-viral agents does not improve the symptoms significantly. In intractable frequent urination with difficulty holding urine, as well as other intractable medical problems such as frequent coughing, white pus in gingiva, infection of the apex of a root canalled tooth, slow-healing wounds, & ALS, the authors often found coexisting mixed infections

Ultrasonic versus hand instrumentation for orthograde root canal treatment of permanent teeth.

BACKGROUND: Endodontic treatment of root canals or root canal treatment is a frequently performed dental procedure and is carried out on teeth in which irreversible pulpitis has led to necrosis (death) of the dental pulp (nerve). Removal of the necrotic tissue remnants and cleaning and shaping of the root canal are important phases of root canal treatment. Treatment options include the use of hand and rotary instruments and methods using ultrasonic or sonic equipment. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this review were to determine the relative clinical effectiveness of ultrasonic versus hand inst
