A comparison of the efficacy of albendazole, medamine, and Vermox using an experimental model of Trichocephalus muris in DBA-2 mice showed that Vermox was most effective at all stages of the parasite development. In a 54 year old, algerian male we found a inoperable hydatid disease of the pelvis. A treatment by flubendazole 4 g/day is started on February 1982. Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a worldwide zoonotic disease. At present, the treatment options of CE are limited. The main drugs used in clinical chemotherapy of echinococcosis are albendazole and mebendazole, but they mainly exert longterm antiparasitic effects based on high doses. Therefore, there is an urgent need for effective and safe anti-CE drugs. Previous studies have identified harmine (HM) as a new anti-CE drug. OBJECTIVES: The prevalence of Strongyloides stercoralis infections is grossly underestimated because infections go mostly undetected, although they can persist for a lifetime due to the auto-infective cycle. In the Bolivian Chaco, the prevalence of soil-transmitted nematodes dropped dramatically in the past 25 years, but the mebendazole used for preventive chemotherapy has no effect on S. stercoralis. Meanwhile, the prevalence of intestinal protozoan infections remains unchanged. We compared S. stercoralis seroprevalence in rural communities of the Bolivian Chaco from 1987 to 2013.
