[A metachronous and synchronous multiple colonic cancer appearing 15 years and 3 months after resection of a synchronous multiple colonic cancer].

A case of multiple colonic cancer appearing 15 years and 3 months after the resection of a synchronous multiple colonic cancer is reported. A 65-year-old man complained of abdominal pain, abdominal fullness, and diarrhea. A barium enema revealed a so-called "apple core lesion" and a filling defect, and he was diagnosed as having a multiple colonic cancer. A subtotal colectomy was performed and he has been free of any sign of recurrence since this operation. In this case, the interval between the first and the second cancer is longer than most reported cases. Thus, as a precaution, a longer fol

The impact of flatfeet on the correlation between functional movement scores, balance, agility, and core muscle strength in young females: a cross-sectional study.

Changes in foot structure, particularly the presence of flatfeet, have been associated with various limitations in physical performance. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between flexible flatfeet and functional movement, balance, agility, and core muscle strength in young females. Ninety-six female students between the ages of 18 and 25 voluntarily participated in this study. The navicular drop test was used to evaluate the longitudinal arch of the foot. The participants were classified into flexible flatfeet (n = 25) and normal feet (n = 71) groups. Fundamental movement evalua

Posterior chain and core training improves pelvic posture, hamstrings-to-quadriceps ratio, and vertical jump performance.

BACKGROUND: Poor pelvic posture demonstrated through anterior pelvic tilt (APT) have been known to produce musculoskeletal imbalances involving weakness of the abdominal and pelvic musculature. While stretching and massage techniques have been reported to be effective in alleviating APT, it remains unclear if similar improvements can be elicited by posterior chain and core strength training. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the effect of an 8-week posterior and core strengthening program on APT, hamstrings-to-quadriceps (H:Q) strength ratio, and vertical jump performance in heal

Effect of trunk stabilization exercise on abdominal muscle thickness, balance and gait abilities of patients with hemiplegic stroke: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Trunk stability has been identified as an important prerequisite of functional movement. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of core muscle contraction training on abdominal muscle thickness, balance, and gait ability in stroke patients. METHODS: Thirty patients with stroke were randomly assigned to two experimental groups and a control group. All groups received conventional therapeutic exercise program for six weeks. The experimental groups additionally trained trunk stability exercise with abdominal hollowing or bracing maneuvers within training time. Primary outcome m

Interpreting Abdominal Surgical-Site Infection Trends Across the COVID-19 Shock: A Critical Narrative Review and the SSI Signal-Validity Framework.

Background/Objectives: Comparisons of abdominal Surgical-Site Infection (SSI) rates during COVID-19 often treat recorded incidence as a direct measure of biological risk, although the pandemic altered operative volume and case mix, prevention practices, and post-discharge detection. This review examines when reported SSI changes are interpretable. Methods: We conducted a critical narrative review, informed by SANRA and critical interpretive synthesis, of MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Europe PMC (January 2018-25 June 2026). Comparative SSI studies formed the core evidence set, supported b

Purulent infectious myositis of deep core muscles, a MRSA infection in India.

BACKGROUND: Purulent Infectious Myositis is a common bacterial infection in peripheral limb muscles, but its involvement in deep core muscles is rare. Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common organisms causing purulent infectious myositis. With an increase in antibiotic resistance in India, many cases are now being reported caused by Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). CASE PRESENTATION: A male farmer in his early 50 s presented with lower back pain, diffuse abdominal pain, significant weight loss, fatigue for one month, and high-grade fever for one week. Pain and morbidity of transrectal ultrasound guided prostate biopsy: a prospective randomized trial of 6 versus 12 cores.

PURPOSE: An increasing number of studies suggest that 6-sector transrectal ultrasound guided biopsy of the prostate provides insufficient material to detect all clinically important prostate cancers and more cores may improve detection rates. We performed a prospective, randomized study to determine the effect of increasing the number of cores from 6 to 12 on pain and other morbidity associated with the biopsy procedure. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 160 men (44 black, 28%) with a mean age plus or minus standard deviation of 65+/-8 years who had serum prostate specific antigen between 2.5

Surprising pathological and clinical manifestations of miliary tuberculosis.

We report a surprising pathological finding of miliary tuberculosis (TB) in a 49-year-old Chuukese, immunocompetent woman who was initially admitted to the hospital for a 1-month duration of chronic abdominal pain and intermittent fevers. Her clinical symptoms did not improve despite treatment with vancomycin and piperacillin-tazobactam. Based on the primary abdominal CT findings suggesting advanced ovarian cancer with omental metastatic disease, further workup with omental core biopsy was performed and demonstrated acute neutrophilic necrosis without malignant cells or granulomata. The urethral hanging theory and how it relates to Enhörning's theory and the integral theory.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The article discusses three theories of stress urinary incontinence, the urethral hanging theory, Enhörning's theory, and the integral theory. METHODS: The abdominal pressure transmission theory proposed by Enhörning is often misunderstood. It is regularly interpreted to mean that, in cases of stress urinary incontinence, the bladder neck descends outside the abdominal cavity, and treatment must involve elevating or repositioning the bladder neck. RESULTS: However, this actually contradicts the information provided in Enhörning's original paper. The urethral hang

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor as mimicking gynecological mass finding on CT scan imaging: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a term to describe the distant spread (metastasis) of primary tumors to the peritoneal cavity. CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old woman complained of dilated stomach, stomachache, and nausea. Laboratory findings showed an increase in the tumor marker, CA-125147 U/mL and also LDH 350 U/L while quantitative total β HCG and CEA were normal. Ultrasonography showed dominantly a huge solid mass with the cystic component in pelvic cavity extended to the abdominal cavity, with vascularized on Doppler ultrasound, difficult to identify uterine or adn

Reversed halo sign on CT as a presentation of lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia.

A 52 year-old African American female with a past medical history of symptomatic uterine fibroids and increasing abdominal circumference underwent abdominal computed tomography (CT) as part of her workup. Because of an abnormality in the left lower lobe, CT of the chest was subsequently performed and showed a focal region of discontinuous crescentic consolidation with central ground glass opacification in the right lower lobe, suggestive of the reversed halo sign. The patient underwent percutaneous CT-guided core biopsy of the lesion, which demonstrated lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia, a be

Intraoperative local insufflation of warmed humidified CO₂ increases open wound and core temperatures: a randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: The open surgical wound is exposed to cold dry ambient air, resulting in substantial heat loss through radiation, evaporation, and convection. At the same time, anesthesia decreases the patient's core temperature. Despite preventive measures, mild intraoperative hypothermia has been associated with postoperative morbidity. We hypothesized that local insufflation of warmed humidified carbon dioxide (CO(2)) would maintain wound and core temperature. METHODS: Eighty patients undergoing open colon surgery were randomized to standard warming measures, or to additional local wound insuf

Pilates based core stability training in ambulant individuals with multiple sclerosis: protocol for a multi-centre randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: People with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) frequently experience balance and mobility impairments, including reduced trunk stability. Pilates-based core stability training, which is aimed at improving control of the body's stabilising muscles, is popular as a form of exercise with people with MS and therapists. A replicated single case series study facilitated by the Therapists in MS Group in the United Kingdom (UK) provides preliminary evidence that this approach can improve balance and mobility in ambulant people with MS; further evidence is needed to substantiate these findings to ensu

Should chest computed tomography be routine in patients referred to abdominal computed tomography for major emergency abdominal pathology: an exploratory clinical study.

PURPOSE: The introduction of optimised care bundles in emergency major abdominal surgery has reduced mortality. Core elements are fast diagnostic work-up with abdominal computed tomography (CT) and surgery without delay. Given the diagnostic challenges in patients with abdominal pain, we aimed to investigate if the addition of a full contrast-enhanced chest CT provides additional clinically significant diagnostic information in patients referred to an emergency abdominal CT. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included patients with suspected major abdominal pathology referred to an emer

Core musculature co-contraction during suspension training exercises.

Suspension training reportedly enhances core musculature co-contraction. This study investigated whether the use of a suspension trainer increases core musculature co-activation during exercises vs. its floor counterpart. Participants were 25 healthy volunteers (16 men, 9 women; age: 27.24 ± 4.02 years). Wireless electromyography electrodes were placed bilaterally at the rectus abdominis (RA), erector spinae (ES), and abdominal obliques (OB). Test order (push-up, bridge, and prone plank) was randomized (exercise and condition) with a 3-min rest period between tests. Co-contraction ratios betwe

Relationship between the abdominal wall and chronic ankle instability.

Handball is one of the Olympic sports with the highest incidence of injury and chronic ankle instability is a common injury among handball players. Strong evidence shows the relevance of the core system in lower limb biomechanics and injury risk; however, few research has been published regarding the role of the active subsystem of the core on chronic ankle instability. The objective has been to compare abdominal wall morphology and function between young handball players with and without chronic ankle instability. Case-control study with 100 young handball players, 50 males participants and 5

The effect of an 8-week fitness regime on low back pain and core strength in high-risk professionals.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is prevalent among various populations and greatly impacts their quality of life. Professions that incorporate several working hours combined with heavy labor are the most affected. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of an 8-week core training intervention in emergency personnel. METHODS: Sixteen randomly selected male participants; police officers (N.=8) and firefighters (N.=8) (mean age: 40.75 years; mean height: 177.69 cm; mean body mass: 85.50 kg) performed various testing procedures that assessed core muscle strength and endurance and filled the Os

An unusual case of pediatric abdominal pain.

Chronic and recurrent abdominal pains are common complaints in children and adolescents, but the evaluation in the emergency department (ED) can be challenging. We present a rare yet serious case of a 17-year-old white female who presented to the ED with a 2-day history of diffuse abdominal pain, nausea, and intractable vomiting. Abdominal examination and imaging, including computed tomography (CT), were negative during an episode 6 weeks previously. This was her fifth similar episode in a 2-month period, and she had been seen at three different hospitals and admitted on each occasion. Three d

Functional Reconstruction of Abdominal Wall in Prune Belly Syndrome Using Vastus Lateralis Muscle Flaps: A Prospective Observational Study.

Prune Belly Syndrome (PBS) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by severe abdominal wall muscle deficiency, leading to significant impairment of respiratory, urinary, and gastrointestinal function. Despite numerous reconstructive attempts, no technique has achieved full functional restoration of the anterior abdominal wall. This paper introduces a novel dynamic reconstructive approach using bilateral pedicled musculo-fascial Vastus Lateralis (VL) flaps for functional abdominal wall reconstruction in PBS. Unlike traditional abdominoplasty-based procedures that mainly address cosmetic def
