Malabsorption of zinc in rats with acetic acid-induced enteritis and colitis.

Acute intestinal inflammation was established in rats by intraluminal administration of acetic acid into loops of distal ileum, proximal jejunum or ascending colon. The study included two control groups of intact (untreated) rats and sham-operated (saline-treated) rats for each intestinal segment. A third group of rats received acetic acid. Histological evaluation demonstrated that acetic acid treatment induced a mild inflammatory response. Two days after treatment, zinc absorption was measured using ligated 10-cm loops of each segment in which 65Zn was injected intraluminally. 65Zn absorption

Evaluation of acetic acid-induced gastric ulcers in dogs by endoscopic ultrasonography.

To clarify the ability of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) to diagnose gastric ulcer, we induced gastric ulcer (19 open ulcers and 11 ulcer scars) by injecting acetic acid into the stomach via an endoscope in 15 dogs. The stomachs were resected and scanned by EUS in a water bath, and the findings were compared with the histologic observations. The ulcer depth was correctly diagnosed in 29 of 30 instances (96.7%). In active, open ulcers the width and depth of the ulcer crater and the thickness of the gastric wall around the crater measured in the photographs obtained by EUS corresponded with th

Effect of zinc sulphate on acetic acid-induced gastric ulceration in rats.

The effects of zinc sulphate on gastric ulcer healing rate and mucosal mucus content of acetic acid-induced ulceration in rats have been assessed. Daily treatment with zinc sulphate progressively accelerated ulcer healing in a dose-dependent manner with a significant increase observed on day 15 after ulcer induction in rats treated with 44 and 88 mg kg-1 zinc sulphate. A significant increase in gastric mucosal adherent mucus was also observed in those animals treated with 88 mg kg-1 zinc sulphate. The results suggest that a minimum treatment period of 15 days is needed for the zinc sulphate to

The development of an acetic acid-degrading microbial strain that tolerates 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid.

Anthropogenic organic compounds are extensively utilized in agriculture as pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides. For over 30 years, the predominant herbicides utilized globally have been phenoxy acid herbicides, particularly 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). In the present study, microbial strains were isolated from contaminated agricultural soil samples to examine the impact of herbicides on growth and degradation under various parameters and environmental conditions. Five microbial strains were isolated from contaminated so

Recycling high-performance glass fibers from waste wind turbine blades via an acetic acid/nitric acid system.

The three-dimensional crosslinking network and irreversible curing characteristics of thermosetting epoxy resins pose significant challenges to the efficient recycling of waste wind turbine blades (WWTBs) under mild conditions. In this paper, a mild chemical method using an acetic acid/nitric acid system is proposed for the recycle of high-performance glass fibers from the WWTBs. Specifically, the WWTBs are first subjected to the swelling pretreatment in acetic acid at 80 ℃ to induce the volume expansion and delamination of their dense structures. Then, using nitric acid as the degradation age

Combined Docosahexaenoic Acid and Captopril Treatment Attenuates Indole Acetic Acid Induced Cardiovascular Injury in Chronic Kidney Disease.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with the accumulation of protein-bound uremic toxins (PBUTs), which cause cardiovascular dysfunction via oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis. Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), a uremic toxin generated from the gut microbiota, has been identified as a key modulator of cardiovascular injury in CKD. This study looked at the therapeutic efficacy of a 10% docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) supplemented diet paired with captopril (100 mg/kg) in CKD rats exposed to IAA (50 mg/kg) for 30 days. DHA alone enhanced IAA clearance and lowered systemic levels, while the

Loganic Acid Ameliorates Rheumatoid Arthritis via the Lactobacillus murinus-Inodole-3-Acetic Acid-AhR-IL-10 Axis.

Loganic acid (LA), a major iridoid glycoside from Gentiana macrophylla Pall., possesses anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, but its therapeutic potential in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and its interaction with the gut microbiota remain poorly defined. Here, we show that LA markedly and dose-dependently attenuates disease severity in collagen-induced arthritis mice, as evidenced by reduced clinical arthritis scores, systemic inflammatory cytokines, and synovial tissue damage. LA reshaped the gut microbiota, and fecal microbiota transplantation from LA-treated donors partially repro

Acetic Acid-Assisted Electrochemical Ipso-Nitration of Aryl Borides Using Ferric Nitrate Nonahydrate.

An efficient electrochemical ipso-nitration of aryl borides has been developed. Using Fe(NO3)3·9H2O as the nitrating reagent and AcOH as a promoter, the reaction proceeds under mild conditions to afford nitroarenes within only 2 h. This protocol eliminates the need for stoichiometric oxidants, demonstrates broad functional group tolerance and scalability, and delivers nitroarenes in good to excellent yields. Mechanistic studies, including radical trapping and cyclic voltammetry experiments, support a nitro radical-involved pathway.

Panchromatic Polymer Dot-Bacteria Biohybrid Systems for Photosynthetic CO2 Reduction into Acetic Acid.

Enabling the nonphotosynthetic bacterium Moorella thermoacetica (M. thermoacetica) to form a photosynthetic biohybrid system could transform carbon dioxide (CO2) into value-added products. However, to ensure an efficient, mechanistic electron-transfer pathway to microbial catalysts, a pivotal nanoplatform that involves multicomponent composite systems for photoexcited electron transfer from the photosensitizer to the bacteria, as well as for enhancing light-harvesting capabilities and efficient electron/hole separation, is crucial. Here, we design panchromatic ternary polymer dots (Pdots) as b

Acetic acid induces strain-specific metabolic adaptation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae during pH stress.

This study investigates the effects of acetic acid (AA) on the central carbon metabolism of S. cerevisiae ATCC 9804 and ATCC 13,007 under aerobic or static cultivation at pH 3.0. 10 mM AA caused only minor physiological changes, whereas 20 mM AA stimulated respiratory activity, increasing oxygen consumption up to 3.0-fold. In contrast, 50 mM AA markedly impaired metabolism, reducing biomass formation ∼ 110.0-fold under static cultivation, decreasing CO₂ production ∼ 250-fold, and suppressing glucose utilization and ethanol production. ATCC 9804 maintained higher respiratory capacity, acetate u

Engineering Saccharomyces cerevisiae for ethanol production from glycerol, xylose, acetic acid, and glucose.

Global bioethanol production exceeds 110 billion liters annually, yet its expansion remains constrained by the limited range of carbon sources fermentable by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Glycerol-a major byproduct of biodiesel production-has recently gained attention as both a biomass pretreatment solvent and a fermentable substrate in emerging integrated biorefineries. However, native S. cerevisiae cannot efficiently ferment glycerol, xylose, or acetic acid, and no single engineered strain has previously demonstrated co-fermentation of all these substrates with glucose. In this study, we expande

Acetic Acid: An Underestimated Metabolite in Ethanol-Induced Changes in Regulating Cardiovascular Function.

Acetic acid is a bioactive short-chain fatty acid produced in large quantities from ethanol metabolism. In this review, we describe how acetic acid/acetate generates oxidative stress, alters the function of pre-sympathetic neurons, and can potentially influence cardiovascular function in both humans and rodents after ethanol consumption. Our recent findings from in vivo and in vitro studies support the notion that administration of acetic acid/acetate generates oxidative stress and increases sympathetic outflow, leading to alterations in arterial blood pressure. Real-time investigation of how

Drosophila Gut Immune Pathway Suppresses Host Development-Promoting Effects of Acetic Acid Bacteria.

The physiology of most organisms, including Drosophila, is heavily influenced by their interactions with certain types of commensal bacteria. Acetobacter and Lactobacillus, two of the most representative Drosophila commensal bacteria, have stimulatory effects on host larval development and growth. However, how these effects are related to host immune activity remains largely unknown. Here, we show that the Drosophila development-promoting effects of commensal bacteria are suppressed by host immune activity. Mono-association of germ-free Drosophila larvae with Acetobacter pomorum stimulated lar

Indole-3-Acetic Acid Alters Intestinal Microbiota and Alleviates Ankylosing Spondylitis in Mice.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a systemic, chronic, and inflammatory autoimmune disease associated with the disorder of intestinal microbiota. Unfortunately, effective therapies for AS are lacking. Recent evidence has indicated that indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), an important microbial tryptophan metabolite, can modulate intestinal homeostasis and suppress inflammatory responses. However, reports have not examined the in vivo protective effects of IAA against AS. In this study, we investigated the protective effects and underlying mechanisms through which IAA acts against AS. We constructed a pro

Protective effect of 6-paradol in acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis in rats.

BACKGROUND: Ulcerative colitis is a gut inflammatory disorder due to altered immune response to gut microbiome, with interplay of environmental and genetic factors. TNF-α activates inflammatory response through a cascade of immune responses, augmenting pro-inflammatory mediators and proteases, activating chemotaxis, and infiltration of inflammatory cells, leading to ulceration and haemorrhage through cytotoxic reactive oxygen species. 6-Paradol, a dietary component in several plants belonging to the Zingiberaceae family, has shown anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities.
