PURPOSE: To establish if the number of pancreatic acinar cells at the pancreatic cut end is a predictor of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF).
METHODS: The number of acinar cells was assessed histologically in 121 consecutive patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) between April, 2012 and July, 2016.
RESULTS: POPF developed in 23 of the 121 patients. Univariate analysis revealed that male sex, long operating time, high volume of blood loss, soft remnant pancreas, large pancreatic duct, and the number of pancreatic acinar cells were significantly associated with POPF. Multiva

Binding of 125I-labelled Bolton-Hunter substance P (125I-BH-SP) to dispersed pancreatic acinar cells from guinea pigs was studied. P2X7 receptors (P2X7Rs) affect many epithelial cell functions including transcellular ion transport, secretion, and cell death. Here we used parotid acinar and duct cells to reveal the unique cell-specific assembly and gating of the P2X7R channels. Pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma is a rare type of pancreatic malignancy, which can be confused with pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasm. Here, we describe a woman in her 80s who presented with abdominal pain and bilateral lower extremity panniculitis. We present the case of a 59-year-old patient admitted with extreme painful erythematous subcutaneous nodules of the lower extremities in association with arthritis and peripheral eosinophilia.
