A comparison of digital subtraction angiography and computed tomography angiography for the diagnosis of penetrating cerebrovascular injury.

OBJECTIVE: Penetrating cerebrovascular injury (PCVI) is a subset of traumatic brain injury (TBI) comprising a broad spectrum of cerebrovascular pathology, including traumatic pseudoaneurysms, direct arterial injury, venous sinus stenosis or occlusion, and traumatic dural arteriovenous fistulas. These can result in immediate or delayed vascular injury and consequent neurological morbidity. Current TBI guidelines recommend cerebrovascular imaging for detection, but there is no consensus on the optimum modality. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to compare CT angiography (CTA) and di

Comparison of three-dimensional rotational angiography and digital subtraction angiography for the evaluation of the liver transplants.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study is to define the role of three-dimensional (3D) rotational angiography (RA) in the evaluation of transplant hepatic arteries and compare it with digital subtraction angiography (DSA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The patency of the arteries and anastomoses, confidence in the ability to make a therapeutic decision, and the value of the study for the definition of the optimal projection for an intervention were graded on a scale from 0 to 10. RESULTS: Forty-three vascular segments in five patients were available for analysis. Complete concordance between 3D RA an

CT angiography, MR angiography and rotational digital subtraction angiography for volumetric assessment of intracranial aneurysms. An experimental study.

The purpose of our experimental study was to assess the accuracy and precision of CT angiography (CTA), MR angiography (MRA) and rotational digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for measuring the volume of an in vitro aneurysm model. A rigid model of the anterior cerebral circulation harbouring an anterior communicating aneurysm was connected to a pulsatile circuit. It was studied using unenhanced 3D time-of-flight MRA, contrast-enhanced CTA and rotational DSA angiography. The source images were then postprocessed on dedicated workstations to calculate the volume of the aneurysm. CTA was more

Pressurized Contrast-Related Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome After Cerebral Digital Subtraction Angiography.

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is a multifactorial neurological disorder characterized by clinical and neuroimaging findings. The "vasogenic theory" suggests that, in this condition, disrupted cerebrovascular autoregulation leads to blood-brain barrier failure and vasogenic edema. Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is commonly associated with hypertension, chemotherapy, and transplantation, but neurosurgical patients, including those undergoing digital subtraction angiography, are also at elevated risk. A patient with a history of traumatic brain injury underwent survei

Intravenous 3-Dimensional Digital Subtraction Angiography During Surgical Treatment of Intracranial Aneurysm.

BACKGROUND: Although intraarterial 3-dimensional digital subtraction angiography (ia-3DDSA) using an angiographic C-arm system is still the gold standard for postoperative confirmation of surgical clipping of intracranial aneurysms, ia-3DDSA requires catheterization and intraarterial injection of contrast medium, which adds risks to the surgical procedure and takes time. We propose a less invasive acquisition of 3D digital subtraction angiography with intravenous injection (iv-3DDSA) in the hybrid operating room to confirm the results of surgical clipping immediately after surgery. Analysis of Radiation Effects in Digital Subtraction Angiography of Intracranial Artery Stenosis.

BACKGROUND: Intracranial artery stenosis (IAS) is the most common cause for acute cerebral accidents. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is the gold standard to detect IAS and usually brings excess radiation exposure to examinees and examiners. The artery pathology might influence the interventional procedure, causing prolonged radiation effects. However, no studies on the association between IAS pathology and operational parameters are available. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 93 patients with first-ever stroke/transient ischemic attack, who received DSA examination wi

[Donor site digital subtraction angiography before mandible reconstruction with free fibula transplantation].

The use of fibula free flap has become established as a reliable and popular method for reconstruction of segmental mandibular defects. Vascular anomalies of the donor site may compromise the blood supply of the flap, may jeopardize perfusion of the foot or cause technical difficulties during the procedure. Clinical examination of the circulation in the lower extremities may have relatively normal results. Preoperative vascular imaging detects aberrant cases and thus may contraindicate the use of fibula free flap or may alter the surgical plan. Authors performed 64 preoperative lower-limb digi

CO2 digital subtraction angiography for renal artery angioplasty in high-risk patients.

OBJECTIVE: The efficacy of CO2 digital subtraction angiography for performing renal artery angioplasty in high-risk patients was evaluated. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: From January 1997 to July 1998, 21 high-risk patients underwent 29 renal artery angioplasties using carbon dioxide as the principal contrast agent. Six patients had a known allergy to iodinated contrast material and 15 had elevated levels of creatinine. Iodinated contrast material was used only if necessary. All periprocedural allergic reactions were recorded. Before and 24 hr after the procedure, serum creatinine levels were obtaine

The importance of preoperative digital subtraction angiography in microsurgically reanastomosed tissue transfer.

The importance of preoperative digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in revascularized tissue transfer in the maxillofacial area is demonstrated on the basis of 53 flaps: In 7 cases DSA revealed results which influenced the therapeutic procedure. Compared to conventional methods of vascular diagnosis, DSA has considerable advantages.

[Arterial and venous digital subtraction angiography. A current study technic for otorhinolaryngology].

Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is a rather new radiographic technique for imaging different vascular alterations, particularly in the head and neck area, and can replace angiography in most cases. Nevertheless, routine application of DSA - intravenously or intraarterially - seems to present a problem to many clinicists. In the present paper, therefore, we try to introduce these important techniques by means of several examples from patients who have undergone these procedures to demonstrate the actual indications of DSA for oto-rhino-laryngological diseases.

Digital subtraction angiography for preoperative diagnosis of carotid body tumor. Case report.

A case of carotid body tumor preoperatively diagnosed by digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is reported. For the first time to our knowledge, it demonstrates the effectiveness of DSA in the preoperative diagnosis of carotid body tumor. The advantages of this procedure vs. direct angiography are mainly its lower invasiveness and the absence of side- effects secondary to direct intra-arterial administration of contrast dye under general anesthesia.

DIgital intravenous subtraction angiography for investigating renovascular hypertension: comparison with hypertensive urography.

We used digital intravenous subtraction angiography (DSA) to evaluate 105 patients with suspected renovascular hypertension. Unilateral renal artery stenoses were identified in 14 patients, two of whom had previously had contralateral nephrectomy. In addition, one of three renal transplant recipients was found to have stenosis of the nutrient artery. Bilateral renal artery stenosis was demonstrated by DSA in three patients. Of the 88 patients who had concomitant minute sequence (hypertensive) urography (HIVP) delayed excretion suggested a renal artery lesion in only 8 patients. In the group of

Optimization of image shoot timing for cerebral veins 3D-digital subtraction angiography by interventional angiography systems.

3D-digital subtraction angiography (3D-DSA) is essential for understanding the anatomical structure of cerebral veins, crucial in brain tumor surgery. 3D-DSA produces three-dimensional images of veins by adjusting the X-ray delay time after contrast agent injection, but the delineation of veins varies with the delay in X-ray timing. Our study aimed to refine the delay time using time-enhancement curve (TEC) analysis from 2D-DSA conducted before 3D-DSA imaging. We retrospectively reviewed 26 meningioma patients who underwent cerebral angiography from March 2020 to August 2021. Using 2D-DSA, we

Estimation of High Framerate Digital Subtraction Angiography Sequences at Low Radiation Dose.

Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) provides high resolution image sequences of blood flow through arteries and veins and is considered the gold standard for visualizing cerebrovascular anatomy for neurovascular interventions. However, acquisition frame rates are typically limited to 1-3 fps to reduce radiation exposure, and thus DSA sequences often suffer from stroboscopic effects. We present the first approach that permits generating high frame rate DSA sequences from low frame rate acquisitions eliminating these artifacts without increasing the patient's exposure to radiation. Our approac

Titanium plate artefact mimicking popliteal artery dissection on digital subtraction CT angiography.

Titanium plates used for the internal fixation of long bone fractures cause significant artefact on CT scans but have not been reported to affect digital subtraction CT angiography. We present a patient with clinical suspicion of popliteal artery injury following a high tibial osteotomy. The osteotomy was stabilised with a titanium locking plate. During the digital subtraction process used to produce reconstruction CT angiography, removal of artefact caused by the titanium plate produced CT images mimicking the appearance of a popliteal artery dissection. The imaging inaccuracy was realised pr
