Two Cases of Angioleiomyoma of the Auricle.

Angioleiomyoma is a benign tumor originating from the muscularis layer of blood vessel walls. It usually occurs in extremities, and the auricle is not a frequent site for the development of this tumor. We present two cases of auricular angioleiomyoma diagnosed after pathological examination along with a review of literature.

Surgical removal of an intravenous leiomyoma with intracardiac extension and pulmonary benign metastases.

Intravenous leiomyomatosis (IVL) with right intracardiac extension or pulmonary benign metastases (PBM) is rare. We report a case of 51 year-old woman, who underwent successful extensive double stage surgical removal of the intracardiac IVL extension associated with a pulmonary limited resection where the cystic bullae and PBM were found, and a month later gynaecological operation. To our knowledge this is the first reported case of such a combination.

Angioleiomyoma of the nasal cavity.

Angioleiomyoma is a rare benign tumor in the nasal cavity. There are very few reports in literature. A 34 year old male presented with left sided nasal obstruction and epistaxis. Clinical evaluation revealed a lesion replacing the anterior two-third of the Left inferior turbinate. An endoscopic excision under hypotensive anesthesia was performed. Histopathology confirmed a diagnosis of Angioleiomyoma. The cause and site of origin of angioleiomyomas when they arise from the inferior turbinate remains unclear. We review the literature available on nasal angioleiomyoma. When limited to the nasal

[Acute abdomen in a patient with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome].

BACKGROUND: Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome is a malformation of female genital tract (incidence 1 in 4000 female newborn children). It appears as a result of a disorder in the development of Millerian cannals. Etiology is unknown. Syndrome MRKH is the most frequent cause of primary amenorrhoea (90%). Patients with MRKH have a normal female phenotype, with normal pubic hairness and thelarche, and female karyotype (46XX) followed by primary amenorrhoea. Hormonal status corresponds to healthy women, where the appearance of ovarian tumors and tumors on rudiment parts of uterus is p

Mucosal angioleiomyoma: mucoscopic findings adding value to diagnosis.

This article presents a female patient in her 40s who presented with a tender violaceous bump on her upper right lip. Our primary differential diagnosis was an arteriovenous malformation. Punch biopsy revealed the lesion to be an angioleiomyoma (ALM). The punch biopsy was sufficient for the complete removal of the lesion, and the lesion did not recur to date. There were no complications. We discuss the dermatoscopic description of an ALM and its clinical picture.

Orbital angioleiomyoma with GJA4 mutation mimicking cavernous venous malformation: a case report and comprehensive review.

Orbital angioleiomyomas are rare benign tumors that can mimic orbital cavernous venous malformations (OCVM) due to overlapping radiological and histopathological features. We present the case of a 42-year-old woman with an apical orbital angioleiomyoma incidentally discovered during evaluation for migraines. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well-defined, gadolinium-enhancing intraconal mass, initially suggestive of OCVM. Surgical excision was performed via an endonasal endoscopic approach, achieving complete removal without recurrence. Histopathological analysis and molecular testing conf

Nasal angioleiomyoma in 2 dogs.

This case report describes 2 dogs, an Appenzeller Mountain dog and an Irish Wolfhound, with angioleiomyoma within the nasal cavity. Endoscopic surgical resection resulted in cure in both dogs. Macroscopically and on diagnostic imaging, tumor masses may appear malignant because of local turbinate destruction. This highlights the importance of histological examination before any recommendations are made to owners because tumors of the nasal cavity may be benign and surgery curative.

Angioleiomyoma of the Parotid Gland Fed by the Superficial Temporal Artery.

Angioleiomyoma in the head and neck area is rarely observed. This report introduces 2 cases of angioleiomyoma discovered in the parotid gland, particularly with the superficial temporal artery (STA) as the feeding vessel. Each patient was evaluated preoperatively by clinical manifestation and computed tomography scan, but the difficulty was encountered due to nonspecific radiologic features of angioleiomyoa. Surgical intervention was performed for precise diagnosis and treatment. The tumors were fed from the STA, with the diagnosis of venous type parotid angioleiomyoma. To our knowledge, there

Transnasal endoscopic resection of vascular leiomyomas of the nasal septum.

OBJECTIVE: Our experience with endoscopic surgery for vascular leiomyomas of the nasal septum was reviewed. PATIENTS AND METHODS: All patients with vascular leiomyomas of the nasal septum who were treated with endoscopic surgery from May 1995 to June 2007 were reviewed retrospectively. RESULTS: Twelve patients had vascular leiomyomas of the nasal septum removed successfully; there were no recurrences or endocrine complications during the 15-62-month follow-up postoperatively. CONCLUSION: The endoscope technique offers simple, rapid access to the nasal septum, and excellent visualization; it

Angioleiomyoma of the cheek: a case report.

Angioleiomyoma is a form of subcutaneous vascular leiomyoma that usually occurs in the extremities. Leiomyoma of the oral cavity represents only 0.4% of soft tissue neoplasms and 0.06% of leiomyomas. Isolated cases of angioleiomyoma have been reported in the knee and lower thigh, gastrointestinal tract, genital and renal tract, and brain. Histopathologic examination by biopsy is necessary to establish a diagnosis, and immunohistochemical staining, along with conventional hematoxylin-eosin staining, is important. The differential diagnosis includes hemangioma and angiosarcoma. At present, surgi

Neurosurgical management of a painful subcutaneous nodule of the knee: angioleiomyoma.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Angioleiomyoma (ALM) is a rare, benign smooth muscle tumor that can occur anywhere in the body. Diagnosis is usually delayed due to the unfamiliar location and presentation of the lesion. This tumor is not frequently discussed in neurosurgical publications as part of the differential diagnosis of painful subcutaneous lesions. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a neurosurgical presentation of ALM within an extremity. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 42-year-old woman presented with more than 2 years of severe right knee pain. The patient had undergone several trea

Uterine angioleiomyoma: a rare variant of uterine leiomyoma.

Uterine angioleiomyoma is an extremely rare and unique variant of leiomyoma. It usually occurs in middle-aged women, who commonly present with menorrhagia, abdominal pain, or abdominal mass. The lesions are either single or multiple and manifest as submucosal, intramural, or subserosal whorled nodules. Microscopy of the individual nodule shows interlacing fascicles of spindle cells swirling around thick-walled blood vessels. Angioleiomyoma usually lacks mitotic figures, pleomorphism, or necrosis, although cases with marked nuclear atypia and multinucleated giant cells have been reported. The t

Intra-articular angioleiomyoma of the knee: a case report.

We report a rare case of angioleiomyoma that occurred in the intra-articular portion of the knee joint. A 43-year-old female was referred to us with a 3-year history of recurrent pain and a loss of full extension of the right knee. Physical examinations revealed swelling and restriction of active full extension. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an intra-articular tumor. Surgical excision was performed, and the histology was characteristic of an angioleiomyoma. The patient became asymptomatic after the operation. At 2-year follow-up after the operation, no recurrence has developed.

Multiple uterine angioleiomyomas in a woman presenting with severe menorrhagia.

BACKGROUND: Angioleiomyoma is a rare benign neoplasm that originates from smooth muscle cells and contains thick-walled vessels. There were only five cases of uterine angioleiomyoma reported in the available English literatures. We present here the unique computed tomography finding in a patient with multiple uterine angioleiomyomas causing severe menorrhagia. CASE: A 50-year-old, nulligravid woman consulted us with the complaint of menorrhagia for 3 years and progressively palpable lower abdominal mass for a half year. Laboratory findings were all within normal limits except lower hemoglobin

Angiomyofibroblastoma of the vulva: case report.

Angiomyxomas are a group of relatively rare mesenchymal myxoid tumors. Three types of angiomyxomas have been identified: superficial angiomyxoma, aggressive angiomyxoma and angiomyofibroblastoma. These tumors have a predilection for occurring in the perineum of middle-aged females and are often clinically diagnosed as Bartholin's cyst. A case of a 42-year-old female with a perineal angiomyofibroblastoma mimicking a Bartholin's cyst is presented. The pathological and clinical characteristics of this tumor are discussed.

Angioleiomyoma of the Sinonasal Tract: Analysis of 16 Cases and Review of the Literature.

Angioleiomyoma (ALM; synonyms: angiomyoma, vascular leiomyoma) is an uncommon benign tumor of skin and subcutaneous tissue. Most arise in the extremities (90 %). Head and neck ALMs are uncommon (~10 % of all ALMs) and those arising beneath the sinonasal tract mucosa are very rare (<1 %) with 38 cases reported so far. We herein analyzed 16 cases identified from our routine and consultation files. Patients included seven females and nine males aged 25-82 years (mean 58; median 62). Symptoms were intermittent nasal obstruction, sinusitis, recurrent epistaxis, and a slow-growing mass. Fifteen lesi

Benign sinonasal masses: a clinicopathological and radiological profile.

BACKGROUND: Benign nasal and paranasal sinus masses are commonly encountered in clinical practice. Though benign, certain nasal polyps, fungal sinusitis, hemangiomas and fibro-osseous tumors can present with locally destructive features and deformities, mimicking malignancies at once. OBJECTIVE: This study was carried out to recognize the great variety of benign nasal lesions and their frequency in our region. METHODS: A retrospective chart analysis of cases presenting as mass in nose and paranasal sinus that underwent surgery over three years duration at our institute was done. A provisiona
