Global distribution of antimicrobial resistance genes in Escherichia coli isolated from wild animals using genomes available in public databases.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a pressing worldwide health challenge fueled by the improper and/or excessive use of antimicrobials in humans and animals. Wild animals can acquire AMR from waste released into the environment, being a good bioindicator of AMR pollution in that compartment. This study aimed to estimate the global distribution of antimicrobial-resistant genes (ARGs) in Escherichia coli (E. coli) isolated from wild animals (birds and mammals) and to assess their role as sentinels for the study of AMR in the environment. A total of 4436 E. coli genomes were retrieved from three p

Metabolic fate of the new anti-ulcer drug enprostil in animals. 1st communication: absorption, distribution and excretion in the mouse, rat and rabbit.

Absorption, distribution and excretion of [3H]-enprostil ((+-)-11a,15a-dihydroxy-9-oxo-16-phenoxy-17,18,19,20-tetranorpr osta -4,5,13(t)-trienoic acid methyl ester, TA-84135), a new anti-ulcer prostaglandin, were studied in mice, rats and rabbits. Radioactivity associated with enprostil was rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract with Tmax values of 15 or 30 min. Absorption was also efficient inasmuch as approximately 80% of an oral dose was recovered in bile and urine in 24 h in bile duct-cannulated rats. Experiments in pylorus-ligated, bile duct-cannulated rats demonstrated that enp

Gold Mesoporous Silica-Coated Nanoparticles for Quantifying and Qualifying Mesenchymal Stem Cell Distribution; a Proof-of-Concept Study in Large Animals.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have demonstrated promising therapeutic potential across a wide range of diseases including (multi) organ injury in neonates. Despite the reported preclinical successes of MSC therapy, a major challenge in their clinical translation is a limited understanding of their biodistribution after administration. This knowledge gap needs to be addressed to allow clinical implementation. Accordingly, in this study, we propose that silica-coated gold nanoparticles (AuMS) are a promising tool for in vivo MSC tracing. This study explores the use of AuMS for both qualitative a

An Updated Review on the Spatial Distribution of Borrelia burgdorferi Sensu Lato Across Ticks, Animals and Humans in Northeastern China and Adjacent Regions.

BACKGROUND: Lyme disease is a tick-borne zoonotic disease caused by Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato and is prevalent in northeastern Asia, particularly in the forested area of Northeastern China. However, a lack of systematic data on the spatial distribution of B. burgdorferi in this region hinders the prediction of its transmission risk across the landscape. METHODS: To provide an updated overview and establish a comprehensive spatial distribution database, we conducted a systematic review of literature published between 2000 and 2022. We collected and compiled relevant data on B. burgdorfer

Enhancement of C8-C16 hydrocarbons distribution in bio-oil from the catalytic pyrolysis of animal manures using physically or chemically activated biochar catalysts.

This study investigates the potential of animal manure to produce C8-C16 hydrocarbons. To this end, catalytic pyrolysis of cow manure (COM), chicken manure (CHM), and swine manure (SWM) was conducted using a biochar catalyst. Based on GC/MS semi-quantitative estimates, catalytic pyrolysis of SWM showed a higher relative proportion of C8-C16 hydrocarbons than CHM and COM, attributed to its lower nitrogen content. The use of ZnCl2-treated biochar (AC-Z) resulted in 1.41-, 1.24-, 1.18-, and 1.21-fold increases in the relative proportion of C8-C16 hydrocarbons in the bio-oil compared with those ob

Cellular distribution of C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 like immunoreactivities in frontal cortex and corpus callosum of normal and lipopolysaccharide treated animal.

BACKGROUND: C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2) is reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of various neurological and/or psychiatric diseases. Tissue or cellular expression of CCL2, in normal or pathological condition, may play an essential role in recruiting monocytes or macrophages into targeted organs, and be involved in a certain pathogenic mechanism. However, few studies focused on tissue and cellular distribution of the CCL2 peptide in brain grey and white matters (GM, WM), and the changes of the GM and WM cellular CCL2 level in septic or endotoxic encephalopathy was not explored. Revealing the distribution characteristics of antibiotic resistance genes and bacterial communities in animal-aerosol-human in a chicken farm: From One-Health perspective.

Antibiotics in breeding industry can enter the environment through multiple pathways, thus accelerating the emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), among which aerosol transmission is easily achieved and often overlooked. To elucidate the role of aerosols in this situation, the present study investigated the distribution characteristics of 107 ARG subtypes (targeting to eight different ARG types) and nine mobile genetic elements (MGEs) and bacterial community in animal (chicken cloaca), environment (aerosols) and human (nasopharynx) of a chicken farm (n = 42) in Henan Provi

Subgrouping of ESBL-producing Escherichia coli from animal and human sources: an approach to quantify the distribution of ESBL types between different reservoirs.

Escherichia (E.) coli producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) are an increasing problem for public health. The success of ESBLs may be due to spread of ESBL-producing bacterial clones, transfer of ESBL gene-carrying plasmids or exchange of ESBL encoding genes on mobile elements. This makes it difficult to identify transmission routes and sources for ESBL-producing bacteria. The objectives of this study were to compare the distribution of genotypic and phenotypic properties of E. coli isolates from different animal and human sources collected in studies in the scope of the national

Utilization of glutathione S-transferase Mu 1- and Theta 1-null mice as animal models for absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity studies.

INTRODUCTION: Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are Phase II drug-metabolizing enzymes that catalyze the conjugation of electrophilic compounds to glutathione. This reaction generally detoxifies reactive metabolites of xenobiotics, such as drugs and environmental chemicals, and therefore, GSTs are considered toxicologically important enzymes. Human GST genes display genetic polymorphisms, and the impact of null genotypes of GST Mu 1 (GSTM1) and GST Theta 1 (GSTT1) have been extensively studied. Recently, corresponding Gstm1- and Gstt1-null mice have been developed. AREAS COVERED: This review

Distribution and role of d-glutamate, a novel d-amino acid identified in animals, in the reproductive tissues of male kuruma prawn Marsupenaeus japonicus.

Some aquatic invertebrates contain free d-alanine. We previously showed copious amounts of free d-glutamate, a novel d-amino acid, in the tissue of the male reproductive organs of Marsupenaeus japonicus. Herein, we clarified the distribution and potential role of d-glutamate and d-alanine in male reproductive tissues, namely the testis, vas deferens and seminal receptacle at different growth stages of M. japonicus. The percentage of d-glutamate to total glutamate was over 50% in these tissues. In particular, the content of d-glutamate was the most abundant in the vas deferens, the ratio of d-g

A review on trombiculiasis: An underreported parasitosis that affects humans and animals, including world distribution, clinical findings, associated pathogens, prophylaxis and identification methods.

Chigger mites comprise three families: Trombiculidae, Leeuwenhoekiidae and Walchiidae, with over 3,000 species worldwide. Their life cycle includes six stages, and the larvae are parasites, while the other stages are free-living predators. Once attached to a host, the larvae spend several days feeding on the host's epithelial tissue, forming the stylostome. An inflammatory reaction can be formed during larval feeding, known as trombiculiasis or trombiculosis. In this study, we provide a literature review using 123 scientific articles on the cases of trombiculiasis in animals and humans reporte
