Six-Year Follow-Up of Immature Tooth Revascularization With Enamel Matrix Proteins.

Novel endodontic revascularization techniques have been considered as alternative options for treatment of immature teeth affected by apical periodontitis. The continuous development of the root canal has been recognized as a major advantage of these techniques over traditional apexification approaches. This article reports a case in which endodontic revascularization using extracellular matrix proteins (EMPs) as a scaffold was utilized to treat an immature maxillary lateral incisor with history of trauma and chronic apical periodontitis. The root canal was accessed and sequentially irrigated

Calcium hydroxide induced apical barrier in fractured nonvital immature permanent incisors.

Management of trauma to an immature permanent incisor is a challenge, especially when the pulp is necrotic. The aim of this study is to discuss the management of fractured maxillary right and left central incisors with immature root apex. Radiographic evaluation revealed that the tooth 11 had convergent apical walls, whereas tooth 21 had parallel apical walls; both the incisors were treated with pure calcium hydroxide paste to induce apical development. Follow-up clinical and radiographic examinations confirmed apical barrier at 3 months. Radiograph of tooth 11 with convergent roots showed con

Regenerative Endodontic Procedure (REP) of a Previously Treated, Infected, Immature Permanent Incisor.

The management of immature permanent teeth with pulpal necrosis and prior endodontic failure remains clinically challenging due to incomplete root development, persistent infection, and reduced structural integrity. Regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs) offer a biologically driven alternative to apexification; however, their use in retreatment scenarios is not well documented. This report describes the successful treatment of a previously treated immature maxillary central incisor in a 7-year-old patient presenting with a chronic apical abscess and a longstanding sinus tract. Prior endodon

Anterior Maxillary Ameloblastic Fibroma in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report.

Ameloblastic fibroma (AF) is a rare benign mixed odontogenic tumor, more frequently observed in children and adolescents. It typically develops in the posterior region of the mandible. Radiographically, it appears as a well-defined radiolucent lesion, requiring histological confirmation to differentiate it from other odontogenic tumors. We report the case of an eight-year-old male patient in good general health who presented following an anterior trauma. The extraoral examination was normal, while the intraoral examination revealed the avulsion of tooth 11, a complicated enamel-dentin fracture

Repair and regeneration in endodontics.

The ideal objective of treatment of established diseases, including irreversible pulpitis and apical periodontitis, is to achieve wound healing. Wound healing can result in repair or regeneration. The ultimate goal of wound healing is to restore the original architecture and biological function of the injured tissue or organ. Although humans are equipped with powerful innate and adaptive immune defence mechanisms, many intrinsic and extrinsic factors can affect wound healing. Complete regeneration following injury in humans can occur only in the pre-natal foetus within 24 weeks of gestation. P

Clinical Application of Inflammatory Vital Pulp Therapy in Immature Permanent Teeth: A Retrospective Case Series.

BACKGROUND: Management of immature permanent teeth with pulpal or periapical pathology remains challenging due to incomplete root development and open apices. Conventional treatments, such as calcium hydroxide apexification, require multiple appointments over extended periods and may weaken dentinal walls, whereas apical barrier techniques using mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) provide apical closure but do not promote continued root development. Inflammatory vital pulp therapy (IVPT) has emerged as a biologically based approach that preserves stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAPs) to prom

Determination of working length for teeth with wide or immature apices: a review.

Practitioners face several challenges during the root canal treatment of teeth with wide or immature apices, one of which is working length determination. There is relatively little data regarding the value of radiography and electronic apex locator (EAL) use when root formation is incomplete, and supplementary measurement techniques may be helpful. This review considers length determination for canals with wide or completely open apices in permanent and primary teeth. The Ovid Medline, Web of Science and Scopus databases were searched individually and in combinations to August 2012 using the

Regenerative Endodontic Procedure on an Immature Necrotic Molar: A Case Report with a 5-Year Review.

BACKGROUND The regenerative endodontic procedure (REP) for managing necrotic immature permanent teeth has the advantage of promoting root growth over the traditionally used apexification techniques. However, there is limited evidence on the long-term outcome of standardized REPs performed on immature molars. This case report presents the 5-year clinical and radiographic outcomes of REP performed on an immature mandibular first molar. CASE REPORT A healthy 7-year-old girl with a carious right mandibular first molar was referred to the endodontic clinic for evaluation and treatment. Clinical exa

Local applications of tetracyclines in endodontics and dental trauma: a review.

Local application of antibiotics within the root canal system may be a more effective mode for delivering the drug. Tetracyclines have been used to remove the smear layer from instrumented root canal walls, for irrigation of retrograde cavities during periapical surgical procedures, and as an intracanal medicament. Substantivity of tetracyclines has been shown for up to at least 12 weeks. BioPure MTAD is effective in removing the smear layer. However, the antimicrobial efficacy against E faecalis of 1.3% NAOCl/MTAD compared with that of the combined alternate use of 5.25% NAOCl and 15% EDTA is

Mineral trioxide aggregate promotes the odonto/osteogenic differentiation and dentinogenesis of stem cells from apical papilla via nuclear factor kappa B signaling pathway.

INTRODUCTION: Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has been widely used in clinical apexification and apexogenesis. However, the effects of MTA on the stem cells from apical papilla (SCAPs) and the precise mechanism of apexogenesis have not been elucidated in detail. METHODS: Multiple colony-derived stem cells were isolated from the apical papillae, and the effects of MTA on the proliferation and differentiation of SCAPs were investigated both in vitro and in vivo. Activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB) pathway in MTA-treated SCAPs was analyzed by immunofluorescence assay and Western blot.

Management of Different Types of Root Resorption Affecting Traumatised Permanent Maxillary Incisors-A Case Report.

Managing defects caused by pathological root resorption in permanent teeth can be challenging. If not diagnosed and treated efficiently, progressive root resorption can result in the loss of a tooth. This paper reports the consequences and treatment of poorly managed dental trauma 3 years ago affecting maxillary central and lateral incisors of an 11-year-old male child. Intraoral periapical radiographs revealed resorption defects involving the cervical, middle and apical thirds of Tooth Numbers 12, 11, 21 and 22 (FDI numbering system). A blunderbuss canal with a wide open apex was also noted i
