Association between the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and both the severity and mortality of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease.

BACKGROUND: The association between the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and the severity and prognosis of hepatic steatosis in metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is unclear. This study aims to elucidate the association between the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and the severity of hepatic steatosis in this population, as well as its connections to all-cause and cause-specific mortality. METHODS: Data for this research were sourced from Beijing, China, and incorporated from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) and the National Death Index (NDI) in the United Stat

Association of tubular injury with lipid metabolism: A Mendelian randomization study.

Patients with chronic kidney disease frequently exhibit abnormalities in their lipid metabolism. Confounding factors in observational studies often obscure the causal relationship between these 2 diseases. This study investigated the causal relationships between genetically predicted levels of 6 key lipid parameters (total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), HDL-C, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), and apolipoprotein B (ApoB)) and circulating kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1) levels, using a comprehensive bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysi

Value of C-reactive protein as a risk factor for acute coronary syndrome: a comparison with apolipoprotein concentrations and lipid profile.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether assessment of C-reactive protein (CRP) and apolipoproteins, besides the traditional lipid profile, enhances the assessment process for the risk of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). METHODS: The study group consisted of 220 consecutive patients admitted to hospital within the first 6 hours from the onset of chest pain. Patients were diagnosed with unstable angina (n = 96), non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI; n = 57), or ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI; n = 67). ACS patients were compared with 116 healthy volunteers in a case-control study. T

Apo(a) and ApoB Interact Noncovalently Within Hepatocytes: Implications for Regulation of Lp(a) Levels by Modulation of ApoB Secretion.

BACKGROUND: Elevated plasma Lp(a) (lipoprotein(a)) levels are associated with increased risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and aortic valve stenosis. However, the cell biology of Lp(a) biosynthesis remains poorly understood, with the locations of the noncovalent and covalent steps of Lp(a) assembly unclear and the nature of the apoB-containing particle destined for Lp(a) unknown. We, therefore, asked if apo(a) and apoB interact noncovalently within hepatocytes and if this impacts Lp(a) biosynthesis. METHODS: Using human hepatocellular carcinoma cells expressing 17K (17 kringle) a

Diagnostic significance of clinical scoring system and serum lipid profiles as recovery indicators in ketotic dairy cattle using hormonal-steroids-carbohydrates therapeutic protocol.

BACKGROUND: Ketosis is one of the most important metabolic disorders occurring in dairy cows after calving, which is caused by a negative energy balance during the peripartum period or around parturition. AIM: The current study focused on the diagnostic significance of the clinical scoring system, with serum lipid profiles, mainly lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) and apolipoprotein B-100 (ApoB-100), as recovery indicators in ketotic dairy cattle using the hormonal-steroids-carbohydrate therapeutic protocol. The study also discussed the correlation coefficient between serum apo-B100

Autoantibodies Against Methylglyoxal-Modified Apolipoprotein B100 and ApoB100 Peptide Are Associated With Less Coronary Artery Atherosclerosis and Retinopathy in Long-Term Type 1 Diabetes.

OBJECTIVE: Methylglyoxal (MGO), a reactive aldehyde forming advanced glycation end products (AGEs), is increased in diabetes and recognized by the immune system, resulting in anti-AGE-specific autoantibodies. The association of these immune responses with macro- and microvascular complications in type 1 diabetes remains unclarified. We investigated associations between MGO-modified apolipoprotein B100 (apoB100) and apoB100 peptide 5 (MGO-p5) autoantibodies and coronary atherosclerosis and retinopathy in type 1 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: IgM and IgG against MGO-apoB100 and MGO-p5 w

Remnant cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and apoB absolute mass changes explain results of the PROMINENT trial.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The PROMINENT trial, a cardiovascular outcome trial of the triglyceride- and remnant cholesterol-lowering agent pemafibrate, has shown neutral results despite reduction in plasma triglycerides and remnant cholesterol. We tested the hypothesis that absolute mass changes in remnant cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and apolipoprotein B explain the results of the PROMINENT trial. METHODS: Among 108,431 individuals from the Copenhagen General Population Study (CGPS), those who met the key inclusion criteria of the PROMINENT trial were analyzed to mimic the trial design. Excess apolipoprotein B predicts long-term survival in statin-treated CAD irrespective of achieved LDL-C levels: a pooled cohort analysis.

BACKGROUND: Residual cardiovascular risk persists in statin-treated patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), even when low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) targets are met. Excess apolipoprotein B (apoB), defined as measured apoB minus LDL-C-predicted apoB, may capture atherogenic particle burden beyond LDL-C, but its prognostic value for long-term mortality in secondary prevention remains uncertain. METHODS: We conducted a pooled analysis of two nationwide Chinese cohorts (CIN-II and RED-CARPET) comprising 68,616 statin-treated CAD patients. Excess apoB was calculated using an inte

Increased Autoreactive CD8+ T Cells to Apolipoprotein B Epitopes in Patients With Severe Coronary Artery Disease.

BACKGROUND: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease with a strong autoimmune component, marked by the detection of autoreactive T cells and autoantibodies. Recent single-cell RNA sequencing studies have shown that atherosclerotic plaques contain clonally expanded CD8+ T cells. One of the known atherosclerosis autoantigens is APOB (apolipoprotein B). However, autoreactive CD8+ T cells to APOB in humans have not been described. METHODS: We studied CD8+ T-cell reactivity to human leukocyte antigen-A*02:01-restricted APOB epitopes, starting with in silico epitope prediction. We used per

Effects of growth hormone treatment on very-low density lipoprotein apolipoprotein B100 turnover in adult hypopituitarism.

Adult hypopituitarism is associated with hyperlipidemia, mainly due to an increase of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels. Recent studies have shown that such patients exhibit increased hepatic secretion of VLDL apolipoprotein B100 (VLDL apo B100). To examine the effects of growth hormone (GH) replacement on VLDL apo B100 turnover, 13 GH-deficient hypopituitary patients (8 women and 5 men; aged 47 +/- 3 years, mean +/- SEM; body mass index [BMI], 30 +/- 2 kg/m2) entered a double-blind placebo-controlled study for 6 months (GH 0.125 IU/kg/wk for 4 weeks,

Metabolism of apolipoprotein B in large triglyceride-rich very low density lipoproteins of normal and hypertriglyceridemic subjects.

The metabolic fate of very low density lipoprotein can be examined by following the transit of its apolipoprotein B moiety through the delipidation cascade, which leads to low density lipoprotein. In this study we have used cumulative flotation ultracentrifugation to follow the metabolism of various lipoprotein subclasses that participate in this process in normal, hypertriglyceridemic (Type IV), and dysbetalipoproteinemic (Type III) subjects. Large triglyceride-rich very low density lipoproteins of Svedberg units of flotation (Sf) 100-400 were converted virtually quantitatively in normal subj

Corrigendum to: Sortilin as a Culprit in the Atherosclerosis Plaque Progression: Evidence from Clinical and Experimental Studies.

It has come to our attention that in the published version of this article [1], reference [86] was cited erroneously; this has now been corrected. The original article can be found online at: https://www.eurekaselect.com/article/145963 Details of the correction are as follows: Original: These contradictory reports regarding the sortilin function in lipid metabolism may result from variations in employed animal models or lipid metabolic milieu. Once the intracellular level of apoB-100 is elevated, sortilin may primarily act as "the degrader," whereby sortilin can target VLDL to the lysosomal de

Proteomic study of cerebrospinal fluid in adult tethered cord syndrome: Chemical structure and function of apolipoprotein B.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Adult tethered cord syndrome (ATCS) has a hidden onset and delayed clinical symptoms. The purpose of this study is to identify hub proteins in the cerebrospinal fluid of ATCS patients through bioinformatics analysis, and to find significant heterogeneity in these proteins between ATCS patients and non ATCS patients (control group). Firstly, differential genes were screened based on proteomic results. Compared with the control group, 18 differentially expressed proteins were upregulated and 18 differentially expressed proteins were downregulated in the cerebrospinal fluid of ATCS patients. Then

The ApoB/ApoA-I ratio supersedes conventional lipids in predicting coronary artery disease and clinical phenotypes requiring revascularization.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the apolipoprotein B (ApoB) to apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I) ratio as a biomarker for coronary heart disease (CHD) and its clinical phenotypes, beyond traditional lipid parameters. METHODS: This single-center, case-control study analyzed 7,277 patients undergoing coronary angiography. Multivariable logistic regression assessed the independent association of the ApoB/ApoA-I ratio with CHD, acute myocardial infarction (AMI), multivessel disease (MVD), and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Predictive performance was evaluated via ROC curve analysis, with prespecified

Abundance of mRNA of apolipoprotein b100, apolipoprotein e, and microsomal triglyceride transfer protein in liver from periparturient dairy cows.

Limited secretion of very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) in dairy cows is strongly related to fatty liver and other metabolic disorders in the early postpartum. Currently, there is limited information on which roles apolipoprotein B(100) (ApoB(100)), apolipoprotein E (ApoE), and microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) play in that VLDL limitation. To our knowledge, no studies have simultaneously measured ApoB(100), ApoE, and MTP mRNA in periparturient dairy cows. Therefore, a trial was conducted to assess liver gene expression of these proteins in transition dairy cows and to evaluate

Divergent responses of the liver to increased delivery of glucose or fatty acids: implications for the pathogenesis of type IV hyperlipoproteinemia.

This study examines the patterns of response of primary cultures of hamster hepatocytes to increased delivery of glucose or oleate. Increased glucose in the medium produced: (1) increased triglyceride in the cells and the medium; (2) no change in cholesterol ester in the cells or the medium; (3) no change in apo B100 secreted into the medium; (4) more apo B100 particles within the VLDL range with an increase in the VLDL triglyceride to apo B100 ratio. By contrast, increased oleate in the medium resulted in: (1) increased triglyceride in the cells and the medium; (2) increased cholesterol ester

Retinal phenotype of APOB100 transgenic mice on a Western diet with human-like hyperlipidemia and cholesterol crystals in the retina and choroid.

Drusen and subretinal drusenoid deposits, the pathognomonic lesions for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), are rich in cholesterol. Yet, AMD is not consistently linked to plasma lipids. Here wild-type and human apolipoprotein B100-expressing (APOB100) mice were put on a Western type of diet for 13 months and then assessed for plasma lipid profile, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) heterogeneity, status of intraretinal and choroidal vasculatures, retinal structure, function, levels of cholesterol and other sterols, lipid and cholesterol distribution and expression of cholesterol-related genes

Oxidative Stress and Antioxidant Levels in Patients with Anorexia Nervosa after Oral Re-alimentation: A Systematic Review and Exploratory Meta-analysis.

Oxidative stress markers seem to be higher in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) than healthy controls, but the potentially beneficial effects of weight gain is not known. We calculated random effects standardised mean differences (SMDs) as effect size measures of oxidative stress marker changes after re-alimentation reported in two or more studies, summarising others descriptively. Seven longitudinal studies (n = 104) were included. After a median follow-up period of 8 weeks, AN patients significantly increased their body mass index (15.1 ± 2.1 to 17.1 ± 2.2, p < 0.0001). This weight gain wa

XbaI polymorphism in the APOB gene and its association with increased cholesterol in children and adolescents: Ouro Preto study.

Atherosclerotic vascular changes can begin during childhood, providing risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in adulthood. Identifiable risk factors such as dyslipidemia accelerate this process for some children. The apolipoprotein B (APOB) gene could help explain the inter-individual variability in lipid levels among young individuals and identify groups that require greater attention to prevent CVD. A cross-sectional study was conducted with school-aged children and adolescents in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais. The study evaluated cardiovascular risk factors' variables and XbaI polymorphism in th
