Hip and core exercise programme prevents running-related overuse injuries in adult novice recreational runners: a three-arm randomised controlled trial (Run RCT).

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the efficacy of two exercise interventions in reducing lower extremity (LE) injuries in novice recreational runners. METHODS: Novice runners (245 female, 80 male) were randomised into hip and core (n=108), ankle and foot (n=111) or control (n=106) groups. Interventions were completed before running and included exercise programmes focusing on either (1) hip and core or (2) ankle and foot muscles. The control group performed static stretching exercises. All groups were supervised by a physiotherapist and performed the same running programme. Injuries a

Percutaneous iliosacral screw and trans-iliac trans-sacral screw with single C-arm fluoroscope intensifier is a safe treatment for pelvic ring injuries.

To elucidate the accuracy, efficacy, and safety of percutaneous iliosacral screw (ISS) and trans-iliac trans-sacral screw (TITS) insertion using a single C-arm fluoroscopy intensifier. Additionally, the potential risk factors that might cause mal-positioned screws were identified. Patients with pelvic ring injuries who underwent percutaneous screw fixation in a single medical institute were divided into an ISS group (n = 59) and a TITS group (n = 62) and assessed. The angles deviated from ideal orientation (ADIO) of the implanted screw were measured, and potential risk factors for mal-position

Effects of Arm-Crank Exercise on Fitness and Health in Adults With Chronic Spinal Cord Injury: A Systematic Review.

Individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) may benefit less from exercise training due to consequences of their injury, leading to lower cardiorespiratory fitness and higher risks of developing cardiovascular diseases. Arm-crank exercise (ACE) is the most common form of volitional aerobic exercise used by people with SCI outside a hospital. However, evidence regarding the specific effects of ACE alone on fitness and health in adults with SCI is currently lacking. Hence, this review aimed to determine the effects of ACE on cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, cardiovascular disease (CVD)

Comparison of upper arm kinematics during a volleyball spike between players with and without a history of shoulder injury.

Volleyball players are at high risk of overuse shoulder injuries, with spike biomechanics a perceived risk factor. This study compared spike kinematics between elite male volleyball players with and without a history of shoulder injuries. Height, mass, maximum jump height, passive shoulder rotation range of motion (ROM), and active trunk ROM were collected on elite players with (13) and without (11) shoulder injury history and were compared using independent samples t tests (P < .05). The average of spike kinematics at impact and range 0.1 s before and after impact during down-the-line and cro

Enhanced arm swing alters interlimb coordination during overground walking in individuals with traumatic brain injury.

The current study investigated interlimb coordination in individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) during overground walking. The study involved 10 participants with coordination, balance, and gait abnormalities post-TBI, as well as 10 sex- and age-matched healthy control individuals. Participants walked 12m under two experimental conditions: 1) at self-selected comfortable walking speeds; and 2) with instructions to increase the amplitude and out-of-phase coordination of arm swinging. The gait was assessed with a set of spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters including the gait velocity,

Responsiveness of the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire and the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire in patients with hand injury.

PURPOSE: To compare responsiveness of the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) with that of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire in patients with hand injuries. We postulated that the MHQ may be more sensitive to functional changes in the hands, whereas the DASH questionnaire would have a closer association with days of disability. METHODS: Patients with hand injuries were consecutively recruited from 2 community hospitals. Each patient was asked to complete out the MHQ, the DASH questionnaire, the satisfaction with their health-related quality of life (S

Mindful SensoriMotor Therapy combined with brain modulation for the treatment of pain in individuals with disarticulation or nerve injuries: a single-arm clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: Neuropathic pain is a complex and demanding medical condition that is often difficult to treat. Regardless of the cause, the impairment, lesion or damage to the nervous system can lead to neuropathic pain, such as phantom limb pain (PLP). No treatment has been found widely effective for PLP, but plasticity-guided therapies have shown the least severe side effects in comparison to pharmacological or surgical interventions. Phantom motor execution (PME) is a plasticity-guided intervention that has shown promising results in alleviating PLP. The potential mechanism underlying the ef
