Chlorinated bis-phenolic disinfectants (CBPDs) are widely used compounds. However, whether they disrupt the endocrine system by inhibiting human and rat aromatase (CYP19A1) remains unclear. OBJECTIVES: Aromatase deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive disease that results in the absence of aromatase. In females it presents with ambiguous genitalia and lack of secondary sexual characteristics during puberty. OBJECTIVE: To define the musculoskeletal syndrome associated with use of aromatase inhibitors (AIs), specifically, to describe its incidence, time to onset, risk factors, and clinical presentation.
METHODS: Postmenopausal women with hormone-sensitive, nonmetastatic breast cancer starting AI therapy were enrolled in this prospective cohort study. OBJECTIVE: To describe the first reported case of a triplet pregnancy subsequent to the use of an aromatase inhibitor for ovulation induction.

SETTING: Academic medical center.
PATIENT(S): A 32-year-old female with polycystic ovary syndrome and primary infertility.
INTERVENTION(S): Letrozole, 5 mg/day, on cycle days 2 to 6 for ovulation induction.

RESULT(S): Viable triplet gestation.

A description is presented of the first documented case of placental aromatase deficiency. The deficiency caused maternal virilization during pregnancy and pseudohermaphroditism of the female fetus.
