Bacillus licheniformis PF9 improves barrier function and alleviates inflammatory responses against enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli F4 infection in the porcine intestinal epithelial cells.

BACKGROUND: Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) F4 commonly colonizes the small intestine and releases enterotoxins that impair the intestinal barrier function and trigger inflammatory responses. Although Bacillus licheniformis (B. licheniformis) has been reported to enhance intestinal health, it remains to be seen whether there is a functional role of B. licheniformis in intestinal inflammatory response in intestinal porcine epithelial cell line (IPEC-J2) when stimulated with ETEC F4. METHODS: In the present study, the effects of B. licheniformis PF9 on the release of pro-inflammation cy

Identification and a phased pH control strategy of diosgenin bio-synthesized by an endogenous Bacillus licheniformis Syt1 derived from Dioscorea zingiberensis C. H. Wright.

Diosgenin is widely used as one precursor of steroidal drugs in pharmaceutical industry. Currently, there is no choice but to traditionally extract diosgenin from Dioscorea zingiberensis C. H. Wright (DZW) or other plants. In this work, an environmentally friendly approach, in which diosgenin can be bio-synthesized by the endophytic bacterium Bacillus licheniformis Syt1 isolated from DZW, is proposed. Diosgenin produced by the strain was identified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The thermal

A thermophilic strain AMF-07, hydrolyzing carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) was isolated from Kerman hot spring and was identified as Bacillus licheniformis based on 16S rRNA sequence homology. The carboxymethylcellulase (CMCase) enzyme produced by the B. licheniformis was purified by (NH4)2SO4 precipitation, ion exchange and gel filtration chromatography. The purified enzyme gave a single band on SDS- PAGE with a molecular weight of 37 kDa. The CMCase enzyme was highly active and stable over broad ranges of temperature (40-80ºC), pH (6.0-10.0) and NaCl concentration (10-25%) with an optimum at 70º

The kinetic properties of the carboxy terminal domain of the Bacillus licheniformis 749/I BlaR penicillin-receptor shed a new light on the derepression of beta-lactamase synthesis.

To study the properties of the BlaR penicillin-receptor involved in the induction of the Bacillus licheniformisbeta-lactamase, the water-soluble carboxy terminal domain of the protein (BlaR-CTD) was overproduced in the periplasm of Escherichia coli JM105 and purified to protein homogeneity. Its interactions with various beta-lactam antibiotics were studied. The second-order acylation rate constants k2/K' ranged from 0.0017 to more than 1 micro M-1s-1 and the deacylation rate constants were lower than 4 x 10-5 s-1. These values imply a rapid to very rapid formation of a stable acylated adduct.

Lactobacillus plantarum and Bacillus licheniformis Ameliorate High-Carbohydrate-High-Fat-Induced Glycolipid Disorders in Common Carp in Association With the Gut Microbiota and Bile Acid Axis.

High-carbohydrate-high-fat (HCHF) diets help reduce feed costs in intensive aquaculture, but they often induce glycolipid metabolic disorders and hepatopancreatic steatosis in farmed fish. Although probiotics have shown promise in ameliorating metabolic disorders, the mechanisms by which they interact with the gut microbiota-bile acid (BA) axis in fish remain poorly understood. In this study, common carp were fed an HCHF diet to establish a glycolipid disorder model, followed by dietary supplementation with Lactobacillus plantarum (LP) and Bacillus licheniformis (BL) for 8 weeks. Application of statistical designs strategy to improve cellulase production using agro-waste residue by a novel isolate Bacillus licheniformis strain-MA1 and assessing the enzyme effect on apple juice quality.

BACKGROUND: Cellulose is the major part of lignocellulosic biomass. It can be hydrolyzed into glucose units via specific enzymes called cellulases that have been applied in many commercial fields. There are several studies illustrate the influence of enzymes on apple juice clarification. However, to the best of our knowledge, the effect of microbial cellulase on volatile compounds of apple juice is not well known. The present study aimed to assess the effect of cellulase from a new bacterial isolate on the physicochemical properties of apple juice as well as volatile compounds. The hydrolysis
