AIMS: To evaluate two selective media, polymyxin, lysozyme, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, thallium acetate (PLET) agar and R&F Anthracis chromogenic agar (ChrA), for the isolation and selection of Bacillus anthracis.

Quantitative and qualitative bacteriological studies have been performed on bladder urines taken by two different technics. Bladder urine was first obtained by suprapubic bladder aspiration. Immediately after the puncture another sample of bladder urine was obtained by the "invagination catheter" (only usable in women) transurethrally. In the early stage of Leptospirae infection there is always blood stream invasion so blood culture is the best diagnostic test and permit precise etiologic identification. A patient with cytological and clinical evidence of IUD-associated anaerobic endometritis was studied with quantitative and qualitative bacteriological techniques. With the exception of elimination of Actinomyces israelii from the deep endocervical/endometrial culture, IUD removal induced minimal qualitative changes in the bacterial flora of the endocervical/endometrial sample during the 35 days the patient was monitored. The interposition of menstruation did not significantly alter either the quantitative or qualitative interrelationship of the bacteria present.
