OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to clarify the association between oral human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and periodontitis in Japanese adults.
METHODOLOGY: In total, 190 patients (75 men and 115 women; mean age, 70.2 years) who visited Hiroshima University Hospital between March 2018 and May 2020 were included. Oral rinse samples were taken to examine the presence of HCMV DNA using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). P. gingivalis was detected by semi-quantitative PCR analysis.

Pyogenic liver abscess of odontogenic origin in an immunocompetent patient is extremely rare. We report an immunocompetent 25-year-old male hepatitis B carrier with severe dental disease that led to the development of liver abscess. UNLABELLED: Vaginal flora plays a vital role in human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and progression to cancer. To reveal a role of the vaginal flora in HPV persistence and clearance, 90 patients with HPV infection and 45 healthy individuals were enrolled in this study and their vaginal flora were analyzed. Twenty-six pediatric patients with osteomyelitis caused by anaerobic bacteria are presented.
