BACKGROUND:: Lateral epicondylitis is one of the most common causes of elbow pain. It is generally observed in people between the ages of 40 and 50 years, and the dominant extremity is more frequently affected. Various noninvasive methods are frequently used; however, studies investigating the effectiveness of the orthoses are limited and with controversial outcomes.
OBJECTIVE:: To investigate the effectiveness of a hand-wrist resting orthosis and an epicondylitis bandage in lateral epicondylitis.
STUDY DESIGN:: Randomized controlled trial.
METHODS:: In total, 82 patients diagnosed with uni

Intralymphatic histiocytosis is a rare disorder associated with a variety of inflammatory conditions. We report the case of an 89-year-old woman with a history of a right knee replacement and a ruptured popliteal cyst who developed an erythematous indurated plaque over the surgical scar. Histopathology revealed fibrosis, chronic inflammation, and histiocytes within the lymphatics consistent with intralymphatic histiocytosis. The plaque flattened following intralesional injection of triamcinolone acetonide 10 mg/cc×1.6 cc once monthly for 2 consecutive months and application of a pressure banda

The article discusses surgical options currently available for different stages of keratoconus. Indications and possible complications of each method are described in detail. So called intralamellar bandage keratoplasty, a new surgical procedure developed in the Research Institute of Eye Diseases and aimed at stabilizing the disease, is presented. Preliminary results suggest that the procedure is a promissing method for corneal thickness restitution and early stabilization of progressive keratoconus.

In the present technique report, we describe a useful noninvasive traction technique that uses a 6-inch elastic bandage that can be obtained in every operating room and can be easily applied around the patient's ankle and the surgeon's waist to offer a stable traction force during minimally invasive plate fixation of distal tibial fractures. This technique frees the surgeon's hands to focus on applying other forces, such as rotational, varus, or valgus forces, to reduce the fracture and stabilize the reduction and alignment during percutaneous insertion and fixation of the plate. This techniqu

AIM: We evaluated the eventual effects of leg compression on seating-induced postural hypotension (PH) in the context of various relevant clinical variables.
METHODS: Included were 73 hospitalized patients with various acute conditions, aged ≥ 60 years, bedridden for ≥ 8 h, with diagnosed PH [≥ 20 mmHg systolic and/or ≥ 10 mmHg diastolic blood pressure (BP) falls] at the first seating. BP, heart rhythm, dizziness and palpitations were recorded before and during 5 min of sitting. The next day, the patients were reevaluated, this time using compression bandages applied along both legs before se

BACKGROUND: Traumatic injury is a major global health problem, accounting for approximately 1 in 10 deaths worldwide. Hemorrhagic shock accounts for 30% to 40% of injury-associated deaths (2/3 of those patients surviving to reach the hospital) and is the leading cause of preventable and early in-hospital mortality. Excessive blood loss is an infrequent but important complication of both elective and emergency surgery, increasing the risk of morbidity and mortality and prolonging the duration of hospital stay.
RESULTS: The modified rapid deployment hemostat (mRDH) trauma bandage has been devel

PURPOSE: To determine whether a polymerizing liquid hydrogel ocular bandage can create a watertight seal in a clear corneal cataract incision.
SETTING: Laboratory.
METHODS: Twenty-four clear corneal cataract wounds were made in eye-bank corneas. Twelve wounds were treated with a tissue-adherent hydrogel ocular bandage; 12 control wounds received no bandage. Each eye was tested under low-pressure conditions to detect fluid ingress of India ink on the eye's surface. Eyes were tested again with external compression to distort the wound to detect fluid egress.
RESULTS: India ink did not enter t

The value of a compression bandage applied for 4 days following ankle sprains was assessed in a comparative study. The effect of the treatment was evaluated by changes in an inflammatory score based on a combination of subjective (pain, function) and objective (swelling, limitation of movement, pain on passive movement) factors. The study included two consecutive series each of 50 patients treated with a compression bandage, and untreated. There was no significant difference in the reduction of the inflammatory score from start to the fourth day (0.5 less than p less than 0.6) or from start to

ObjectivesThis study aims to compare the effectiveness of compression bandages and compression stockings in the treatment of venous ulcers following venous ulcer surgery.MethodA total of 170 patients who underwent venous ulcer surgery were included in this retrospective study. Patients were divided into two groups: the first group used compression bandages, and the second group used compression stockings. In all patients, a sterile cotton dressing from the venous ulcer care kit was first applied directly over the open ulcer to protect the wound bed. Both groups were followed for 3 months. Demo

Chronic wounds remain a major healthcare challenge because persistent inflammation, biofilm formation, oxidative stress, protease imbalance, hypoxia, and impaired angiogenesis prevent progression through normal healing. Conventional wound dressings provide passive protection but cannot continuously monitor the dynamic wound microenvironment or deliver adaptive therapy. Unlike previous reviews that independently summarize wound biosensors, responsive biomaterials, or drug-delivery systems, this review critically integrates the complete closed-loop paradigm of intelligent wound management, from

Oral mucosa inflammation can cause severe pain and interfere with eating, reducing quality of life. However, few options for self-care are available. An oral liquid bandage forms a protective film over the affected area. We aimed to assess the acid erosion risk when a newly developed oral liquid bandage (ORAPLA) is accidentally deposited on teeth and to examine the relative acid erosion risk at multiple time points of the maximum recommended duration of continuous use. ORAPLA was applied to both enamel and dentin blocks from 45 bovine anterior mandibular teeth, and an acid challenge was perfor

Living with bandages: a mixed-methods-study on the view of families of children with epidermolysis bullosa Abstract. Background: Children with epidermolysis bullosa (EB) often need new bandages regularly due to sore skin and blistering. Aim: The question about the experiences of parents and children affected by EB with dressing materials is intended to identify starting points for effective support of families. Methods: In the first part of the sequential mixed-methods study, guideline-based interviews were conducted and evaluated with qualitative content analysis. Based on the results, a ques

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the difference between mean interface sub-bandage pressures of two multilayer compression bandage systems in healthy volunteers when supine, standing, exercising and during recovery.
METHOD: Inelastic and elastic compression bandages were randomised to opposite limbs of each participant. Sub-bandage interface pressures for both bandages were compared within person. Participants and study staff were aware of the treatment. A pressure transducer measured sub-bandage pressures on the medial aspect of the lower leg, at the transition of the gastrocnemius muscle into the Ach

Venous contention with elastic bandages is widely used in the treatment of Venous Insufficiency. We have attempted to number the clinical improvement by measuring TcPO2. Our study includes 16 cases; divided as follows: 6 healthy subjects (reference), 5 patients with severe varicose veins of the lower extremities, without ulcer, and 5 patients with varicose veins with ulcer of the leg. Measurements were carried out before and after 10 hours of venous contention. For each patient we have used a light bandage (x) with stretching to 30 and 50% of its length, and a heavy bandage (x) with stretching

The purpose of this study was to determine if the removable rigid dressing is more effective in preprosthetic management than the conventional support dressing with elastic bandages. Residual limb circumference, independent application of the dressing, tendency of the dressing to remain secure, development of pressure areas, and presence of pain were evaluated in two groups of below-knee amputees. Subjects were randomly assigned to use either removable rigid dressings or conventional elastic bandages. Residual limb circumference was measured three times a week, and the other variables were mea
