A Novel Mecp2Y120D Knock-in Model Displays Similar Behavioral Traits But Distinct Molecular Features Compared to the Mecp2-Null Mouse Implying Precision Medicine for the Treatment of Rett Syndrome.

MeCP2 is a fundamental protein associated with several neurological disorders, including Rett syndrome. It is considered a multifunctional factor with a prominent role in regulating chromatin structure; however, a full comprehension of the consequences of its deficiency is still lacking. Here, we characterize a novel mouse model of Mecp2 bearing the human mutation Y120D, which is localized in the methyl-binding domain. As most models of Mecp2, the Mecp2Y120D mouse develops a severe Rett-like phenotype. This mutation alters the interaction of the protein with chromatin, but surprisingly, it als

Self-Reported Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behavior Disturbance and Its Associated Factors among Medicine and Health Science Students at the University of Gondar.

INTRODUCTION: Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is characterized by dream-enacting behavior (shouting, punching, and falling out of bed) related to unpleasant dreams and loss of normal rapid eye movement (REM) sleep muscle atonia. Rapid eye movement sleep enhances learning and memory by regulating neuronal synapses, and if it is undesirable, it can lead to cognitive impairment and poor academic performance and may end up with death. To the best of our searching databases, there is no such study conducted in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study is aimed at determining self-reported sy

Spiritual Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practices, Health-Related Behaviors, and Mortality Among US Adults: A National Health Interview Survey-Based Cohort Study.

Background Relatively few studies have examined population-level impacts of spiritual practices on health. The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) asks adults about spiritual practices for their own health in a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) module roughly every five years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) linked 1986 to 2018 surveys to the National Death Index. Objective Study objectives are to 1) compare spiritual practices as asked within CAM modules to mortality by the end of 2019, adjusting for respondent characteristics; 2) identify how health behavi

Developmental neurotoxicity evaluation of three Chinese herbal medicines in zebrafish larvae by means of two behavioral assays: Touch-evoked response and light/dark transition.

Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) is used among pregnant women. However, the question of its safety during pregnancy remains unclear. The use of these products relies on history of use data but there are specific toxicities like developmental neurotoxicity that are clearly understudied. Here we use the zebfrafish embryo developmental toxicity assay (ZEDTA) in combination with two behavioral assays: touch-evoked response and Light/Dark (L/D) transition assay to evaluate the neuro/developmental toxicity of three herbal products commonly used in CHM [Chinese name (abbreviation; part of the plant and

Spatial distribution and cluster analysis of retail drug shop characteristics and antimalarial behaviors as reported by private medicine retailers in western Kenya: informing future interventions.

BACKGROUND: Efforts to improve malaria case management in sub-Saharan Africa have shifted focus to private antimalarial retailers to increase access to appropriate treatment. Demands to decrease intervention cost while increasing efficacy requires interventions tailored to geographic regions with demonstrated need. Cluster analysis presents an opportunity to meet this demand, but has not been applied to the retail sector or antimalarial retailer behaviors. This research conducted cluster analysis on medicine retailer behaviors in Kenya, to improve malaria case management and inform future inte

The Harris Center: Expanding Integrated Care with Partnerships Beyond Traditional Clinic Walls.

Integrated behavioral health care has advanced from simple service colocation to a coordinated, system-wide approach that connects behavioral health, primary care, emergency medicine, social services, and community support. Health systems increasingly rely on partnerships to address the complex medical and social needs driving population health outcomes. The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (The Harris Center) illustrates this evolution, operating as a comprehensive population health partner that serves nearly 90,000 individuals annually across Harris County. Through deep integration wi

The role of PAs in providing mental health care.

The prevalence of psychiatric and substance use disorders in the United States is rising and of growing concern. Because such behavioral conditions are widespread, one approach is to collaborate with various medical professionals to help offset this demand. To address this issue, the frequency and types of mental health conditions encountered by physician assistants (PAs) were assessed. The National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants Practice Analysis was examined for the types of mental health conditions encountered across the spectrum of medical and surgical practices. Cardiology and lifestyle medicine.

Poor lifestyle habits, such as physical inactivity and poor diets, are highly prevalent within society and even more so among patients with chronic disease. The need to stem poor lifestyle habits has led to the development of a new field of Lifestyle Medicine, whose mission is to prevent, treat, and even reverse chronic diseases through lifestyle interventions. Three fields within Cardiology relate to this mission: Cardiac Rehabilitation, Preventive Cardiology, and Behavioral Cardiology. Each of these three fields have contributed substantially to the reduction of cardiovascular disease (CVD)

Integrative therapeutics for ocular surface disorders.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Integrative medicine techniques are increasingly accepted into the treatment paradigm for many chronic disorders including eye disease. Over 71% of patients, including 67% of those with eye disorders, use some form of Integrative therapy. Physicians should be well versed in evidence-based therapies to know how to refer patients for the best complimentary care. We highlight the most effective integrative therapeutics from different complementary treatment paradigms to offer a framework for approaching therapy in patients with ocular surface disorders (OSDs). RECENT FINDINGS:
