Brown spot disease caused by the fungus Bipolaris oryzae severely limits rice production and quality worldwide. The excessive use of chemical fungicides underscores the need for sustainable biological alternatives, such as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). In this study, four Gram-negative bacterial isolates, designated as P1-P4, were obtained from the rhizosphere of Phragmites australis and evaluated for their plant growth-promoting and antifungal activities. Among these isolates, P3 (molecularly identified as Stutzerimonas stutzeri AUMC B-503) exhibited the highest production of i

Allergic fungal sinusitis (AFS) is a noninvasive form of fungal rhinosinusitis with an incidence of between 6 and 9% of all rhinosinusitis requiring surgery. Regional variation in incidence has been reported, with the southern and southwestern US particularly endemic. Patients with AFS commonly present with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, inhalant atopy, elevated total serum immunoglobulin E (IgE), and sinus-obstructing inspissates of a characteristic extramucosal 'peanut buttery' visco-elastic eosinophil-rich material called 'allergic mucin' that contains sparse numbers of fungal hy

BACKGROUND: Many common chronic inflammatory disorders have strong HLA gene associations, particularly with MHC class II. Allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFS) and hypertrophic sinus disease (HSD) are chronic sinonasal mucosal inflammatory disorders. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, a disorder analogous to AFS, was recently reported to have HLA-MHC class II associations.
OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine whether MHC class II is also associated with AFS and HSD.
METHODS: HLA DNA genotyping was obtained on 44 patients with AFS and 30 patients with HSD (of which 21 were atopic).

Rhizoctonia solani, the causal agent of banded leaf and sheath blight (BL&SB), poses a significant threat to maize and various crops globally. The increasing concerns surrounding the environmental and health impacts of chemical fungicides have encouraged intensified concern in the development of biological control agents (BCAs) as eco-friendly alternatives. In this study, we explored the potential of 22 rhizobacteria strains (AS1-AS22) isolates, recovered from the grasslands of the Pithoragarh region in the Central Himalayas, as effective BCAs against BL&SB disease. Among these strains, two Ps

Bacterial strain TSO55 was isolated from a commercial field of wheat (Triticum turgidum L. subsp. durum), under organic amendments, located in the Yaqui Valley, Mexico. Morphological and microscopical characterization showed off-white irregular colonies and Gram-positive bacillus, respectively. The draft genome sequence of this strain revealed a genomic size of 5,489,151 bp, with a G + C content of 35.21%, N50 value of 245,934 bp, L50 value of 8, and 85 contigs. Taxonomic affiliation showed that strain TSO55 belongs to Bacillus paranthracis, reported as an emergent human pathogen. Genome annot

The plant microbiome plays a pivotal role in plant survival in natural habitats by facilitating nutrient acquisition, stress adaptation, and disease suppression, while also offering opportunities to enhance crop productivity and climate resilience. However, the distribution of persistent and culturable bacteriome across maize-associated niches and their functional potential remain poorly resolved. This study integrated metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS-based metabarcoding) and culturomics to characterise the maize-associated bacteriome of bulk soil, rhizoplane, phylloplane, and cob

Although fungal eye infections are a major cause of visual impairment worldwide, standard clinical laboratory methods remain slow, insensitive, and limited in their taxonomic resolution. Sequencing of the full ribosomal RNA (rRNA) operon provides a comprehensive marker for fungal identification. In this study, twenty fungal isolates associated with ocular infections were obtained from Srinagarind Hospital, Thailand, and characterized using four identification approaches. Initial hospital-based routine identification relied on conventional morphological methods and matrix-assisted laser desorpt

In 2001 and again in December 2005, an outbreak of leaf spots was observed on Guzmania sp. 'Gwendolyne' (Bromeliaceae) in a Belgian nursery. Typical disease symptoms were irregular spots with a grayish center and a narrow red-brown margin. Identification was based on morphological characteristics and molecular techniques. Isolations of diseased leaf tissues previously washed with sterile distilled water on potato dextrose agar (PDA) resulted in mycelial colonies after 7 to 8 days. Fungal mycelium grew at a linear rate of 30.4 mm per 24 h at 21°C in the dark. The pathogen produced aerial myceli
