The combined effect of environmental exposure and dietary behavior plays a vital role in the occurrence of diseases. Bisphenol S (BPS) and bisphenol F (BPF) are the most commonly used substitutes for bisphenol A (BPA). Previous studies have shown that the combined exposure to BPA and fructose caused significant disturbances in glycolipid metabolism in adipose tissue, however, the interference caused by the combined exposure to BPS and fructose or BPF and fructose on adipose tissue is still unclear. In the present study, we performed a integrated analysis of targeted energy metabolomics and wid

BACKGROUND/ OBJECTIVES: Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory skin disorder. Endocrinedisrupting chemicals (EDC) are toxic substances, that may gain entry through the skin and subsequently interfere with hormonal and immune functions. Bisphenol A (BPA) and pentachlorophenol sodium (PCS) are two of these EDCs, incriminated in the pathogenesis of certain inflammatory skin disorders. We aimed to test the hypothesis that exposure to BPA and PCS might be involved in the pathogenesis of rosacea.
METHODS: This prospective cross-sectional study involved 34 patients with rosacea (18F/16 M; mean age

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a monomer that is widely used in the manufacturing of polycarbonate plastics (including storage plastics and baby bottles) and is considered to be one of the most widely used synthetic compounds in the manufacturing industry. Exposure to BPA mainly occurs after oral ingestion and results from leaks into food and water from plastic containers. According to epidemiological data, exposure is widespread and estimated to occur in 90% of individuals. BPA exhibits pleiotropic and estrogen-like effects; thus, it is considered an endocrine-disrupting chemical. A growing body of evi

The arrangement of bisphenol A molecules into organoclays and their interactions with the intercalated surfactant were studied. The organoclays were prepared via solid-state intercalation of four cationic surfactants, such as dodecyltrimethyl-, tetradecyltrimethyl-, hexadecyltrimethyl-, and didodecyldimethyl-ammonium, as bromide salts, at different loading levels into the interlayers of two natural clays. The natural clays, the prepared organoclays, and the spent organoclays were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. X-ray powder di

Although there are numerous studies on bisphenol A (BPA) on the testis and spermatozoa, the effect of BPA on the physiological link between the testis and maturation of spermatozoa has not been studied. To provide an optimal environment (acidic pH) for sperm maturation in the epididymis, clear cells secrete protons and principal cells reabsorb bicarbonate and the secreted proton. Because of its crucial role in sperm maturation and fertility, functional changes in the epididymis following BPA exposure must be considered to fully understand the mechanisms of BPA on male fertility. Here, we ident

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are exogenous chemical compounds ubiquitously found in everyday life of the modern world. EDCs enter the human body where they act similarly to endogenous hormones, altering the functions of the endocrine system and causing adverse effects on human health. Bisphenol A (BPA), the principal representative of this class, is a carbon-based synthetic plastic, and a key element in manufacturing cans, reusable water bottles and medical equipment. BPA mimics the actions of estrogen on multiple levels by activating estrogen receptors α and β. BPA regulates various

Bisphenol A (BPA) is known to be an emerging pollutant in various environmental compartments. Human exposure to BPA occurs widely because it is commonly used as the raw material in a variety of industrial processes (e.g., the preparation of epoxy and polycarbonate resins). In this review, a brief survey was carried out to cover a range of photocatalytic materials (e.g., titania, zinc, silver, carbon, and bismuth) and their modified forms as an effective means to treat water systems contaminated with BPA. The overall efficiency and limitations of these catalysts are described for the photocatal

In this study, a submerged membrane bioreactor was used to study the effect of low and high bisphenol A (BPA) concentration on the sludge biological activity. The pilot was operated over 540 days with hydraulic retention time and solid retention time of 5.5 hours and 140 days, respectively. As a hydrophobic compound, BPA was highly adsorbed by activated sludge. In lower concentrations, the biodegradation rate remained low, since the BPA concentration in the sludge was lower than 0.5 mg/g TS; yet, at an influent concentration up to 15 mg/L, the biodegradation rate was increasing, resulting in 9

Bisphenol-A(BPA) is a member of alkylphenol family, and shows adverse effects including reduced fertility, reproductive tract abnormalities, metabolic disorder, cancer induction, neurotoxicity and immunotoxicity. In the present study, we conducted Hershberger assay to evaluate whether the two candidates to replace BPA have androgenic or antiandrogenic activity. The assay was carried out using immature castrated Sprague-Dawley male rats. After 7 days of the surgery, testosterone propionate (TP, 0.4 mg/kg/day) and test materials (low dose, 40 mg/kg/day; high dose, 400 mg/kg/day) were administere

BPA is a ubiquitous environmental contaminant, resulting mainly from manufacturing, use or disposal of plastics of which it is a component, and the degradation of industrial plastic-related wastes. Growing evidence from research on laboratory animals, wildlife, and humans supports the view that BPA produces an endocrine disrupting effect and adversely affects male reproductive function. To better understand the adverse effects caused by exposure to BPA, we performed an up-to-date literature review on the topic, with particular emphasis on in utero exposure, and associated effects on spermatogen

The "tolerable daily intake" of bisphenol A, established by the European and US regulatory agencies, is based on a small number of reproductive toxicity studies in animals, mostly funded by industry, using protocols that adhere to regulatory guidelines. Many scientists consider these regulatory toxicology tests unsuitable for the evaluation of endocrine disrupters, because they cannot be used to demonstrate the effects of low doses of bisphenol A, observed in dozens of independent studies. Results obtained in studies of high doses of bisphenol A have been extrapolated to predict the effects of

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine-disrupting chemical that leads to low-dose human exposure due to its ability to leach from chemically derived products, as polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resin. In addition to its known xeno-endocrine action, BPA exerts a wide range of metabolic effects. Despite the documented BPA exposure outcomes on synthesis of thyroid hormones, there are not any data available on its actions on the thyroid follicular cells, site of synthesis of the thyroid hormones. Recently, it has been shown that several environmental pollutants, as BPA, can exert a thyroid disrupting

Bisphenol-A has been extensively evaluated for toxicity in a variety of tests as the most common environmental endocrine disruptor. In the present study, we found that prenatal and neonatal exposure to bisphenol-A affects the development of the central dopaminergic system in the mouse limbic area. Additionally, this treatment with bisphenol-A produced a down-regulation of dopamine D3 receptor and an up-regulation of dopamine D1 receptor function to activate G-protein in the mouse limbic forebrain, which is thought to play a critical role for rewarding effects by drugs of abuse. We next investi

Bisphenol A (BPA), a monomer of polycarbonate plastics, has been shown to possess estrogenic properties and act as an agonist for the estrogen receptors. Although an epidemiologically based investigation has suggested that some chemicals could disrupt thyroid function in animals, the effects on thyroid hormone receptors (TRs) are unknown. We show here that BPA inhibits TR-mediated transcription by acting as an antagonist. In the transient gene expression experiments, BPA suppressed transcriptional activity that is stimulated by thyroid hormone (T(3)) in a dose-dependent manner. The inhibitory

Bisphenol A replacement chemicals can result in toxicity to neuronal cells, however, the underlying mechanisms are not well characterized. Transcriptome analysis was conducted in the neuronal SH-SY5Y human cell line following exposure of cells to either bisphenol F (BPF) or bisphenol S (BPS) at a concentration of 0.1 nM. Transcriptome data were used to predict which diseases were associated with bisphenol exposure using sub-network enrichment analysis. There were 305 subnetworks perturbed by BPF and 279 subnetworks perturbed by BPS. Top gene sets altered by BPF included urticaria, gastric lesi

Bisphenols (BPs), ubiquitous in food packaging, medical, and personal care products, are pervasive environmental contaminants. As bisphenol A (BPA) is increasingly replaced by its alternatives, the risk of mixed exposure and its impact on critical cognitive functions, such as working memory, remains a pressing but understudied concern. Here, we modeled developmental exposure to BPA and a bisphenol mixture (BPmix, BPA: BPS: BPF = 9:0.5:0.5) by administering the compounds to dams via drinking water during gestation and lactation. Behavioral analyses revealed that BPA and BPmix exposure significa
