[Physical forces in blister formation. I. Direct measurement of blister fluid colloid osmotic pressure in suction blisters and in bullous diseases (author's transl)].

The physical forces operative in the fluid migration from the interstitial spaces into the blister cleft have not been directly measured until now. The colloid osmotic pressure was determined in suction blister fluid after mild suction blister production by a modified "Dermovac" and in blister fluid of patients with dermatitis herpetiformis, bullous allergic contact dermatitis and pemphrigus vulgaris and in the sera of healthy persons. The colloid osmotic pressure was measured by means of a recently developed osmometer with a semipermeable membrane between two chambers, one of them filled with

High-Frequency Ultrasound in Blistering Skin Diseases: A Useful Method for Differentiating Blister Locations.

Bullous pemphigoid and pemphigus vulgaris, which belong to the group of subepidermal and intraepidermal bullae, respectively, are two potentially devastating blistering skin diseases. We used high-frequency ultrasound (US) in 3 cases of these diseases as prototypes to study the value of high-frequency US in discriminating blister locations. Our findings showed that high-frequency US has a strong correlation with histomorphometric findings because of its high resolution, and we hope that it will be helpful for differentiating blister locations.

Aspiration of a drug in a blister pack.

We report a rare case of aspiration of a drug in a press-through package (PTP) treated by not just pulling it but using a unique technique. A 73-year-old woman was referred to our department because of a persistent cough resulting from aspiration of a PTP. Flexible bronchoscopy identified the PTP in the trachea immediately above the carina. Just pulling the centre of the PTP edge with biopsy forceps could not move it, and we then rotated it by pulling the corner of the PTP edge to directly below the vocal cord. Passing over the vocal cord was difficult, which made us remove the bronchoscope an

Blister-like aneurysm of the anterior communicating artery.

We report a recent experience with a blister-like aneurysm of the anterior communicating artery and suggest that this entity may be responsible for so-called non-aneurysmal haemorrhage when the distribution of blood is atypical.

Coma Blister After Trazodone Misuse: A Case Report.

Coma blisters are epidermal and subepidermal bullous lesions that can arise throughout the body after a prolonged impairment of consciousness. Coma blister-like lesions have been well-documented in adults after barbiturate-induced intoxication. More recently, other drugs and substances have been associated with the development of these bullae, which has broadened the scope of medications that put patients at risk of developing coma blister-like lesions. We present a unique case of a noncomatose patient who developed coma blister-like lesions after trazodone misuse. This case illustrates the ne

In Vitro Comparison of Two Blister-Type Inhalers.

BACKGROUND: Ellipta is a respiratory device that is a successor of the Diskus. A major difference between the devices is that Ellipta, especially the 2-strip type, includes a pair of blisters rather than a single blister as contained in Diskus. This study aimed to compare the particle-release properties and mechanical features of both devices. METHODS: A pump was used to evacuate air from each dry powder inhaler (DPI) with either a ramp-up or triangular pattern. The particle release volume and peak inspiratory flow of the DPIs were compared. Then the resistance of each component was measured.

Exploring the Mechanism for Blister Prevention Using Moleskin.

Moleskin is a commonly used material in podiatry and sports medicine for blister prevention and treatment. Common understanding regarding its protective mechanism is reduction of friction at the interface between the foot and the sock/shoe. We argue that moleskin may actually increase friction at this interface, but nonetheless prevents blisters by dispersing shear load within the skin across a wider surface area, reducing potential for skin damage.

Friction Blister by Climbing Harness: A Case Report.

An experienced 24-y-old climber on Mount Everest presented to the Base Camp medical clinic with a friction blister on his right flank. The blister was filled with clear fluid and was located about 3 cm posterior and 3 cm superior to the highest point of the right iliac crest, the site where a climbing harness would support the climber while hanging. A diagnosis of friction blister caused by a climbing harness used while traversing between Camp 2 and Camp 3 of Mount Everest was made. The blister was managed with hydrocolloid dressing, and the patient resumed climbing after 1 wk. The lesion heal

Endovascular treatment of intracranial 'blister' and dissecting aneurysms.

INTRODUCTION: Blister and dissecting aneurysms may have a different pathological background but they are commonly defined by instability of the vessel wall and bear a high risk of fatal rupture and rerupture. Lack of aneurysm sack makes treatment challenging. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess the safety and feasibility of endovascular treatment of intracranial blister and dissecting aneurysms. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed all patients with ruptured and unruptured blister and dissecting aneurysms treated endovascularly between 2004-2018. Procedural details, complication

Predominance of CD14+ Cells in Burn Blister Fluids.

BACKGROUND: Burn blister fluid contains several angiogenic factors to promote wound neovascularization. In our previous study, we found that deep partial-thickness burn (DPTB) wounds showed higher expression levels of angiogenin to enhance vascularization compared with superficial partial-thickness burn wounds. Neovascularization is a complex process that involves an interaction between circulating angiogenic cells and mediators. We hypothesized that in addition to angiogenic factors burn blisters may contain specific cell types. The aim of the present study was to characterize the specific ce

Blister-like aneurysms--a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.

Blister-like internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms are known for their fragile and thin-walled morphology associated with a high risk of intraprocedural rupture. Neurosurgical and endovascular options are illustrated on three exemplary cases reviewing the diagnostic and therapeutic implications of these special aneurysms. A 49-year-old woman was admitted with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in which angiography showed a broad-based, small bulging ectasy of the terminal ICA segment. On the attempt of surgical clipping, the aneurysm ruptured leaving a tear in the ICA. After temporary clipping, t

Autologous suction blister grafting for chronic leg ulcers.

BACKGROUND: Non-healing leg ulcers represent a treatment problem. OBJECTIVE: Investigate grafting of autologous suction blister roofs as treatment. METHODS: Twenty-nine chronic, non-healing leg ulcers of various aetiologies in 18 inpatients were treated by autologous epidermal grafting using the roofs of suction blisters. RESULTS: 55% of ulcers completely healed 2 to 6 weeks after grafting. A 50-90% reduction in size was documented in 34% and no change was observed in 11% of ulcers. Twelve weeks after grafting, 89% of ulcers were healed completely. In most ulcers, we observed a stimulation

Reliable site for suction blister induction and harvesting.

BACKGROUND: Suction blister grafting is a useful modality of treatment of patients with resistant and stable vitiligo. However, there have been no detailed studies to find out the best donor site for blister formation. METHODS: The study was conducted between the period of October 2004 and February 2005 in the dermatology department at a tertiary care center. Nine patients with vitiligo (focal vitiligo, 3; mucosal vitiligo, 2; acrofacial vitiligo, 2; vitiligo vulgaris, 1; and segmental vitiligo, 1) were selected for blister harvesting and grafting. The blisters were raised using the method de
