Porcine bocavirus (PBoV) was first identified in Sweden in 2009. Due to its association with healthy as well as diseased pigs, its role in clinical disease has not been reported yet. In the present study, bocavirus was identified from the intestinal content of a 30-day-old piglet and its whole genome was constructed and phylogenetic analysis was carried on. The pathogenesis of bocavirus was investigated following orogastric inoculation of the colostrum-deprived newborn piglet with bacteria free intestinal content. The bocavirus-inoculated piglets developed diarrhea, shed virus in the rectal sw

This case of a child presenting with severe acute respiratory failure requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation due to plastic bronchitis demonstrates the possibility of developing this rare condition despite having no known underlying inflammatory or lymphatic issues. The normal lymphatic anatomy and flow in our patient several weeks after the acute illness suggests a transient lymphatic flow abnormality possibly driven by the acute lower respiratory tract infection with human bocavirus-1 (HBoV1). As there are now four patients in the literature identified with Plastic bronchitis (PB) in

UNLABELLED: Human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1), an emerging human-pathogenic respiratory virus, is a member of the genus Bocaparvovirus of the Parvoviridae family. In human airway epithelium air-liquid interface (HAE-ALI) cultures, HBoV1 infection initiates a DNA damage response (DDR), activating all three phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-related kinases (PI3KKs): ATM, ATR, and DNA-PKcs. In this context, activation of PI3KKs is a requirement for amplification of the HBoV1 genome (X. Deng, Z. Yan, F. Cheng, J. F. Engelhardt, and J. Qiu, PLoS Pathog, 12:e1005399, 2016, https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.ppat.1

Human bocavirus (HBoV) is a parvovirus with a possible aetiological role in respiratory disease that is currently under investigation. We detected HBoV1 in children and adults hospitalized with acute disease of the lower respiratory tract. HBoV genome was detected by PCR in nasopharyngeal swabs collected from 75 patients aged 0-89 years during 2010. HBoV was found in 17/75 (22.7 %) patients, 64.7 % of them infants younger than 1 year old and 29.4 % adults older than 30 years [the bimodal age distribution among HBoV-positive (HBoV(+)) patients was statistically significant, P<0.001]. Of all HBo

ObjectivesFeline bocavirus (FBoV) is a single-stranded DNA virus of the genus Bocaparvovirus, family Parvoviridae. First identified in 2012, it comprises three species - FBoV-1, FBoV-2 and FBoV-3 - and is globally distributed. Although associated with gastrointestinal disease in cats, its pathogenesis and shedding patterns remain unclear. This study investigated the shedding dynamics of FBoV in naturally infected cats with gastrointestinal signs.MethodsA longitudinal sampling approach was employed in three separate multi-cat households, involving seven symptomatic cats across multiple time poi

The aims of this study were to investigate the human bocavirus (HBoV) frequency and genotypes in hospitalized children <5 years presenting acute respiratory infections (ARI) within the São Paulo metropolitan area. Nasopharyngeal samples from 300 patients, previously screened for common respiratory viruses, were tested by qPCR for the NSP1 and NP-1 genes. The VP1/2 gene in positive samples was then amplified by PCR and sequenced. A total of 49 positive HBoV cases (16.3%; mean Ct value of 34.41) were detected with the mean age being 18.1 months (range 1 month to 5 years) and the median age being

Human Bocavirus 1 (HBoV1) is one major pathogen that has been associated with wheezing illnesses. However, there is still a lack of effective clinical predictive indicators for wheezing illnesses in children infected with HBoV1. A retrospective cohort study was conducted among pediatric patients with single-HBoV1 infection from September 2016 to August 2023. Then, univariate logistic regression was used to screen potential predictors for wheezing illness, and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression was applied to minimize overfitting and select key predictors. Human bocavirus (HBoV) is a causative agent of respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases worldwide. Four HBoV species (HBoV1-4) have been identified so far. Although a previous report has documented the HBoV association with acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in Taiwan, their epidemiology, genetic diversity, and phylogenetic relationships remain unclear. In this study, we focused on an investigation of these unsolved issues, which will help to reveal molecular epidemiology and phylogeny of the circulating HBoV2 in Taiwan. A total of 176 stool samples were collected from children with AGE for this stu

To assess the impact of human bocavirus (HBoV) virus load on epidemiologic and clinical characteristics in children with lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI). Clinical records of a total of 654 patients with HBoV infection during January 2013 and December 2014 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with high HBoV virus load infection had a similar age distribution with the total HBoV infection, which had a peak age group of 6-24 months. Patients with high virus load are significantly younger (P < 0.01) than those with low load. The patients who had wheeze and tachypnea/dyspnea at presenta

Human bocavirus (HBoV) is a newly identified human parvovirus that associated with respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases. Epidemiological surveillance of HBoV was conducted on fecal specimens collected from hospitalized children with diarrhea in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2011. Among a total of 222 fecal specimens tested, 17 (7.7%) were positive for HBoV by PCR. Of the 17 HBoV positive samples, double- or triple-infections together with other enteric viruses were found in 10 (58.8%) pediatric patients, while monoinfection with HBoV alone was detected in seven (41.2%) cases. Mixed infection am

BACKGROUND: Human Bocavirus (HBoV), a new species of the genus parvovirus newly detected in 2005, seems to be a worldwide distributed pathogen among children with respiratory tract infection (prevalence 2%-18%). Recently published retrospective studies and one prospective birth cohort study suggest that HBoV-primary infection occurs in infants.
METHODS: Prospective single center study over one winter season (November 2005-May 2006) with hospitalized children without age restriction using PCR-based diagnostic methods.
RESULTS: HBoV DNA was detected in 11 (2.8%) of 389 nasopharyngeal aspirates

Human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1), first identified in human nasopharyngeal specimens in 2005, is a relatively recent member of the respiratory virus family and is primarily associated with respiratory tract infections. Despite this, the mechanisms underlying HBoV1 pathogenesis remain poorly understood, primarily due to the lack of suitable cell lines and animal models, as well as the complicating factor of co-infections with other pathogens. In this study, we demonstrate that the non-structural protein 1 (NP1) of HBoV1 antagonizes the type I interferon (IFN-I) signaling pathway. NP1 interacts with th
