The Invasive Species Reynoutria japonica Houtt. as a Promising Natural Agent for Cardiovascular and Digestive System Illness.

Polygoni Cuspidati Rhizoma et Radix, the dry roots and stems of Reynoutria japonica Houtt (called Huzhang, HZ in Chinese), is a traditional and popular chinese medicinal herb for thousands of years. As a widely used ethnomedicine in Asia including China, Japan, and Korea, HZ can invigorate the blood, cool heat, and resolve toxicity, which is commonly used in the treatment of favus, jaundice, scald, and constipation. However, HZ is now considered an invasive plant in the United States and many European countries. Therefore, in order to take advantage of HZ and solve the problem of biological in

Papaverine, a promising therapeutic agent for the treatment of COVID-19 patients with underlying cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).

The causative agent of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), enters the host cells via an angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)-mediated endocytosis-dependent manner. Because ACE2 is highly expressed in the heart, SARS-CoV-2 can severely infect heart tissue and arteries, causing acute and chronic damage to the cardiovascular system. Therefore, special attention should be paid to finding appropriate agents to protect this vital system during COVID-19 treatment. Papaverine is a unique vasodilator alkaloid that is clinically used in th

Effects of anti-inflammatory agents on cardiovascular outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Inflammation is causally implicated in the development and progression of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, but clinical trials of anti-inflammatory therapies have yielded inconsistent effects on cardiovascular outcomes. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the cardiovascular efficacy and safety of a broad range of anti-inflammatory agents. Medline, Embase and Cochrane databases were searched from inception to 08 October 2024 for randomised controlled trials evaluating the effect of anti-inflammatory therapies on a primary cardiovascular ou

G-protein coupled receptor antagonists-1: protease activated receptor-1 (PAR-1) antagonists as novel cardiovascular therapeutic agents.

Inhibition of thrombin receptor (PAR-1) is a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of various cardiovascular disorders such as unstable angina, acute myocardial infarction, stroke, and restenosis. Since a PAR-1 antagonist is specific for the cellulalr actions of thrombin, and does not interfere with fibrin generation, it is expected to have less bleeding liability than the currently available treatments. Several peptide and non-peptide PAR-1 antagonists with potent inhibition of platelet aggregation have been reported. Antithrombotic effect of a PAR-1 antibody has been demonstrated

Design, synthesis and mechanistic study of novel diarylpyrazole derivatives as anti-inflammatory agents with reduced cardiovascular side effects.

Novel diarylpyrazole (5a-d, 6a-e, 12, 13, 14, 15a-c and 11a-g) derivatives were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their dual COX-2/sEH inhibitory activities via recombinant enzyme assays to explore their anti-inflammatory activities and cardiovascular safety profiles. Comprehensively, the structures of the synthesized compounds were established via spectral and elemental analyses, followed by the assessment of both their in vitro COX inhibitory and in vivo anti-inflammatory activities. The most active compounds as COX inhibitors were further evaluated for their in vitro 5-LOX and sEH inh

Cardiovascular safety of oncologic agents: a double-edged sword even in the era of targeted therapies - Part 2.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with cancer are subject to the cardiotoxic effects of cancer therapy. Improved cancer treatments lead to more cancer-survivors, who though are exposed to various forms of cardiovascular (CV) disease (CVD) as they age. Aging patients are at increased risk of developing both malignancy and CVD or they may have survived some form of CVD as a result of effective CV treatments. Furthermore, patients with CVD may develop cancer and require treatment (and vice versa), all contributing to increased morbidity and mortality. The prevalence of both malignancy and CVD will increase

Antiviral Therapy Reduces Dyslipidemia and Cardiovascular Risk in Chronic Hepatitis B: TDF as the Most Effective Agent.

Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) requires long-term antiviral therapy, but its broader effects on metabolic and cardiovascular outcomes remain underexplored. This nationwide retrospective cohort study aimed to evaluate the impact of antiviral therapy on dyslipidemia and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in CHB patients. Using the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment database, we identified 441 191 patients, of whom 48 606 received antiviral treatment and were matched 1:1 with untreated controls by propensity score. Antiviral therapy was associated with significantly lower incidence

From assistance to autonomy: AI agent systems in cardiovascular medicine-a review of paradigms, architectures, and clinical translation.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular medicine faces persistent implementation gaps driven by workforce shortages, fragmented data systems, and the cognitive burden of complex clinical decision-making-structural constraints that limit the delivery of guideline-directed care. Artificial intelligence (AI) is transitioning from isolated predictive models toward autonomous agent systems capable of perceiving, reasoning, and acting in clinical environments, offering a potential pathway to address these challenges. OBJECTIVE: This review synthesizes current evidence on AI agent systems in cardiovascular medic

A global analysis of national cardiovascular disease control plans using a multi-agent artificial intelligence model.

Cardiovascular diseases cause nearly one-third of global deaths, yet standalone National Cardiovascular Disease Control Plans remain uncommon and inconsistently structured. We assessed the comprehensiveness of recent national plans using a validated health-systems framework and a multi-agent artificial intelligence model. We identified the most recent official plan for 45 countries from World Health Organisation and World Heart Federation repositories and government sources. We adapted a health-systems planning framework for cardiovascular disease and validated it through a two-stage expert co

Characterizing extravascular lung water-A dual-contrast agent extracellular volume approach by cardiovascular magnetic resonance.

BACKGROUND: Pathological extravascular lung water is a facet of decompensated congestive heart failure that current cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) methods fail to quantify. CMR can measure total lung water density, but cannot distinguish between intravascular and extravascular fluid, and thus is not diagnostic. Therefore, we develop and evaluate a novel method to measure extravascular lung water by distinguishing intravascular from extracellular fluid compartments using two different contrast agents, extracellular gadolinium chelates and iron-based intravascular ferumoxytol. METHODS:

Cardiovascular risk according to biological agent exposure in patients with ankylosing spondylitis: a nationwide population-based study.

OBJECTIVES: Patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) have a higher risk of cardiovascular events than controls. Although biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) are efficacious in treating AS, their effect on cardiovascular risk remains unclear. This study evaluated the effect of tumour necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFis) and interleukin-17 inhibitors (IL-17is) on cardiovascular risk in patients with AS. METHODS: Data of 43,502 patients diagnosed with AS from 2010 onwards and without prior history of cardiovascular events were extracted from the Korean nationwide database.
