[Somatosensory cortical stimulus response evoked potentials in unilateral symptoms caused by cerebrovascular disorders or brain tumors].

Comparative investigations of somatosensory evoked potentials in 23 patients with hemisyndromes following acute ischemia of the middle cerebral artery region and in 12 patients with similar hemisyndromes on the base of cerebral neoplasms revealed marked differences. Whereas in 87% of the patients with ischemic lesions the primary cortical complex of the SEP was severely altered there were similar abnormalities in only one of the patients with neoplasm. The SEP changes were not dependent on the neurologic (sensory) symptoms nor on focal or diffuse EEG abnormalities.

[The risk factors of cerebrovascular disorders in the vertebro-basilar zone in the persons belonging to the flying staff].

The investigation of cerebral hemodynamics in 318 pilots with the use of ultrasonic dopplerography and transcranial dopplerography has shown that the earliest and most frequent manifestations of cerebrovascular disorders are observed in the vertebrobasilar zone (VBZ). The significant indices characterizing the morphofunctional condition of cerebral arteries are the results of triplex scanning of the main vessels. The pathologic changes in VBZ arteries, the variants of abnormal disposition of vertebral arteries, the secondary changes connected with extravasal effect are often detected during th

Results of videokinesiography in patients with a complicated course of acute cerebrovascular disorder by hemitype in the recovery period.

UNLABELLED: Restoration of the masticatory function is one of the key elements in the comprehensive rehabilitation for patients with acute cerebrovascular disorders (ACVD) of various degrees, as their consequences may include an impaired coordinated action of the neuromuscular system, and the dentoalveolar system in particular. In this context, the clinical presentation of stroke is characterized by motor and sensory deficiencies, which can eventually lead to dysfunction of the masticatory muscles, tongue, lips, soft palate and pharynx. The bilateral difference between such disorders, manifest

Genetic epidemiology of moyamoya disease and CADASIL in over 120,000 healthy Korean individuals: Insights into cerebrovascular disorders.

BACKGROUND: East Asia has one of the highest global stroke burdens. Genetically, moyamoya disease (MMD) and cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) contribute to this burden. This study investigated the allele frequencies and estimated the genetic prevalence of RNF213 and NOTCH3 variants in a large Korean population. METHODS: Between July 2021 and August 2024, 129,933 individuals who underwent health checkups were included. RNF213 p.Arg4810Lys and three NOTCH3 variants, p.Arg544Cys, p.Arg640Cys, and p.Arg75Pro, were analyzed using n

Caregiving concerns and clinical characteristics across neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular disorders in the Ontario neurodegenerative disease research initiative.

OBJECTIVES: Caregiving burdens are a substantial concern in the clinical care of persons with neurodegenerative disorders. In the Ontario Neurodegenerative Disease Research Initiative, we used the Zarit's Burden Interview (ZBI) to examine: (1) the types of burdens captured by the ZBI in a cross-disorder sample of neurodegenerative conditions (2) whether there are categorical or disorder-specific effects on caregiving burdens, and (3) which demographic, clinical, and cognitive measures are related to burden(s) in neurodegenerative disorders? METHODS/DESIGN: N = 504 participants and their study

Ambient Air Pollution Increases the Risk of Cerebrovascular and Neuropsychiatric Disorders through Induction of Inflammation and Oxidative Stress.

Exposure to ambient air pollution is a well-established determinant of health and disease. The Lancet Commission on pollution and health concludes that air pollution is the leading environmental cause of global disease and premature death. Indeed, there is a growing body of evidence that links air pollution not only to adverse cardiorespiratory effects but also to increased risk of cerebrovascular and neuropsychiatric disorders. Despite being a relatively new area of investigation, overall, there is mounting recent evidence showing that exposure to multiple air pollutants, in particular to fin

Special topic section: linkages among cerebrovascular, cardiovascular, and cognitive disorders: Preventing dementia by preventing stroke: The Berlin Manifesto.

The incidence of stroke and dementia are diverging across the world, rising for those in low-and middle-income countries and falling in those in high-income countries. This suggests that whatever factors cause these trends are potentially modifiable. At the population level, neurological disorders as a group account for the largest proportion of disability-adjusted life years globally (10%). Among neurological disorders, stroke (42%) and dementia (10%) dominate. Stroke and dementia confer risks for each other and share some of the same, largely modifiable, risk and protective factors. [Detection of the pathology of the major cerebral arteries in transient disorders of cerebrovascular circulation using Doppler ultrasonography].

One hundred and six males aged 40-59 were examined generally, neurologically and using ultrasonic dopplerography within one month following an emergency call for transitory ischemic attacks, hypertensive cerebral crises. Ultrasound signs of arterial lesions were recorded in 79.2% of the examinees. Hemodynamic disturbances occurred most frequently (50.9%). Arterial stenosis was diagnosed in 27.4% of cases. With growing number of risk factors, the incidence of major arteries lesions was on the increase.

Accelerated decline in motor suppression in patients with cerebrovascular disorders: A kinetic analysis using the square-tracing task.

BACKGROUND: Patients with cerebrovascular disorders (CVDs) tend to exhibit impulsive behaviour without controlling their movements, leading to difficulty in performing activities of daily living and an increased risk of accidents. This hastiness, termed 'pacing impairment', has been studied but is not fully understood. OBJECTIVE: To experimentally examine the kinetic features of pacing impairment by focusing on changes in speed and investigating neuropsychological substrates. METHODS: We instructed 53 inpatients with CVDs, 20 orthopaedic inpatients, and 20 healthy participants to trace a 200

New functional electronic stimulation device for acute cerebrovascular disorder treatment: A preliminary prospective study.

OBJECTIVE: Patients with cerebrovascular disease tend to exhibit patterned hemiplegia, such as the Wernicke-Mann posture. Delayed cessation of synkinesis is a major factor impeding hemiplegic recovery; however, effective rehabilitation for acute synkinesis has not been established. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of a novel treatment using a low-frequency therapeutic device for the cessation of synkinesis in patients with incomplete paralysis and cerebrovascular disease. DESIGN: Single-arm, open-label study. SUBJECTS/PATIENTS: The study included patients aged ≥20 ye

Carotid free-floating thrombus in COVID-19: a cerebrovascular disorder of cytokine storm-related immunothrombosis.

BACKGROUNDS: Several neurological manifestations, including stroke, have been reported in COVID-19 patients. The putative role of the COVID-19-related hyperinflammatory state in cerebrovascular disorders remains unclear. METHODS: From March 2020 to September 2021, we searched for patients who exhibited an ischemic stroke related to carotid free-floating thrombus (CFFT) to investigate its incidence and relationship with COVID-19. RESULTS: Of 853 ischemic strokes referred to our Stroke Centre during the study period, 5.7% (n = 49) were positive for SARS-CoV-2. Six had CFFT, of which two tested

Cerebrovascular reactivity is blunted in young adults with major depressive disorder: The influence of current depressive symptomology.

BACKGROUND: In middle-aged adults with depression, cerebral vasodilatory reactivity is blunted; however, this has not been examined in treatment-naïve young adults with major depressive disorder (MDD). We tested the hypothesis that cerebrovascular reactivity would be blunted in young adults (18-30 yrs) with MDD compared to healthy non-depressed adults (HA) and would be attenuated to a greater extent in adults with symptomatic MDD (sMDD) compared to adults with MDD in remission (euthymic MDD; eMDD). METHODS: Sixteen adults with MDD [21±3yrs; n = 8 sMDD (6 women); n = 8 eMDD (5 women)] and 14 H

Cognitive Gains of Aerobic Exercise in Patients With Ischemic Cerebrovascular Disorder: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: Cognitive impairment has become an important problem in ischemic cerebrovascular disorder survivors as disease related deaths have been significantly reduced. Aerobic exercise, the most prevalent mode of physical activity, positively contributes to cognition in both healthy population and people with cognitive impairment. However, studies on its associations with cognitive gains in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease showed mixed findings. Objective: To explore the cognitive effects of aerobic exercise on ischemic cerebrovascular disorder survivors and investigate the po
