Chlorogenic acid promotes liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy through activating Nrf2 via directly targeting Keap1.

Liver regeneration (LR) is crucial for liver function recovery, but there is still no effective treatment to promote LR. Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is the main active compound of Eucommia ulmoides Oliv., which is traditionally recorded to possess liver tonifying function. Our results revealed that CGA promoted LR in mice performed with 90% and 70% partial hepatectomy (PHx). CGA activated nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) through interacting with kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) during LR process. Nrf2 activation initiated the mRNA expression of E2 promoter binding facto

Chlorogenic Acid Ameliorates CVB3-Induced Viral Myocarditis by Suppressing Viral Replication and ZBP1-Mediated PANoptosis.

Viral myocarditis (VMC), predominantly driven by Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) infection and the resultant excessive immune response, lacks effective treatments and specific antiviral drugs in clinical practice. Chlorogenic acid (CGA) has been proven to have significant antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. This study evaluated the potential and mechanism of action of CGA against CVB3-induced viral myocarditis. Our research results showed that CGA significantly alleviated myocardial tissue damage in vivo. This protective effect was accompanied by effective inhibition of myocardial inflammator

Chlorogenic acid attenuates LPS-induced hepatic oxidative stress in broilers by regulating cyclooxygenase-2 expression.

Immune stress can impair growth performance and induce hepatic oxidative injury; however, the protective potential and underlying mechanisms of the dietary phenolic compound chlorogenic acid (CGA) remain unclear. In this study, we investigated whether CGA alleviates lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced hepatic oxidative damage in broilers and explored the involvement of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Since LPS challenge markedly upregulated PTGS2 (encoding COX-2) and COX-2 is closely associated with redox homeostasis, the selective COX-2 inhibitor celecoxib was included as a pharmacological comparator

Chlorogenic Acid Ameliorates Chronic Unpredictable Stress-Induced Diminished Ovarian Reserve Through Ovarian Renin-Angiotensin System.

Chronic stress could impair ovarian reserve through hyperactivation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, leading to reduced oocyte quality and endocrine dysfunction. The ovarian renin-angiotensin system (OVRAS) modulates follicular development, and excessive activation of the ACE-AngII-AT1R axis increases oxidative stress, disrupting ovarian function. This study investigates OVRAS's role in chronic unpredictable stress (CUS)-induced diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) and explores the protective effects of chlorogenic acid (CGA). Female mice were subjected to CUS (10 intervention met

Molecularly imprinted polymers-ZnS quantum dots based composite sensor for optical detection of chlorogenic acid.

Chlorogenic acid (CGA), a key phenolic acid found in coffee, fruits, vegetables, and herbs, has significant pharmacological activities, necessitating its accurate detection in complex matrices. In this study, an organic acrylate molecularly imprinted polymers-chitosan modified zinc sulphide quantum dots/polydopamine (MIPs-CS:ZnS QDs/PDA) based composite sensor for the detection of CGA has been designed. In MIPs shell, CGA served as template and 4-vinylpyridine and methacrylic acid as functional monomers, azobisisobutyronitrile acting as the initiator and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the c

Chlorogenic Acid Modulates Autophagy by Inhibiting the Activity of ALKBH5 Demethylase, Thereby Ameliorating Hepatic Steatosis.

Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is a naturally occurring plant component with the purpose of alleviating hepatic lipid deposition biological activities. However, the molecular mechanism behind this ability of CGA remains unelucidated. Consequently, we investigated the effect of CGA on hepatic lipid accumulation and elucidated its underlying mechanism. Our study used a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced mouse nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) model in mice to investigate the impact of CGA on hepatic lipid accumulation. The results revealed that the oral administration of CGA can ameliorate HFD-induced h

Chlorogenic Acid Inhibits Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition and Invasion of Breast Cancer by Down-Regulating LRP6.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a crucial biologic process for breast cancer metastasis, and inhibition of EMT could be an effective approach to suppress metastatic potential of mammary cancer. High expression of low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 6 (LRP6) is usually observed in breast carcinoma and predicts poor prognosis. In the present study, we investigated whether chlorogenic acid (CA) can inhibit the EMT of breast cancer cells and underlying molecular mechanism. We found that CA treatment transformed MCF-7 cell morphology from spindle shape (mesenchymal phenotype

Chlorogenic acid co-administration abates tamoxifen-mediated reproductive toxicities in male rats: An experimental approach.

Reports over the years have demonstrated toxic side effect-including reproductive toxicity- of tamoxifen (TAM), a drug of choice in the management of primary breast cancer. Chlorogenic acid (CGA), a dietary polyphenol, reportedly elicits beneficial pharmacological effects. However, the impact of CGA on TAM-associated reproductive toxicity is absent in the literature. We, therefore, experimented on CGA's effect and TAM-mediated reproductive toxicity in rats. Cohorts of rats were treated with TAM (50 mg/kg) or co-treated with CGA (25 or 50 mg/kg) for 14 consecutive days. The result showed that t

Antibacterial activity of chlorogenic acid-loaded SiO2 nanoparticles caused by accumulation of reactive oxygen species.

Diseases caused by pathogenic bacilli pose an increasing threat to human health. A common feature of these bacteria is a complete cell wall; therefore, drugs that can penetrate this protective barrier could be used as a novel approach for treating these infections. Here we present a simple method for synthesizing a silica mesoporous material loaded with cadmium selenide (CdSe) and chlorogenic acid. Using UV-visible, fluorescence, and infrared imaging in combination with transmission electron microscopy, it was shown that CdSe and chlorogenic acid could be successfully embedded in the mesopores

Chlorogenic Acid Alleviates Thiram-Induced Tibial Dyschondroplasia by Modulating Caspases, BECN1 Expression and ECM Degradation.

Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is a widely applied traditional Chinese medicine ingredient which can be used for the treatment of osteoporosis. In this experiment, we investigated the potential therapeutic effect of chlorogenic acid on thiram-induced tibial dyschondroplasia (TD) and explored the underlying mechanisms that have been rarely mentioned by others yet. Performance indicator analysis and tibial parameter analysis showed that CGA exhibited a definite positive effect on thiram-induced TD chickens. In order to further explore the mechanisms underlying the positive actions of CGA, apoptotic, aut

Systemic Neuroprotection by Chlorogenic Acid: Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Evaluation in Early Neurodegeneration Induced by 3-Nitropropionic Acid in Mice.

Neurodegeneration is characterized by the progressive loss of neurons commonly attributed to neurological causes. Studies published over the past two decades suggest that neurodegeneration may occur due to systemic diseases that compromise energy metabolism throughout the body. This metabolic imbalance develops over decades before neurodegeneration is clinically documented or inferred. It is now accepted that long-lasting oxidative stress and inflammation link neurodegeneration with altered energy metabolism in the body. Systemic prevention of these factors may reduce the odds of developing ne

Chlorogenic Acid Improves Salicylic Acid-Induced Cochlear Injury by Reducing Oxidative Stress and Inflammatory Response Through TLR4/NF-κB Signalling Pathway.

BACKGROUND: Sodium salicylate (SS) causes hearing damage and tinnitus in humans and animals. Chlorogenic acid (CGA) has strong antioxidant and anti-apoptotic effects, but whether it can protect the cochlea is unknown. METHODS: SS was used to induce cochlear injury in rats, followed by 150, 300 and 600 mg/kg CGA treatment. The changes of tinnitus behaviour in each group were detected by auditory brainstem response (ABR), behavioural test, beam balance, Preyer reflex and auditory startle test. The levels of oxidative stress and inflammation were detected by kit. The pathological damage of cochl

Silk fibroin loaded carbon point-chlorogenic acid complex hydrogel for photothermal/antioxidant therapy of diabetic wound.

Diabetic wound healing poses a significant clinical challenge, primarily due to bacterial infection and persistent inflammation mediated by excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS). To address this issue, we developed a nanocomposite named Carbon quantum dot-chlorogenic acid (CD-C), which integrates synergistic antibacterial and antioxidant functionalities to promote diabetic wound healing. CD were synthesized via a facile method using cost-effective precursors, citric acid and urea, and subsequently combined with chlorogenic acid to form a nanocomposite system capable of simultaneous photother
