Chondroblastoma-like chondroma (CLC) of soft tissue is a rare benign neoplasm that usually involves the soft tissues of the hand. This report describes the first case of CLC of soft tissue arising in the base of the skull. A 33-year-old man was seen with a slow growing mass in the right parotid region of his face. The noncontrast computed tomographic scans showed an 8.5-cm mass with calcifications involving the right masticator space and extending through the bone into the middle cranial fossa. The radiologic differential diagnosis included osteosarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, and gia

Introduction. Chondroblastoma has a wide range of differential diagnosis encompassing various benign and malignant entities. The closest differential diagnosis is giant cell tumor of the bone due to overlapping radiological and histomorphological features. Extensive aneurysmal bone cyst like changes and lack of adequately sampled chondroid matrix often masquerades the primary bone lesion and amplifies the diagnostic difficulty in small biopsies with limited tissue. Immunohistochemistry is helpful in such instances to resolve the diagnostic dilemma. Objectives. To analyze the immunohistochemica

PURPOSE: Chondroblastoma is a cartilaginous neoplasm which rarely presents in the spine, where it has been shown to exhibit aggressive behavior. We present a case of a late diagnosis of a T12 chondroblastoma causing paraparesis in an 11-year-old girl. Several missed classical radiographic and clinical features are highlighted.
METHODS: We reviewed clinical, imaging, and pathology data from the time of transfer to our institution, followed by review of all outside clinical records and imaging data from 14 months prior to admission until onset of paraplegia.
RESULTS: The patient was transferre

AIMS: Chondroblastomas (CB) are rare bone tumours that typically arise in the epiphysis/apophysis of long bones in skeletally immature patients. We explore the clinicopathological features of CB presenting in adults.
METHODS AND RESULTS: CB in patients ≥20 years of age were retrieved from our institutional archives. Thirty-nine CB were identified (29 male/10 female; aged 20-54 years). Twenty (51%) cases occurred in long tubular bones, 10 (26%) in small bones of the feet, five (13%) in flat bones and four (10%) in the patella. All cases showed classic cytological features of CB, and chondroid

Chondroblastoma is a rare benign tumor, consisting of tissue resembling foetal cartilage, and arising in the epiphyses, or apophyses of long tubular bone. However, chondroblastoma of the cortex of the long bone metaphysis is extremely rare.A 15-year-old girl presented a 10-month history of intermittent knee pain and without mobility limitation. X ray, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a slightly expansile lytic lesion involving the metaphyseal cortex of the left distal femur. During histological examination, typical features of chondroblastoma were observed.

BACKGROUND: Chondroblastoma is a rare benign cartilaginous tumor, which primarily occurs in children and adolescents. Chondroblastoma commonly originates in the epiphyseal plate of long bones. An aggressive curettage treatment is recommended to manage lesion, which may jeopardize an open epiphyseal plate and result in limb shortening and deformity as the limb grows and develops. The purpose is to observe surgical effects of chondroblastoma on open epiphyseal plate of long bones in children and adolescents and explore influences on limb growth and development.
METHODS: We retrospectively revie

This case highlights a rare possibility of occurrence of chondroblastoma, a bony tumor, at an uncommon location. Extraosseous, soft tissue location of this bony tumor is rare and more so for intracranial intra-axial location. We report a case of an intra-axial frontal lobe lesion, histologically proven to be an extraosseous chondroblastoma. A 23-year-old male presented with a history of headache and vomiting of 1 month duration. Imaging was suggestive of left frontal lobe intra-axial calcified lesion suggestive of oligodendroglioma. Patient was operated upon by left frontal craniotomy with com

BACKGROUND: Aggressive chondroblastoma of the distal tibia is rare, and below-knee amputation had been the standard surgical procedure.
CASE PRESENTATION: We reported an additional case and reviewed the existing literature. A 20-year-old man with a 2-month history of right ankle pain and swelling underwent distal tibia wide resection, double pedicle fibular, autogenous iliac bone graft, and ankle arthrodesis. He had no pain, no limitation in daily activities, and no evidence of local recurrence and infection; the Musculoskeletal Tumour Society Score (MSTS) is 86% at the final follow-up.

BACKGROUND: A chondroblastoma is a primary benign bone tumor typically involving the epiphysis of long tubular bones. The occurrence of chondroblastoma in the vertebral column is exceptional. To the best of our knowledge, aspiration biopsy (AB) findings of a lumbar chondroblastoma have only been reported in 1 previous case.
CASE: A 30-year-old female presented with lower back pain with a duration of 1 month. A CT scan of the 4th lumbar vertebra showed a heterogeneous lytic zone within the body and the right side pedicle surrounded by marginal sclerosis. A CT-fluoroscopy-guided AB was performe

Chondroblastoma of the metacarpal bone has been extremely rare and only seven cases have been reported in the English literature. Here we reported the eighth case of a chondroblastoma that developed on the first metacarpal bone of the right hand of a 21-year-old man. Radiographs showed an expansile osteolytic lesion with a multilocular appearance. In MR images, the lesion showed low intensity in T1 and high intensity in T2-weighted images with multiple fluid-fluid levels, which are findings resembling those of an aneurysmal bone cyst. From the pathological findings, however, it was recognized

Secondary aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC)-like changes are a well-recognized phenomenon observed in a variety of primary bone tumors that can pose diagnostic difficulties. We have investigated the role of H3.3 K36 M immunohistochemistry for the diagnosis of patients with chondroblastoma of bone in which extensive secondary ABC-like changes masked the underlying tumor. A total of 25 patients with bone tumors showing equivocal histologic and radiologic features of chondroblastoma were identified in the files of the respective institutions. The patients included 4 women and 21 men, aged 12-36 years (a

Chondroblastomas represent less than 1% of all bone tumors. They are currently classified as benign neoplasms and "benign lung implants" have been described. Exceedingly rare case of malignant chondroblastomas have been published, and only three of them have scalp metastases. We present the case of a 57-year-old healthy man who noticed a rapidly growing mass on his left chest. Radiological imaging revealed an 8 cm expansile and lytic lesion located in the anterior segment of the sixth costal arch with a thinned cortex without periosteal reaction. The tumor was removed with wide margins. Seven

Chondroblastoma is a rare benign bone tumor that typically arises in the epiphysis. The primary treatment strategy involves complete curettage of the lesion. However, there is limited literature regarding the management of chondroblastoma specifically located in the femoral head. Following simple curettage alone, the femoral head is prone to collapse due to injury to the growth plate and the effects of weight-bearing stress. Arthrodiastasis can provide a conducive environment for healing and remodeling of the necrotic or grafted femoral head by maintaining continuous distraction of the hip joi

The treatment of chondroblastoma in the epiphysis of the femoral head in skeletally immature individuals is challenging and often requires surgical hip dislocation. We present a unique method of percutaneous use of an expandable reamer (X-REAM, Wright Medical) to treat a chondroblastoma of the femoral head in a 9-year-old boy without requiring surgical hip dislocation. The described technique provides access to the tumor in the proximal femoral epiphysis and local tumor control. However, the approach involves placing a cannula through the epiphyseal plate, resulting in partial premature epiphy

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Chondroblastoma is difficult to treat as the tumor is surrounded by both articular cartilage and the epiphyseal plate. The differences in joint shape further complicate the problem. This retrospective study evaluates the efficacy of intraregional aggressive curettage and allogeneic bone grafting for treating chondroblastoma of the adjoining knee joint.
METHODS: From February 2010 to February 2017, 36 patients with chondroblastoma of the adjoining knee joint were identified. All patients were treated with intraregional aggressive curettage, phenolization, and allogene

Chondroblastoma is a rare, giant cell-rich, benign neoplasm of bone. Since the past few decades fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) has gained momentum in preoperative diagnosis of bone lesions. At cytology, other giant cell-rich tumors and tumorlike lesions such as aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC), giant cell tumor, and chondromyxoid fibroma fall under the differential diagnosis of chondroblastoma. Due to the difference in the treatment protocol and prognosis, preoperative diagnosis is mandatory. We describe the cytomorphology in two cases of chondroblastoma diagnosed at FNAC and confirmed by hi

Specific H3F3A driver mutations and IDH2 mutations were recently described in giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) and H3F3B driver mutations in chondroblastoma; these may be helpful as a diagnostic tool for giant cell-containing tumors of the bone. Using Sanger sequencing, we determined the frequency of H3F3A, H3F3B, IDH1, and IDH2 mutations in GCTBs (n=60), chondroblastomas (n=12), and other giant cell-containing tumors (n=24), including aneurysmal bone cyst, chondromyxoid fibroma, and telangiectatic osteosarcoma. To find an easy applicable marker for H3F3A mutation status, H3K36 trimethylation a

BACKGROUND: Chondroblastomas are rare, benign, locally aggressive lesions that appear in the epiphysis. Surgery for femoral head chondroblastoma (FHCB) is difficult. Conventional treatment with curettage via a drilled tunnel along the femoral neck can damage the growth plate and is associated with high local recurrence rates. The trapdoor procedure, which directly facilitates lesion access from the femoral head articular surface, can reduce local recurrence and avoid growth plate damage, although it requires surgical dislocation. Little is known about the long-term results of this direct artic
