Extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma is a rare subtype of sarcoma that affects the soft tissue and bones in middle-aged and elderly adults. Its diagnosis can be challenging, with the differential diagnoses including a wide variety of mesenchymal tumors. The line of differentiation of extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma has been controversial, but recent evidence suggests a neuroendocrine phenotype. INSM1 is a zinc-finger transcription factor that plays a pivotal role in neuroendocrine differentiation, and has been proposed as a promising immunohistochemical marker of neuroendocrine carcinoma. T

In an effort to investigate the utility of immunostaining for S-100 protein in the differential diagnosis of chondroblastoma, the expression of S-100 protein in nine chondroblastomas was compared with that in six giant cell tumors, six aneurysmal bone cysts, four giant cell reparative granulomas, six cases of fibrous dysplasia, two cases of osteitis fibrosa cystica, two nonossifying fibromas, and one clear cell chondrosarcoma. Five enchondromas, three typical chondrosarcomas, and one mesenchymal chondrosarcoma were also included as control tumors. The proliferating stromal cells in seven of th

Evaluation of a series of 12 chordoid sarcomas suggests that there is a wider range of histological features in this entity then previously appreciated. Six of the lesions had a typical tumor cell organization and a mixture of cellular and myxoid stromal components, while the remaining cases were atypical because of a more solid growth pattern. Four of the 12 cases, that included both typically myxoid and more cellular examples, had small foci with hyalinized stroma segragating individual or small groups of tumor cells with and without lacunar spaces. Two atypical cases revealed more extensive

The development of neoplasms in giant anteaters (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) is poorly documented, with most studies focused on non-neoplastic changes. This report describes a case of chondrosarcoma in a 15-year-old male captive giant anteater that presented with lameness for approximately 6 months, locomotion difficulties and swelling of the left thoracic limb. After review of a radiograph, humane euthanasia was decided due to the poor prognosis and quality of life. At necropsy, a 17 × 20 × 13 cm mass was seen to project from the humeroradioulnar joint of the left thoracic limb. The mass was whi

Chondrosarcomas are rare mesenchymal neoplasms defined by the production of abnormal cartilaginous matrix. Conventional chondrosarcoma is the most common histology. The management of primary conventional chondrosarcoma generally is surgical with the possible addition of radiation therapy. Treatment of conventional chondrosarcoma is problematic in unresectable or metastatic disease because the tumors tend to be resistant to standard sarcoma chemotherapy regimens. Previous attempts at targeted therapy, including inhibitors of Hedgehog signaling, the mTOR pathway, and platelet-derived growth fact

Chondrosarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal tumour of cartilaginous origin. It represents 11% of all malignant primary bone tumours, and the pelvis, ribs, femur and humerus are most frequently involved. Chondrosarcoma of the head and neck region is a rare disease, and represents approximately 0.1% of all head and neck neoplasms. This report describes a rare localisation of chondrosarcoma in a 56-year-old man who presented with swelling in the right preauricular area and mild limitation and pain in the mouth opening. Since 1959, just a few cases of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) chondrosarcoma hav

Cartilage and bone-forming tumors of the mediastinum are extremely rare neoplasms with very few cases having been reported in the literature. We studied six cases of primary malignant cartilaginous tumors presenting as extraskeletal soft tissue masses in the posterior mediastinum. The patients were five women and one man aged 11 to 63 years (median, 31 years). Histologically, the lesions showed a spectrum of features that ranged from mesenchymal chondrosarcoma, to extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma, to moderately well to poorly differentiated chondrosarcoma. In all cases, the lesions presente

BACKGROUND: Dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma is the most aggressive subtype of chondrosarcoma; however, imaging features that independently distinguish it from other subtypes remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to identify independent imaging predictors of long bone dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma to signal for expedited biopsy and treatment.
METHODS: This retrospective study incorporated consecutive patients undergoing resection at a tertiary center for primary intramedullary long bone chondrosarcoma between February 2001 and January 2024. Inclusion required preoperative MRI and pos

BACKGROUND: Chondrosarcoma is a mesenchymal malignant tumor composed of tumor cells producing cartilage. It is more commonly found in older age group and usually affects the axial skeleton. Intracranial chondrosarcoma is extremely rare, and chondrosarcoma arising from the sellar region are even rarer with only a few cases described in the literature. We report a case of chondrosarcoma mimicking a sellar suprasellar mass with parasellar extension.

An elderly gentleman presented with bilateral pulmonary nodules found incidentally during the workup of acute pancreatitis. He did not have any respiratory or urogenital symptoms. A biopsy of the lung nodule revealed myxoid mesenchymal neoplasm of extraosseous origin. As the patient was asymptomatic, only the increased uptake in the penile shaft base on the whole-body PET-CT study yielded a diagnosis of primary penile chondrosarcoma after biopsy. A rare presentation of chondrosarcoma in an elderly gentleman highlighting the importance of obtaining a histopathological specimen, as the prognosis

Chondrosarcoma is the most common mesenchymal tumor of the larynx and approximately 200 cases have been collected in the world medical literature. It is less aggressive in the larynx than elsewhere: cervical or distant metastases are rare (8.5%), and although local recurrences are not uncommon, they are not catastrophic. A retrospective study was made on eight cases of laryngeal chondrosarcoma. Three cases had originally been diagnosed as idiopathic vocal cord paralysis, possibly because of early involvement of the cricoarytenoid joint or the distal portion of the recurrent nerve. This fact em

44 chondrosarcomas were collected during a 22-year period. 40 were classic, 3 mesenchymal, and 1 clear-cell chondrosarcoma. Five (12,5%) were secondary, arising in enchondromatosis, osteochondromatosis and solitary osteochondroma. All the classic chondrosarcomas, initial tumours as well as recurrences, were histologically graded I-III on the basis of cellularity, nuclear size, frequency of lacunae containing multiple nuclei and mitotic rate (Evans). 19 were initially grade I, 14 grade II, and 7 grade III. 18 patients had at least one local recurrence, and 8 of them had 2 or more recurrences. 1

Purpose: The chemotherapy benefit for high-grade chondrosarcoma remains controversial. Ensemble learning has better overall performance than single computational approaches for clinical decision. The primary objective was to select prognostic variables and develop optimal ensemble learning algorithms for survival prediction and analyzing chemotherapy benefit in high-grade chondrosarcoma. The secondary objective included identifying specific patient groups with estimated survival benefit for guidance in chemotherapy strategies. Methods: The data of 1931 patients with chondrosarcoma from 2000 to

BACKGROUND: Intracranial chondroid tumors are infrequently seen in neurosurgical practice. These tumors usually arise from cartilaginous synchondroses at the base of the skull, but occasionally from the pluripotential mesenchymal cells of the meninges. We present here a case of classic low-grade giant chondrosarcoma of the falx cerebri. This is only the second case of this variant reported in this location, and we summarize the diagnostic criteria with a brief review of literature.
CASE REPORT: A 56-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital with a history of progressive right-sided

BACKGROUND: We describe a patient with an intracranial extra skeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma (EMC), an unusual neoplasm of the deep soft tissues of the extremities. Very rarely are they localised as an intracranial lesion, and we believe it is very important to accurately distinguish EMC from other intracranial tumours such as classical or "skeletal" chondrosarcomas, mesenchymal chondrosarcoma, enchondroma, and myxoid tumours (chordoma, and chondromyxoid fibroma) in order to determine their prognostic implications. Furthermore, this case presents with the second local recurrence, higher-grade c

Chondrosarcoma is a highly aggressive malignant tumor originating from cartilaginous and mesenchymal tissues. The aim of this report is to describe a rare case of nasosinusal chondrosarcoma with orbito-cerebral extension. Our patient was a 55-year-old with a right cheek swelling evolving over a year, with unilateral right nasal obstruction gradually becoming bilateral associated with hyposmia, bilateral exophthalmos, reduced bilateral deep visual acuity and permanent headaches. The clinical examination found a tumor obstructing the two nasal cavities. Imaging showed a lobulated heterogeneous t

BACKGROUND: Chondrosarcoma is a malignant tumor that originates from mesenchymal cells that have differentiated into chondrocytes, often growing laterally, rarely seen in the cranium, and seldom seen in the saddle area. We believe that only a few cases have been reported in the literature. We report a case of pituitary fossa chondrosarcoma, which was completely resected by an extended endoscopic endonasal approach, and a literature review.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 20-year-old man was admitted to hospital with bilateral temporal headache and blurred vision, without any history of sexual dysfunction

INTRODUCTION: chondrosarcoma is a high-grade malignant tumor composed of mesenchymal cells with cartilage differentiation. It most frequently appears in the bones of the pelvis, the femur, and the humerus. The main management method is oncological resection with wide margins and function-preserving reconstruction. The prognosis depends on the histologic grade and location of the tumor.
CASE PRESENTATION: we present the case of an adult patient with chondrosarcoma in the right humerus managed in our unit with wide resection and massive allograft reconstruction (limb salvage).
CONCLUSIONS: the
