Ependymal and choroid plexus tumours arise in anatomically related regions. Their intraoperative differential diagnosis is large and depends on factors such as age, tumour site and clinical presentation. Squash cytology can provide valuable information in this context. Cytological features of conventional ependymomas, subependymomas and myxopapillary ependymomas as well as choroid plexus tumours are reviewed and illustrated. Differential diagnostic considerations integrating morphological and clinical information are discussed.

Choroid plexus carcinomas in four dogs (three male, one female) aged small middle 2.5 to 10 years, were examined by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry. The dogs showed progressive neurological signs including ataxia, seizures, vestibular disease and cranial nerve deficits, lasting for several months in some cases. Primary tumours were localized in the lateral (one case), third (one case), and fourth (two cases) ventricles. Hydrocephalus was evident at post-mortem examination in one case. In two cases the neoplastic cells closely resembled the structure of normal choroid plexus, with a d

OBJECTIVE: To present long-term follow-up of a consecutive single-institutional series of patients treated for choroid plexus tumors over 8 decades.
METHODS: From 1939 to 2020, 59 children were treated for choroid plexus tumors. Median age at diagnosis was 1.7 years.
RESULTS: Gross total resection was achieved in 51 patients (86%). Ten patients (17%) underwent >1 resection. During the first 4 decades of the study (1939-1979), 14 patients with plexus papillomas were treated. Operative mortality was 50%, with 6 of the remaining 7 patients experiencing excellent survival with follow-up periods

PURPOSE: Choroid plexus tumors (CPT) are relatively rare CNS tumors that primarily occur in children. They are classified as low-grade choroid plexus papilloma, including atypical ones, and high-grade choroid plexus carcinoma based on histological characteristics. There has been extensive academic research regarding these complex tumors. The goal of this work was to identify the 100 most-cited articles pertaining to CPTs in order to better understand the most impactful studies to date.
METHODS: In August 2023, Elsevier's Scopus database was searched for the 100 most-cited articles about CPT.

BACKGROUND: Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are intraventricular brain tumors predominantly arising in children but also affecting adults. In most cases, driver mutations have not been identified, although there are reports of frequent chromosome-wide copy-number alterations and TP53 mutations, especially in choroid plexus carcinomas (CPCs).
METHODS: DNA methylation profiling and RNA-sequencing was performed in a series of 47 CPTs. Samples comprised 35 choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs), 6 atypical choroid plexus papillomas (aCPPs) and 6 CPCs plus three recurrences thereof. Targeted TP53 and TERT

Meningiomas represent one of the commonest benign neural tissue neoplasms, but it is an extremely rare finding in the oral cavity. It tends to arise from the arachnoid cap cells pertaining to dura matter of the Meninges, the choroid plexus, or the brain stem. Herein, we report the case of a 36-year-old male patient, who visited our Department with the chief complaint of facial swelling associated with asymmetry. Based on thorough clinical, radiological, histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses, a diagnosis of Primary Extracranial Meningioma (PEM) of the Maxilla was made. Later, the t

Endolymphatic sac tumors (ELSTs) are rare, slow-growing neoplasms of the inner ear. Microscopically, they exhibit papillary-cystic and glandular histomorphology, closely resembling their primary differential diagnosis, choroid plexus papilloma (CPP). Through in-depth histological, immunohistochemical, and molecular analysis, we identified distinct characteristics of ELST that facilitate its identification and aid in differentiating it from CPP. Immunohistochemical staining that best discriminated between ELST and CPP included EMA, S-100 protein, EpCAM, cytokeratin, transthyretin, CD34, PTEN, P

The distribution of S-100 proteins was examined in 98 pediatric brain neoplasms with rabbit antiserum to S-100 protein, utilizing the peroxidase-antiperoxidase (PAP) immunohistochemical technique. Positive cytoplasmic immunoreactivity was present in 22 of 24 astrocytomas, both oligodendrogliomas, eight of 13 ependymomas, all 11 choroid plexus tumors, all nine schwannomas, two of six meningiomas, and both meningeal melanomas. Mixed cytoplasmic immunoreactivity was present in both gangliogliomas, all seven craniopharyngiomas, and the only hemangioblastoma. No cytoplasmic immunoreactivity was fou

Sixteen choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) have been investigated for the localization of different immunocytochemical markers of epithelial and nonepithelial nature, namely, simple epithelial-type cytokeratins, vimentin, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), a panepithelial antigen defined by the lu-5 monoclonal antibody (lu-5 antigen), S-100 protein, and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA). Intermediate filament proteins have been identified in paraffin sections of 14 of 16 cases (87.5%). In all these tumors, cytokeratins and vimentin were constantly coexpressed by the neoplastic cells, in a manne

To evaluate inhibin-A immunoreactivity and its utility in the differential diagnosis of nervous system neoplasms and non-neoplastic lesions. An immunohistochemical study of 252 central and peripheral nervous system tumors and 40 non-neoplastic lesions was undertaken. Brain lesions included the basic spectrum of astrocytic, oligodendroglial, and ependymal neoplasms, as well as glioneuronal, pineal parenchymal, choroid plexus, and embryonal. Meningeal neoplasms, basic peripheral nerve tumors, and uncommon sellar lesions were also assessed. Non-neoplastic lesions included demyelinating disease, p

A multicystic intraventricular tumour of the right ventricular atrium was incidentally diagnosed on follow-up imaging of a 61-year-old man with a history of prostatic adenocarcinoma. Surgical resection of the lesion was performed after a one-year radio-clinical follow-up due to progressive expansion of the lesion size and a rising prostate specific antigen blood-level. Morphological features with papillary pattern on pathological examination were compatible with malignant adenocarcinoma or choroid plexus carcinoma. The immunoprofile was conclusive for an exceptional choroid plexus metastasis (
