[Prevalence and significance of coronary collateral circulation in patients with acute myocardial infarct].

UNLABELLED: Angiograms from consecutive and unselected patients with acute myocardial infarction were studied with respect to the prevalence as well as the significance of coronary collateral circulation to myocardium distal to the acute coronary occlusion. METHODS: Coronary angiograms were obtained from 700 consecutive and unselected patients with an acute transmural infarction within 3.7 +/- 3 hours (0.5-12) of symptom onset. No patient had undergone i.v. thrombolysis prior to angiography. Complete and acute vessel occlusion was found in 626/700 patients (89%). Coronary collaterals were det

Embolization via collateral circulation during carotid stenting with the distal balloon protection system.

PURPOSE: To describe a potential route for embolization to the middle cerebral artery (MCA) during carotid stenting with the distal balloon protection system. CASE REPORT: An 82-year-old man with symptomatic severe carotid artery stenosis underwent elective carotid stenting with distal-balloon protection. Despite complete occlusion of the distal internal carotid artery, frequent emboli were detected in the ipsilateral MCA by transcranial Doppler (TCD) during the procedure. Intracranial angiography, performed during the distal-balloon protection, revealed filling of the MCA through collaterals

[Collateral circulation via the arterial network of the neck in subclavian artery occlusion].

The authors describe three different varieties of collateral circulation via the so called arterial network of the nape of the neck in patients with proximal subclavian artery occlusion. Attention is called to the importance of cervical veins visualization for the evaluation of the efficiency of the collateral circulation and prognosis about the further state of the patient. The authors propose a modification of angiography with additional films taken of the subclavian area in late arterial phase making possible to demonstrate the site of subclavian artery occlusion during carotid angiography.

Role of the coronary collateral circulation in the preservation of left ventricular function.

An angiographic assessment of the coronary arteries, the presence and quality of arterial collateralization and segmental left ventricular (LV) wall motion indicated that (a) in the presence of total or subtotal obstruction of a coronary artery, there was a significantly higher incidence of normal motion (p less than 0.001) if the segment of LV wall was supplied by good rather than poor collaterals, and (b) normal wall motion with good arterial collateralization was not associated with abnormal Q waves. It is concluded that a positive correlation exists between the quality of collateral fillin

Transcatheter occlusion of venovenous collaterals in the total cavopulmonary Fontan circulation.

BACKGROUND: Venovenous collaterals are abnormal connections between the systemic and pulmonary venous systems. They are commonly seen in the Fontan circulation and may lead to significant hypoxaemia. Transcatheter closure of venovenous collaterals is a potential but controversial treatment as the long-term benefits and outcomes are not well understood. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study utilised data from the Australian and New Zealand Fontan Registry. Patients who underwent transcatheter venovenous collateral occlusion for hypoxemia from the year 2000 onwards were included. Atriopulmon

Impact of Collateral Vessels on Fontan Circulation: 0- to 1-Dimensional Fontan Circulation Model and Concept of Oxygen Supply and Consumption.

BACKGROUND: Patients with single ventricle often undergo the Fontan operation to alleviate cyanosis and reduce ventricle volume load. However, long-term outcomes are limited by complications and hemodynamic issues, including collateral vessels, leading to cyanosis and heart failure. Studies have demonstrated considerable blood flow through these collateral vessels; however, their hemodynamic impact on Fontan circulation remains inadequately explained from a theoretical perspective. This study aims to clarify the effects of dobutamine and vasodilators on Fontan circulation in the presence of ao

Indocyanine Green and Fluorescein Videoangiography for the Assessment of Collateral Circulation in Posterior Circulation Aneurysm Clipping: A Case Report and Review.

BACKGROUND: Microsurgical treatment of posterior circulation aneurysms remains challenging due to their deep location, complex anatomical exposure, and close proximity to critical neurovascular structures. Ensuring adequate collateral circulation is paramount for preventing ischemic complications. Indocyanine Green (ICG) and Fluorescein Video Angiography (FL-VAG) have emerged as effective intraoperative tools for assessing cerebral perfusion and guiding surgical decision-making. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 29-year-old male presenting with a thunderclap headache, nausea, and vom

The Role of the Collateral Circulation in Stable Angina: An Invasive Placebo-Controlled Study.

BACKGROUND: Little correlation exists between the burden of ischemia and severity of angina in patients with stable coronary artery disease. This placebo-controlled, n-of-1 study investigated the relationship between ischemia, the collateral circulation, and symptoms in stable coronary artery disease. Additionally, it explored the association between progressive collateral recruitment and ischemic preconditioning. METHODS: Fifty-one participants with severe single-vessel coronary artery disease and angina were recruited. Antianginal medications were stopped, and daily angina symptoms were doc

Factors Influencing Collateral Circulation Formation After Indirect Revascularization for Moyamoya Disease: a Narrative Review.

Indirect revascularization is one of the main techniques for the treatment of Moyamoya disease. The formation of good collateral circulation is a key measure to improve cerebral blood perfusion and reduce the risk of secondary stroke, and is the main method for evaluating the effect of indirect revascularization. Therefore, how to predict and promote the formation of collateral circulation before and after surgery is important for improving the success rate of indirect revascularization in Moyamoya disease. Previous studies have shown that vascular endothelial growth factor, endothelial progen

Different Grades of Collateral Circulation for Evaluating Cerebral Hemodynamic Status in Carotid Artery Stenosis.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Normally, ipsilateral hemodynamic compromise of patients with carotid stenosis (CS) is subjectively identified by collateral circulation through cerebral angiography in the clinical process. It is unclear whether collaterals would linearly determine cerebral perfusion in CS patients. This study aimed to investigate the independent role of collateral circulation on cerebral perfusion in CS patients and the underlying interrelations among them. From 2017 to 2020, 124 CS patients who underwent carotid endarterectomy (CEA) with both preoperative CTP and digital substruction angiography (DSA) image

Recruitment and maturation of the coronary collateral circulation: Current understanding and perspectives in arteriogenesis.

The coronary collateral circulation is a rich anastomotic network of primitive vessels which have the ability to augment in size and function through the process of arteriogenesis. In this review, we evaluate the current understandings of the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which this process occurs, specifically focussing on elevated fluid shear stress (FSS), inflammation, the redox state and gene expression along with the integrative, parallel and simultaneous process by which this occurs. The initiating step of arteriogenesis occurs following occlusion of an epicardial coronary artery,

Clinical significance of mesenteric arterial collateral circulation in patients with celiac artery compression syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: Although extensive collateral arterial circulation will prevent ischemia in most patients with stenosis of a single mesenteric artery, mesenteric ischemia may occur in these patients, for example, in patients with celiac artery compression syndrome (CACS). Variation in the extent of collateral circulation may explain the difference in clinical symptoms and variability in response to therapy; however, evidence is lacking. The objective of the study was to classify the presence of mesenteric arterial collateral circulation in patients with CACS and to evaluate the relation with clinic
