From research to practice: a qualitative study examining the integration of telehealth-based suicide prevention in HIV care in Tanzania.

Despite the life-saving potential of mental health interventions, their scalability and integration within healthcare systems present significant challenges, particularly in low-resource global settings. This study investigated scaling IDEAS for Hope, a telehealth counseling intervention designed to reduce suicide risk and improve HIV care engagement among people living with HIV in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, and identified actionable implementation strategies for successful scale-up. We conducted 20 semi-structured interviews, between May and July of 2024, with purposively sampled stakeholders fro

State Medicaid coverage for tobacco-dependence treatments--United States, 2006.

Approximately one third of adult Medicaid recipients smoke. The Public Health Service, the Task Force on Community Preventive Services, and the Institute of Medicine recommend that health-insurance coverage be provided for tobacco-dependence treatments. In addition, a Healthy People 2010 national health objective calls for total health-insurance coverage for evidence-based tobacco-dependence treatments in all 51 Medicaid programs (objective 27-8b). The types of tobacco-dependence treatments covered by Medicaid have been reported periodically from surveys conducted by the Center for Health and

Willingness to receive lung cancer screening when engaged in community-based locations.

OBJECTIVE: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths. Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening enables early detection and reduces lung cancer mortality. Yet, less than 10% of eligible individuals participate in LDCT. This study leveraged community connections to measure willingness to undergo lung cancer screening among a diverse population. METHODS: Black (n = 437) and White (n = 122) Americans were recruited from community-based locations (eg, barbershops, salons, libraries) in a large city. Participants completed a survey measuring willingness to undergo lung cancer screening

Healthcare utilisation, cancer screening and potential barriers to accessing cancer care in rural South West Nigeria: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Cancer burden is predicted to double by 2030 in sub-Saharan Africa; access to healthcare services for cancer management is a priority in the region. In Nigeria, National Cancer Control Plan aims to ensure >50% cancer screening of eligible populations by 2022 for all Nigerians. We describe healthcare utilisation, cancer screening activities and potential barriers to accessing cancer care within an understudied rural community-based adult population in South West Nigeria. METHODS: In April 2018, we conducted a cross-sectional study of community-based adults (>18 years) ~130 km

Predictors of cervical cancer screening among Vietnamese American women.

This study examines Pap testing behavior among 265 Vietnamese American women aged 18 or above. A community-based survey was conducted with Vietnamese women in five cities: Houston (TX), Springfield (MA), Camden (NJ), Charlotte (NC), and Falls Church (VA). Seventy-five percent of the study sample ever received a Pap test, 45% within the last 12 months. Women's perceived risks of cancer, belief that cancer can be detected early with screening, and disagreement that it is embarrassing to get tested and that only married women should get tested are related to Pap testing. Making health insurance responsive to citizens: learning from six low-income and middle-income countries.

BACKGROUND: Many low-income and middle-income countries have introduced public health insurance systems, whereby, thanks to government subsidies, selected groups are entitled to receive insurance coverage even if not paying direct contributions into the system. These efforts towards achieving universal health coverage were often undermined by difficulties in enrolment and registration, barriers to health service utilisation or complicated rules around service packages. Governmental and non-governmental accountability initiatives have been established to overcome these barriers in order to make

Exploring the lived socioeconomic experiences of teen mothers in Rwanda.

Teenage pregnancy is one of the major public health problems worldwide, with the issue more severe in low-and middle-income countries. While poverty is a main risk factor, the negative consequences of teenage pregnancy further perpetuate the cycle of poverty. To support teen mothers, many support programs were created; however, the benefits which reached them were limited. Since social norms vary from community to community, the types of challenges teen mothers face influence the type of support they need. This study explored the firsthand socio-economic experiences of women who underwent teen

Mental health services in Croatia-current perspectives and future challenges.

We examine the current state and challenges of mental health services in the Republic of Croatia, a Central European country with a population of 3.87 million. Croatia's healthcare system delivers mental health services across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, largely supported by the Croatian Health Insurance Fund, which administers the country's universal healthcare system, ensuring wide accessibility. Key policy frameworks include the Strategic Framework for the Development of Mental Health until 2030 and the Action Plan in Addictions. However, challenges persist, including a lack of

Urban homelessness and poverty during economic prosperity and welfare reform: changes in self-reported comorbidities, insurance, and sources for usual care, 1995-1997.

Little is known of how homeless and other urban poor populations have fared during the robust economy and within structural changes in health care delivery and entitlement programs of the 1990s. This is important in determining the need for population-specific services during a vigorous economy with low unemployment and increasing Medicaid managed-care penetration. This study compared health insurance status and availability of a source for usual medical care, psychiatric and substance abuse comorbidities, and perceived causes of homelessness in homeless adults surveyed in 1995 and 1997. [Service system models for adolescent mental health in different institutional contexts and their implications for China].

Based on health systems and multi-level governance theories, an analytical framework of "policy elements-implementation mechanisms-governance outcomes" was developed, covering seven dimensions: legal safeguards, financial commitment, service networks, human resources, digital/remote support, inter-sectoral collaboration, and early prevention and intervention. Structured coding was applied to Brazil, Australia, Germany, and the United States. The coding evidence was limited to laws, strategies, budgets, and project documents issued by governments or government-authorized agencies; materials fro

Factors associated with choosing a chiropractor for episodes of back pain care.

Back pain is a common illness and chiropractors provide a large proportion of back pain care in the United States. This is the first study to systematically compare chiropractic patients with those who saw other providers for back pain. The authors analyzed data from the RAND Health Insurance Experiment, a community-based study of the use of health services. Insurance claims forms were examined for all visits specified by the patient as occurring for back pain. Visits were grouped into episodes using decision rules and clinical judgment. The primary provider of back pain care was defined as th
