Concurrent Sweet's syndrome and erythema nodosum: a report, world literature review and mechanism of pathogenesis.

Sweet's syndrome (acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis) and erythema nodosum are reactive dermatoses whose pathogenesis is currently undefined. Although there are several associated conditions that both of these disorders have in common, the appearance of Sweet's syndrome and erythema nodosum in the same person is rare. Only 8 individuals with biopsy confirmed lesions of both dermatoses were described in the world literature. We describe a 30-year-old woman with biopsy confirmed lesions of Sweet's syndrome on her hand and erythema nodosum on her legs. She had been taking an oral contraceptive

Phyllodes-predominant prostatic stromal sarcoma concurrent with prostate adenocarcinoma: a case report and literature review.

Prostatic stromal sarcoma (PSS) is a rare malignant mesenchymal tumor originating from the specialized stroma of the prostate. It is a heterogeneous tumor, in which a predominantly phyllodes architecture has been documented only in isolated case reports. The co-occurrence of a phyllodes-predominant PSS and prostate adenocarcinoma (PCA) is even more exceptional. Here, we reported a case of a 52-year-old man with the chief complaint of dysuria for 2 months in 2018. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a mass lesion in the left lobe of the prostate. The patient underwent surgical resection,

Concurrent Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscess and infective endocarditis: A rare case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Investigating the clinical characteristics and treatment strategies of pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) complicated by infective endocarditis (IE), this study draws on a successfully treated case of PLA caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae, alongside a literature review of similar cases. CASE SUMMARY: We report a 50-year-old male with type 2 diabetes who presented with acute fever, chills, and a liver abscess. The patient was initially treated with intravenous ceftriaxone (2 g daily). Due to the onset of septic shock, the antibiotic regimen was escalated to piperacillin-tazobactam (4.5 g e

Thyroid Langerhans cell histiocytosis concurrent with papillary thyroid carcinoma: A case report and literature review.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a clonal neoplasm of myeloid dendritic cells, rarely involving the thyroid gland. Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common histological subtype of thyroid cancer. We report a rare case of a 34-year-old Chinese woman who has LCH with PTC and cervical lymph node metastasis of LCH, with a review of the literature. The patient has thyroid nodules and cervical lymph node enlargement detected by neck ultrasound during physical examination. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) showed PTC with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and BRAF V600E mutation after th

Breast-like vulvar lesion with concurrent breast cancer: a case report and critical literature review.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Cancer metabolism is often viewed as a cooperative reliance on glucose and glutamine; however, whether these nutrients can enforce discrete, non-overlapping metabolic states remains unclear. This study aimed to isolate nutrient-specific regulatory programs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells were cultured under four distinct metabolic environments: glucose/glutamine nutrient-repleted (fed), dual glucose/glutamine deficiency, and isolated repletion of either glucose or glutamine. Groups were evaluated for integrated transcriptomic, metabolomic, and lipi

Concurrent (tandem) cervical and lumbar spinal stenosis: a 10-yr review of 54 hospitalized patients.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency of concurrent cervical and lumbar spinal stenosis (i.e., "tandem spinal stenosis" [TSS]) in a 10-yr review of hospital admissions. DESIGN: In a retrospective study of 460,964 hospital admissions to our 1,000-bed academic community hospital, we identified a base population of 54 patients with TSS. These patients presented with multiple complaints, including neurogenic claudication, progressive gait disturbances, and neurologic signs of both upper and lower motor neuron dysfunction, among others. Since 1964 when TSS was first described, estimates of its fre

Concurrent biliary atresia and intestinal atresia: a systematic review of clinical characteristics, pathogenesis, management, and outcomes.

PURPOSE: The coexistence of biliary atresia (BA) and intestinal atresia (IA) is exceptionally rare. Delayed recognition of BA in neonates undergoing surgery for IA may adversely affect outcomes. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the available evidence regarding the clinical presentation, pathogenesis, management strategies, and outcomes of patients with concurrent BA and IA. METHODS: A systematic literature search of PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar was conducted for studies published up to December 2025. Relevant studies encompassing case reports, case series, and retrospective rev

Bleeding risk in patients receiving concurrent treatment with direct oral anticoagulants and corticosteroids: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) and corticosteroids are frequently co-prescribed in clinical practice. While both drug classes independently increase bleeding risk, the impact of their concurrent use remains unclear. AIM: To systematically review the literature on bleeding outcomes associated with combined DOAC and corticosteroid use. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review following PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched for studies reporting bleeding in patients receiving both DOACs and corticosteroids. Cumulative incidences of any bleeding and

Concurrent Nasal Sebaceous Carcinoma and Right-Hand Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common nonmelanoma skin cancer with an increasing incidence. Sebaceous carcinoma (SC) is a rare, highly aggressive malignant tumor of cutaneous appendage origin, mainly occurring in the head and neck region (most commonly in the ocular area), and extremely rare in the nasal region. A literature review showed that only 3 cases of collision tumors composed of SC and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) have been reported previously, and there is no report of concurrent SC and cSCC in different sites of the same patient. Combined with a literat

Management Challenges in Concurrent Acute Myocardial Infarction and Ischemic Stroke: A Case Series and Literature Review.

Concurrent acute myocardial infarction and acute ischemic stroke, termed cardiocerebral infarction (CCI), is a rare but critical emergency that presents major diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report a case series of three patients presenting with concurrent CCI, highlighting the variability in clinical presentation and the complexity of acute management. The cases illustrate diverse clinical presentations; variable temporal relationships between cardiac and neurological events; and complex management decisions involving thrombolysis, primary percutaneous coronary intervention, and ant

Case Report: A case report and literature review of shwachman-diamond syndrome concurrent with klinefelter syndrome.

Shwachman-Diamond syndrome (SDS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by pancreatic insufficiency, metaphyseal chondrodysplasia, and bone marrow failure. These clinical features collectively contribute to the multisystemic nature of SDS, affecting multiple organ systems. In contrast, Klinefelter syndrome is defined by the presence of an additional X chromosome. Its clinical presentation primarily includes an abnormal testicular microenvironment, impaired spermatogenesis, decreased testosterone levels, and elevated gonadotropin levels. We identified a pediatric patient presenting with SDS c

Concurrent chronic kidney disease in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a multi-organ autoimmune disease that commonly affects the gastrointestinal tract, but can also affect other organs throughout the body. Less is known, however, about kidney involvement in IBD. Although IBD has been associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD), these results have been inconsistent. The present study analyzed the prevalence of concurrent CKD and ESRD in patients with IBD. METHODS: PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Embase were searched for studies published through October 2023 on IBD patie

Renal Complications after Percutaneous Coronary Interventions on Concurrent Metformin Therapy: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis.

Objective: Metformin, commonly prescribed in diabetic patients, can cause lactic acidosis. Although generally rare, this side effect remains a source of concern in procedures requiring contrast media, due to the risk of contrast-induced nephropathy. Temporarily withdrawing metformin during the peri-procedural period is often practiced, but clinical decisions are difficult in emergency situations, such as acute coronary syndromes. In this systematic review with meta-analysis, we aimed to further investigate the safety of percutaneous coronary interventions in patients on concurrent metformin th

Concurrent urachal abscess and florid cystitis glandularis masquerading as malignancy: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: The urachus is the embryological remnant of the cloaca and allantois. Failure of its regression can cause diseases any time after birth. It is difficult to differentiate an abscess from urachal adenocarcinoma based on the clinical presentation and image findings. Cystitis glandularis reflects chronic irritation of the bladder urothelium, and tumor-like florid cystitis glandularis can be misdiagnosed as malignancy. We report a patient with concurrent urachal abscess and florid cystitis glandularis which increased the resemblance of malignancy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 57-year-old femal

Concurrent Management of Prostate Cancer and Perianal Fistula: A Case Report, Treatment Considerations, and Review of Literature.

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer and pre-existing perianal fistula are challenging conditions to manage concurrently as pelvic radiotherapy may raise concern for impaired wound healing, infection, or fistula progression. Although radiotherapy has traditionally raised concern as a risk factor for fistulization, this case suggests that selected patients with a pre-existing perianal fistula may be treated with careful multidisciplinary planning and modern radiotherapy techniques.
