Drassanes Exprés: a public and confidential testing service for asymptomatic STIs with same-day result notification.

BACKGROUND: STIs are a major public health concern. Screening programmes for asymptomatic users are key components of STI control. Traditional limitations of screening programmes include low population coverage and delays in treatments, thus reducing the expected impact on STI control. In our centre, the normal time from test to results was 4 days, and 7 days until treatment was established. To reduce time to treatment and to increase population coverage, we developed 'Drassanes Exprés', a testing service for asymptomatic STIs. The objectives of this study were to provide a guide for the implem

Application of information technology may increase the efficacy of Confidential Unit Exclusion (CUE) in blood donors.

Confidential Unit Exclusion (CUE) refers to a procedure by which a blood donor designates confidentially whether his or her blood might not be safe for transfusion. It applies to situations in which an individual who is not eligible for blood donation in terms of blood safety feel pressured by others to donate his or her blood. A potential problem in the CUE system is misunderstanding of the procedure and its significance by blood donors as well as the lack of their confidence regarding the confidentiality of their private information. Since the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) p

[Audits and confidential enquiry: thoughts on the technique used by the French National Committee for the reduction of maternal deaths].

This study demonstrates the need for a confidential approach to medial information when the objective is to improve medical practices, as was the goal of the French National Committee for the reduction of maternal deaths. This approach is the exact opposite of a litigation where the goal is to determine "guilt". Confidential analysis of maternal deaths is not designed to find a guilty person, but rather to identify the mechanisms leading to a maternal death in order to correct the organizational or medical practice leading to failure. We review here similar actions taken to reduce other types

"Everyone Hears Everyone's Business": Health Care Provider Perspectives on Privacy and Confidentiality in U.S. Prisons and Jails.

Incarcerated people suffer stigmatized conditions at higher rates than nonincarcerated people, making upholding privacy and confidentiality ethically essential in prisons and jails. Yet these health professional values are widely acknowledged to be challenging to maintain in carceral settings. Robust qualitative data on how physicians and nurses navigate and perceive limitations to privacy and confidentiality in U.S. prisons and jails is lacking. This study reports on 55 semistructured interviews with physicians and nurses who have worked in federal or state prisons and/or jails across the Uni

Neuroethics, confidentiality, and a cultural imperative in early onset Alzheimer disease: a case study with a First Nation population.

The meaningful consideration of cultural practices, values and beliefs is a necessary component in the effective translation of advancements in neuroscience to clinical practice and public discourse. Society's immense investment in biomedical science and technology, in conjunction with an increasingly diverse socio-cultural landscape, necessitates the study of how potential discoveries in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer disease are perceived and utilized across cultures. Building on the work of neuroscientists, ethicists and philosophers, we argue that the growing field of neuroet

Nationwide confidential enquiries into maternal deaths because of obstetric hemorrhage in the Netherlands between 2006 and 2019.

INTRODUCTION: Obstetric hemorrhage-related deaths are rare in high income countries. Yet, with increasing incidences of obstetric hemorrhage in these countries, it is of utmost importance to learn lessons from each obstetric hemorrhage-related death to improve maternity care. Our objective was to calculate the obstetric hemorrhage-related maternal mortality ratio (MMR), assess causes of obstetric hemorrhage-related deaths, and identify lessons learned. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Nationwide mixed-methods prospective case-series with confidential enquiries into maternal deaths due to obstetric hemor

Confidential inquiry into perinatal deaths in the Mersey region. Mersey Region Working Party on Perinatal Mortality.

In a confidential inquiry into perinatal deaths in the Mersey region in 1979 obstetric and paediatric assessors reviewed the circumstances surrounding each case in order to identify any avoidable factors contributing to the death. The area covered by the inquiry was determined by the mother's place of residence and related to 58% of total births (liver births and stillbirths) and 61% of perinatal deaths in the region. Avoidable factors were present in 182 (59%) of the 309 perinatal deaths. Low-birthweight infants (less than or equal to 2500 g) with no maternal complications comprised the large

Understanding Primary Care Providers' Perceptions and Practices in Implementing Confidential Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Services.

PURPOSE: Substantial gaps exist between professional guidelines and practice around confidential adolescent services, including private time between health-care providers and adolescents. Efforts to provide quality sexual and reproductive health services (SRHS) require an understanding of barriers and facilitators to care from the perspectives of primary care providers working with adolescents and their parents. METHODS: We conducted structured qualitative interviews with a purposive sample of pediatricians, family physicians, and nurse practitioners (n = 25) from urban and rural Minnesota co

The Relationship Between State-Level Confidentiality Mandates and HIV/Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing Among High School Students in the United States.

PURPOSE: As of 2019, only 14 states mandate confidentiality for HIV testing and 13 states have enacted similar regulations for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), respectively. Nevertheless, the impact of these protections remains inconclusive and underexplored. This study aimed to understand the relationship between these privacy statutes and self-reported HIV/STI testing history among 9th-12th graders in the US and assessed whether sex served as an effect modifier of these associations. METHODS: We conducted a secondary, cross-sectional analysis with responses from the Youth Risk Behavi

[Maternal deaths due to haemorrhage: Results from the French confidential enquiry into maternal deaths, 2010-2012].

Haemorrhage is the first cause of maternal mortality and morbidity in France and a quality of care marker. Haemorrhage rate in France is around 5 to 10% of deliveries. PPH is defined as a post-partum blood loss≥500mL whatever the delivery route and sometime blood can be concealed inside the pelvis. Between 2010 and 2012 in France, 29 deaths were related to haemorrhage giving a maternal mortality ratio of 1.2/100,000 live births (CI 95% 0.8-1.7). Haemorrhage cases decreased from last triennium (2007-2009) especially for uterine atony cases (12/29) but remains the first leading cause of direct m
