Odontogenic Cutaneous Fistula: First Dermoscopic Description and a Practical Management Framework.

Odontogenic cutaneous fistula (OCF) is an uncommon manifestation of dental infection that is often underrecognized because of its variable morphology and the absence of obvious dental symptoms. Misdiagnosis may lead to unnecessary tests and treatments, whereas a permanent cure depends on the elimination of the offending tooth. We report the case of a 15-year-old female who presented with progressive swelling of the right cheek and fever. Ultrasound revealed a 21.8-cc abscess, which was managed with surgical drainage and a five-day course of amoxicillin-clavulanate. Dermoscopy showed radiating

Sino-orbital cutaneous fistula with endoscopy guided technique: A case series.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Sino-orbital cutaneous fistula (SOCF) directly connects the sinus, orbital space, and outer skin. SOCF has been reported mostly as a complication of orbital exenteration, although it may occur from other infrequent etiologies. The patient can be treated using an endoscopy-guided technique which requires a multidisciplinary approach. CASE PRESENTATION: We present three cases of SOCF due to less common etiologies (mucocele, chronic inflammation, and malignancy) in young adult patients with a history of orbital and surgical complications. The endoscopy-guided techniq

Cutaneous fistula on the cheek associated with oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum.

A Japanese boy, presented with epibulbar dermoid and ipsilateral preauricular appendages, had a pit on his cheek of the same side. An atrial septal defect and vertebral fusions were also identified. He was diagnosed with a mild type of oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum (OAVS). At the age of 18 months, his cheek was swollen with a slight fever. An infected cyst and cutaneous fistula enveloped by the risorius muscle were extracted. It was assumed to be a remnant of the fissure between the maxillary and mandibular prominences. This was the first case of cutaneous fistula confirmed histologically

Letter to editor: One case of congenital dorsal penile cutaneous fistula.

Congenital cutaneous fistula in the pubic area in infants and young children is a very rare congenital dysplasia disease, mainly manifested by abnormal punctiform opening near the midline of the area. What we are going to describe is a case of a 2-month-old boy with a congenital dorsal penile cutaneous fistula. At first, the main manifestation was pus at the opening of the fistula. The child recovered well after surgery without obvious complications.

Cerebrospinal fluid cutaneous fistula after neuraxial anesthesia: an effective treatment approach.

Cerebrospinal fluid cutaneous fistula is a rare but potentially serious complication of epidural analgesia. We report the case of a patient submitted to total knee arthroplasty under subarachnoid block and placement of lumbar epidural catheter for post-operative analgesia. The epidural catheter was found exteriorised on the fourth post-operative day, and the patient presented with a moderate fluid leak from the puncture site that was confirmed to be cerebrospinal fluid by cytological and chemical analysis. The initial therapeutic approach consisted of bed rest, hydration and prophylactic antib

Management of a cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma overlying an AV fistula.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) currently affects over 700 000 patients per year in the USA alone, and its incidence continues to rise in recent years. A known risk factor for cSCC is chronic inflammation; a cSCC that develops at a site of chronic inflammation is known as Marjolin's ulcer. We present the case of a 76-year-old man with end-stage renal disease requiring chronic haemodialysis who developed an invasive cSCC at the cannulation site of an underlying arteriovenous (AV) fistula. In this instance, treatment with standard surgical excision or Mohs surgery would pose unique risk

The nasal artery musculomucosal cutaneous flap in difficult palatal fistula closure.

Background After cleft palate repair is performed, oronasal fistulas are potential consequences with resultant regurgitation of fluid and food, hearing loss, and velopharyngeal insufficiency. Treatment of oronasal fistulas is a challenge for plastic surgeons especially when the fistulas are large and scarring is significant. The facial artery musculomucosal (FAMM) flap, introduced by Pribaz in 1992, is a reliable and useful procedure for the closure of wide palatal fistulas. A new modification of facial artery composite flap is presented here including a skin component that avoids extended pro

[Vesico-cutaneous fistula revealing abdominal wall malakoplakia accompanied by Boeck's sarcoidosis].

UNLABELLED: Malakoplakia is an acquired granulomatous disorder first described by Michaelis and Gutmann in 1902. The pathogenesis of malakoplakia is hardly known, but it thought to be secondary to an acquired bactericidal defect in macrophages occurring mostly in immunosuppressed patients. CASE REPORT: 63-year-old female patient had been treated with methylprednisolone for ten years, because of pulmonary sarcoidosis. For six month, recurrent abdominal abscess and vesico-cutaneous fistula developed. Histological examination proved malakoplakia, and Escherichia coli was detected in the abscess

[Tissue adhesive treatment of persistent recto-cutaneous fistula following Hartmann procedure].

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous fistulas from the rectal stump after Hartmann procedure are not rare. Rarely do they require operative intervention, but they may result in prolonged skin care during hospitalization. PURPOSE: of study: To describe the use of fibrin glue in the treatment of rectocutaneous fistulas occurring after Hartmann procedure. STUDY DESIGN: Ten patients underwent irrigation of the fistulous tract followed by fibrin glue injection. The glue was reconstituted using the usual two syringe admixture technique; the tract was catheterized as far as the rectal stump, and the glue was inje

Endoscopic closure of fecal colo-cutaneous fistula by using metal clips.

Fecal colo-cutaneous fistula often requires surgical intervention for successful closure increasing the morbidity and mortality associated with this condition. Endoscopic fistula closure can be a less invasive modality. We report successful closure of fecal colo-cutaneous fistula by endoscopic application of metal hemo-clips after failure of prolonged treatment including diverting proximal ileostomy in 2 consecutive patients after emergency primary repair of cecal perforation caused by stab injury of abdomen and iatrogenic fecal fistula after left hemicolectomy and colo-colic anastomosis for a

A rare case: spontaneous cutaneous fistula of infected splenic hydatid cyst.

Hydatid disease is caused by the larval stage of the genus Echinococcus. Live hydatid cysts can rupture into physiologic channels, free body cavities or adjacent organs. Although hydatid disease can develop anywhere in the human body, the liver is the most frequently involved organ, followed by the lungs. Cysts of the spleen are unusual. There are only five case reports of spontaneous cutaneous fistulization of liver hydatid cysts in the literature. But there isn't any report about cutaneous fistula caused by splenic hydatid cyst. We report a first case of spontaneous cutaneous fistula of infe

A double fistula, broncho-cavitary-cutaneous communication caused by cancer invasion.

Pulmonary infection with cavitation causes severe respiratory symptoms if the cavity has a communication with main bronchus, through which fluid flows out into trachea. In this report a young male with lung cancer invading an adjacent pre-existent fungus cavitary lesion is presented. Cancer invasion led to broncho-cavitary communication and caused massive intrabronchial aspiration. Subsequently, the cancer destroyed the thoracic wall, and a cavitary-cutaneous fistula developed which relieved symptoms as if treated with open drainage.

An extremely uncommon complication of acute pancreatitis: spontaneous pancreatic cutaneous fistula.

We report the case of a 67-year-old male who was referred to our hospital due to severe abdominal pain and fever. His past medical history included a total gastrectomy surgery for stomach cancer. Abdominal examination showed intense pain on deep palpation in the epigastric region. Laboratory test revealed elevated C-reactive protein (235 mg/l) and amylase (1,789 U/l). Computerized tomography reported a pancreatic collection with the presence of air bubbles inside and areas of necrotic pancreatic parenchyma.

Spontaneous Cholecysto-Cutaneous Fistula Draining Through an Old Abdominal Surgical Scar.

BACKGROUND: Though cholelithiasis and cholecystitis are common clinical problems, spontaneous cholecysto-cutaneous fistula is a rare complication of cholelithiasis in present-day practice. Very few cases have been reported in literature after 1950s. CASE REPORT: A 60-year-old male presented with pain and discharging sinus in the upper abdomen. Ultrasonography and computed tomography confirmed the presence of perforation of the gall bladder and cholecysto-cutaneous fistula. External opening of the fistula was overlying an old surgical scar. Less than five cases of spontaneous cholecysto-cutane

Broncho-hepatico-cutaneous fistula in a case of amoebic liver abscess.

Pulmonary complications occur in 7-20% of patients with amoebic liver abscess(ALA) and may present as pleural effusion, empyema, lung abscess or a bronchohepatic fistula. Rupture into a bronchus presents as sudden coughing with expectoration of chocolate-coloured sputum and is usually managed by postural drainage, bronchodilators and anti-amoebic drugs. A young boy presented with a large amoebic liver abscess of about 1 L volume which ruptured into the lung. He required surgical drainage of the liver abscess as even after intubation he was not able to maintain adequate ventilation. Following t
