The purpose of this study was to prepare nanoparticles with a size significantly smaller than 0.1 micron. It was shown that when sulphur dioxide was dissolved in the cyanoacrylic monomer at a high concentration, subsequent anionic polymerization in an aqueous phase produced particles as small as 10 nm. Moreover, the obtained particles displayed an important negative charge which improve their stability against aggregation. Finally, nanoparticles were successfully prepared in double-distilled water, thereby avoiding the use of dextran which can induce anaphylactoid reactions.

Primary cutaneous aspergillosis is a rare but potentially life-threatening disease. We present the case of a premature infant who developed primary cutaneous aspergillosis with Aspergillus niger at the site of a skin abrasion that had been treated with a purple-colored cyanoacrylate product. The infection was treated successfully with gentle debridement of the cyanoacrylate product, followed by intravenous voriconazole and topical fluconazole. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of primary cutaneous aspergillosis occurring at the site of cyanoacrylate-based skin adhesive.

Ureterocutaneous fistula is a rare complication of renal surgery. Cyanoacrylate glue is a tissue adhesive, used primarily for the endoscopic control of bleeding from gastric varices. A female aged 33 presented to our facility with a ureterocutaneous fistula after surgery.
