Polycross breeding offers a promising strategy to introduce genetic variation in clonally propagated crops such as citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus), where limited genetic diversity constrains breeding progress. Biradar and colleagues recently employed SSR markers to identify pollen donors among half‑sib progenies from four commercial cultivars, reporting identification of potential paternal parents for five of eleven progenies. Three methodological considerations warrant careful attention. First, the paternity assignment success rate (45%) is substantially lower than the 79-99% recovery rat

Presently, the construction industry demands components that are exceptionally strong and long-lasting. The initial important construction material is concrete, which contains between 1 % and 2 % of air voids. The structural damage caused by water that enters through the air spaces are improved with filler material. Chemical filler materials are environmentally harmful; therefore, eco-friendly materials are selected for this study. The environmentally benign character of agro-waste byproduct usage is a driving factor in the field of research. Numerous uses can be found for waste materials, esp

Candida species are responsible for the most common fungal infections worldwide. We studied the in vitro antifungal activity of a large panel of essential oils (EOs) against various Candida species. The EOs activity against Candida spp. was tested using a gradient microdilution assay ranging from 4% to 0.008% (v/v). After a preliminary screening including 31 EOs, seven selected EOs were tested against 13 clinical isolates and four reference strains belonging to six Candida species. Cinnamomum zeylanicum and Cymbopogon giganteus EOs exhibited the best antifungal activity against all clinical an

Lemongrass contains a variety of substances that are known to have antioxidant and disease-preventing properties, including essential oils, compounds, minerals, and vitamins. Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Spp.) essential oil (LGEO) has been demonstrated to ameliorate diabetes and accelerate wound healing. A member of the Poaceae family, Lemongrass, a fragrant plant, is cultivated for the extraction of essential oils including myrcene and a mixture of geranial and neral isomers of citral monoterpenes. Active constituents in lemongrass essential oil are myrcene, followed by limonene and citral along wi

The peculicidal activity of eight plant essential oils in 75% isopropyl alcohol was in vitro investigated. Of them, the substances that were most active against lice were tea tree (Melaleuca), eucalyptus, neem, citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), and clove (Syzygium aromaticum) oils; KT50 was not more than 3 minutes on average; KT95 was 4 minutes. After evaporating the solvent, only five (tea tree, cassia, clove, anise (Anisum vulgare), and Japanese star anise (Illicium anisatum) oils) of the eight test botanical substances were active against lice. At the same time, KT50 and KT95 showed 1.5-5-fol

Citral, a naturally occurring acyclic monoterpene aldehyde, is present in the essential oils of various plants, but only a few produce it in abundance. Despite its importance as a key aroma molecule, knowledge regarding the in-planta biosynthesis of citral and its metabolic origin remains limited. Here, we have elucidated the functions of an alcohol dehydrogenase (CfADH1) and an aldoketo-reductase (CfAKR2b) in citral biosynthesis in lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus), one of the most cultivated aromatic crops for its citral-rich essential oil. Expression of both CfADH1 and CfAKR2b showed correl

Histoplasmosis, caused by Histoplasma capsulatum, poses risks for immunocompromised individuals. With limited therapeutic options, this study explores microparticles as antimicrobial delivery systems for Cymbopogon flexuosus and Pelargonium graveolens essential oils against H. capsulatum. The broth microdilution assay showed MICs of 32 to 128 µg/mL in filamentous phase and 8 to 64 µg/mL in yeast phase. Combining microparticles with antifungal drugs demonstrated synergistic effects in both filamentous and yeast-like forms with amphotericin B or itraconazole. Chitosan microparticles reduced H. c

Fungal infections caused by Candida albicans present significant challenges in clinical settings owing to rising resistance to conventional antifungal treatments. Natural products derived from medicinal plants, including tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), garlic (Allium sativum), cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) and lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), are increasingly recognized for their potential antimicrobial properties and as alternative sources of antifungal therapies. This study evaluated the antifungal efficacy of Tulsi, Garlic, Cinnamon and Lemongrass extracts against Candida albicans using disk diffusi

The diagnostic workup of contact allergy to fragrances must not be limited to patch testing with the two well-established fragrance mixes. False-positive reactions to these mixes occur in up to 50 % of the patch tested patients. For the diagnostic work-up of positive reactions, and in cases of suspected fragrance allergy, patch testing with the single mix components and additional fragrances is mandatory. Frequently sensitizing fragrance materials are the 14 components of the two fragrance mixes and tree moss (Evernia furfuracea), ylang ylang oil (I + II; Cananga odorata), lemongrass oil (Cymb

Arthropods maintain ecosystem balance while also contributing to the spread of disease. Plant-derived natural repellents represent an ecological method of pest control, but their direct molecular targets in arthropods remain to be further elucidated. Occupying a critical phylogenetic niche in arthropod evolution, scorpions retain an ancestral genetic profile. Here, using a behavior-guided screening of the Mesobuthus martensii genome, we identified a scorpion transient receptor potential (sTRP1) channel that senses Cymbopogon-derived natural repellents, while remaining insensitive to the synthe
