Shared decision making in pregnancy in inflammatory bowel disease: design of a patient orientated decision aid.

BACKGROUND: Research has indicated a lack of disease-specific reproductive knowledge among patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and this has been associated with increased "voluntary childlessness". Furthermore, a lack of knowledge may contribute to inappropriate medication changes during or after pregnancy. Decision aids have been shown to support decision making in pregnancy as well as in multiple other chronic diseases. A published decision aid for pregnancy in IBD has not been identified, despite the benefit of pre-conception counselling and patient desire for a decision support

The application of decision analysis to evaluate the need for extraction of asymptomatic third molars.

A theoretical model using a decision tree is used to compare three alternative strategies: extract all third molars prior to complete root formation; extract only those third molars that become impacted; and extract only those impacted third molars that develop some associated pathology. The model used to determine the expected value of these alternative strategies depends on the probability of eruption, the type of impaction, and likelihood of developing preoperative pathology. The decision tree can be used to identify a preferred strategy either for an individual patient or for a policy reco

Ask the parents: Testing the acceptability and usability of a hypospadias decision aid.

INTRODUCTION: In previous work, we engaged key stakeholders to create a web-based decision aid (DA) prototype to facilitate shared decision making about hypospadias. OBJECTIVE: The study's objective was to use a human-centered design approach to assess the DA's acceptability and usability and revise it prior to pilot testing. METHODS: We recruited English-speaking parents (≥18 years old) of sons with hypospadias (≤5 years) for a two-phase process of semi-structured phone/video interviews to obtain feedback about our DA prototype. DA webpages included: "Hypospadias," "Surgery Basics," "No Sur

Intelligent audit decision support for enterprise related-party transactions based on knowledge graph and graph neural network.

Related-party transactions (RPTs) occupy a central position in contemporary corporate governance, serving as essential channels for resource allocation among affiliated business entities. The growing complexity of ownership arrangements and globalized operations has made RPT auditing increasingly challenging for financial professionals. Traditional audit methodologies struggle with intricate enterprise relationship networks that often span multiple jurisdictions and involve layered ownership through shell companies, rendering manual inspection approaches both time-consuming and incomplete. Decision Analysis to Inform Screening of the Young: An Interactive Newborn Screening Model.

Decision analytic models that project the outcomes of population-based newborn screening compared with clinical identification can inform newborn screening policymaking. A flexible decision analytic model that could be adapted for the many and growing number of conditions being considered for newborn screening would help expedite decision making while reducing the time and resources required to develop new condition-specific models. To address this need, we developed Decision Analysis to Inform Screening of the Young (DAISY), an interactive and adaptable generic newborn screening model that in

Drug harms in Canada: A multi-criteria decision analysis.

BACKGROUND: Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) has been used to quantify drug harms in the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, and New Zealand. This paper presents the result of an MCDA conducted in Canada, with the aim of informing Canadian drug policy and contributing to public understanding of drugs' relative harms. METHODS: A panel composed of 20 experts from six provinces determined 16 drugs to evaluate on 16 dimensions of harm (ten representing harm to people who use the drug; six representing harm to others). At a two-day decision conference, the panel scored each drug

Methodological Approaches for Incorporating Marginalized Populations into HPV Vaccine Modeling: A Systematic Review.

Background. Delineation of historically marginalized populations in decision models can identify strategies to improve equity but requires assumptions in both model structure and stratification of input data. Purpose. We sought to characterize alternative methodological approaches for incorporating marginalized populations into human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine decision-support models. Data Sources. We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Embase from January 2006 through June 2022. Study Selection. We identified simulation models of HPV vaccination that refine any mode

Attaining consensus on a core dataset for upper limb lymphoedema using the Delphi method: A foundational step in creating a clinical support system.

Background: Lymphoedema is a condition of localised swelling caused by a compromised lymphatic system. The protein-rich fluid accumulating in the interstitial tissue can create inflammation and irreversible changes to the skin and underlying tissue. An array of methods has been used to assess and report these changes. Heterogeneity is evident in the clinic and in the literature for the domains assessed, outcomes and outcome measures selected, measurement protocols followed, methods of analysis, and descriptors used to report change. Objective: This study seeks consensus on the required items f

A multi criteria decision analysis (MCDA) for evaluating and appraising government policy responses to non medical heroin use.

BACKGROUND: Globally, non-medical heroin use is generating significant public health and social harms, and drug policy about heroin is a controversial field that encompasses many complex issues. Policy responses to illegal heroin markets have varied from militarized eradication of the opium poppy and harsh punishment of users, to more tolerant harm reduction approaches with decriminalized possession and use. METHODS: This paper reports the outcomes of a multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) on four generic regulatory regimes of heroin: prohibition, decriminalisation, state control and free

Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis Model for Assessing the Risk from Multi-Ingredient Dietary Supplements (MIDS).

Military personnel use dietary supplements (DS) for performance enhancement, bodybuilding, weight loss, and to maintain health. Adverse events, including cardiovascular (CV) effects, have been reported in military personnel taking supplements. Previous research determined that ingestion of multi-ingredient dietary supplements (MIDS), can lead to signals of safety concerns. Therefore, to assess the safety of MIDS, the Department of Defense via a contractor explored the development of a model-based risk assessment tool. We present a strategy and preliminary novel multi-criteria decision analysis

Prediction models in women with postmenopausal bleeding: a systematic review.

Postmenopausal bleeding is associated with an elevated risk of having endometrial cancer. The aim of this review is to give an overview of existing prediction models on endometrial cancer in women with postmenopausal bleeding. In a systematic search of the literature, we identified nine prognostic studies, of which we assessed the quality, the different phases of development and their performance. From these data, we identified the most important predictor variables. None of the detected models completed external validation or impact analysis. Models including power Doppler showed best perform
