Consensus-Based Learning Objectives for PM&R Clinical Rotations.

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is a medical specialty that often gets less exposure during medical school rotations compared to other, larger specialties. In addition, there are limited standardized learning objectives available to guide the creation of PM&R clinical experiences. This study serves to address the existing gap in PM&R learning objectives for medical school clinical experiences, utilizing the modified Delphi process to reach consensus. Seven PM&R medical education leaders created a list of PM&R- specific learning objectives. Using the modified Delphi technique, a gro

The extended postoperative complication score: A dual-axis reporting plan for general surgery.

BACKGROUND: Grading surgical complications and sequelae is of paramount importance for analyzing results and improving patient care and system performance and in optimizing resource allocation and use. Existing systems for surgical complication classification do not consistently account for baseline physiologic vulnerability and often conflate treatment intensity with clinical severity. This limitation reduces interpretability across diverse patient populations, particularly in emergency and elective general surgery. METHODS: A multidisciplinary expert panel conducted a modified Delphi proces

Redefining specific learning disabilities: An attempt to bridge research, policy, and practice through expert consensus.

The definition and identification of specific learning disability (SLD) remain highly contested, with divergent interpretations shaping research, policy, and practice. This study employed the Delphi Method to engage a panel of experts in synthesizing perspectives on how SLD should be defined and what forms of evidence are necessary to support valid identification methods. Key points of agreement included the centrality of academic deficits, unexpected underachievement, environmental considerations, and exclusionary criteria. Most panelists referenced a neurobiological basis for SLD, though per

Tool for assessing food industry commitments and practices to address the double burden of malnutrition: a Delphi study.

BACKGROUND: Many low- and middle-income countries face a double burden of malnutrition, i.e., a co-occurrence of undernutrition with overweight, obesity, or other diet-related noncommunicable diseases. In an increasingly connected global food system, multinational and domestic food industry actors - through their commercial practices and corporate political activity - both contribute to the double burden of malnutrition and hold potential to address it. Systematic monitoring of relevant industry commitments and practices may help to hold industry accountable and foster constructive engagement.

Establishing best-practice statements for post-custody community transition: Insights from a modified Delphi study.

INTRODUCTION: The transition from custody to community is a critical juncture for people exiting custody, necessitating substantial support. However, the programs and services providing this support are often fragmented and lack a unified approach in terms of terminology, design, resourcing, timing, delivery, and monitoring and evaluation. This study sought to establish an agreed terminology and promote a broader consensus on best practices relating to these programs and services. METHODS: We used a two-phased Delphi methodology to provide a structured, formal, and iterative process for gathe

A Consensus Statement for Ecological Medicine: Moving Toward Connection-Based Medicine.

Mounting evidence across multiple disciplines supports the health benefits of connection to nature. Although this trend suggests that the human-nature relationship is integral to health, its importance is often overlooked in clinical practice due, in part, to lack of consensus on its scope, limits, and terminology. To fill a needed gap, we developed a consensus statement on an inter-connectivity based view of health termed Ecological Medicine. The study recruited an expert working group and used modified Delphi technique and focus groups. The Ecological Medicine Working Group was directed towa

Toward a consensus on dyslexia: findings from a Delphi study.

BACKGROUND: Dyslexia is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders. There have been many definitions over the past century, and debate continues as to how dyslexia should be defined. This debate contributes to confusion and misinformation. We move beyond the debate by establishing areas of consensus among a wide range of experts. METHODS: We conducted a Delphi study with a panel of dyslexia experts, including academics, specialist teachers, educational psychologists, and individuals with dyslexia, asking them for their views on a set of key statements about dyslexia. We carried out t
