Can 3-Dimensional Printing for Calcaneal Fracture Surgery Decrease Operation Time and Improve Quality of Fracture Reduction?

We investigated whether 3-dimensional (3D) printed models can decrease operation time and improve the quality of reduction for calcaneal fractures. The study involved 48 patients with unilateral intra-articular calcaneal fractures, who were retrospectively case-matched according to Sander's classification, age, and sex. Group A (24 patients) was operated using 3D printed models as a preoperative and intraoperative tool, and group B (24 patients) was operated using standard techniques without 3D printed model. Operation time was significantly shorter for group A, compared to group B (82.3 ± 13.

Anatomical and Technical Predictors of Three-Dimensional Mitral Valve Area Reduction After Transcatheter Edge-To-Edge Repair.

BACKGROUND: Among current transcatheter therapies for the treatment of mitral regurgitation, the MitraClip (MC; Abbott Vascular, Abbott Park, IL) system is the most commonly used. MitraClip implantation is usually contraindicated in patients with a mitral valve area (MVA) < 4.0 cm2. However, little is known about the real impact of MC implantation on MVA. Our goal was to investigate the factors influencing MVA reduction and derive the minimal MVA required to prevent the development of a clinically significant mitral stenosis (MVA < 1.5 cm2) in different clinical scenarios. METHODS: Using thre

Three-dimensional assessment of accuracy for open reduction and internal fixation of the subcondylar fracture and its implications on the TMJ function.

This study used three-dimensional cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to assist the accuracy of open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for the unilateral subcondylar fracture and the long-term temporomandibular joint (TMJ) function impairment. Bilateral TMJs were analyzed postoperatively on CBCT images, involving the following three-dimensional (3D) parameters: condylar position and inclination; circumferential joint space, ramus, and mandible length; and the volumetric joint space. The inclusion criteria for adult patients included having a displaced fracture >5°, a shortening in ramus

Three-dimensional reduction and finite element analysis improves the treatment of pelvic malunion reconstructive surgery: A case report.

RATIONALE: Pelvic malunion is a rare complication and is technically challenging to correct owing to the complex three-dimensional (3D) geometry of the pelvic girdle. Hence, precise preoperative planning is required to ensure appropriate correction. Reconstructive surgery is generally a 2- or 3-stage procedure, with transiliac osteotomy serving as an alternative to address limb length discrepancy. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 38-year-old female patient with a Mears type IV pelvic malunion with previous failed reconstructive surgery was admitted to our department due to progressive immobilization, incr

Three-dimensional assessment of zygomatic malunion using computed tomography in patients with cheek ptosis caused by reduction malarplasty.

BACKGROUND: Reduction malarplasty is one of the most popular aesthetic surgical procedures for reshaping facial contour in oriental people. Especially for those who have a wide midface and a prominent zygoma. Although malunion and cheek ptosis are known as major complications in reduction malarplasty, but there have been few reports about their causes and patterns. The authors experienced many revision reduction malarplasty using the coronal approach to correct cheek ptosis with malunion and were able to categorize the types of malunion by analyzing 3-dimensional CT imaging prior to revision s

Accelerated acidogenic fermentation and sulfate reduction with mariculture solid waste by magnetite-modified three-dimensional electro-fermentation system.

Electro-fermentation exhibits great potential for mariculture solid waste (MSW) treatment. However, the performance of electro-fermentation is constrained by the low electron transfer efficiency within MSW. In this study, a three-dimensional electro-fermentation system packed with magnetite-modified granular activated carbon was developed to accelerate acidogenic fermentation and sulfate reduction with MSW. The results indicate that optimal performance was achieved at an applied voltage of 0.6 V, leading to a 92.9% enhancement in short-chain fatty acids production and an acetic acid proportion

A Phenazine-Based Two-Dimensional Covalent Organic Framework for Photochemical CO2 Reduction with Increased Selectivity for Two-Carbon Products.

The reduction of carbon dioxide (CO₂) into valuable products will contribute to sustainable carbon use. Here we report the photocatalytic reduction of CO₂ to carbon monoxide, formate, and oxalate ions using a redox-active phenazine-based 2D covalent organic framework (Phen-COF) and its phenazine monomer. Under similar irradiation conditions, Phen-COF produced 2.9 times more CO, 11 times more formate, and 13 times more oxalate compared to equimolar amounts of the monomeric phenazine, demonstrating that the COF architecture enhances catalytic performance (TOFCOF: 10-7 s-1 CO, 10-8 s-1 formate, a

AFIS-CL technique: A posterior reduction method enabling three-dimensional control in vertically unstable pelvic ring injuries.

Achieving accurate reduction of a displaced hemipelvis in vertically unstable posterior pelvic ring injuries remains technically challenging. We describe a reproducible posterior reduction technique, termed the Anchored-Free Inter-Screw with Cobb Leverage (AFIS-CL) technique, which utilizes an anchored reference screw, a plate-independent free screw, controlled compression with a Jungbluth clamp, and adjunctive leverage using a Cobb's elevator. Reduction is performed through a posterior approach without skeletal traction, allowing direct intraoperative control of hemipelvic alignment. Sequenti

Longitudinal reduction in fluoroscopy with continued use of 3-dimensional electroanatomic mapping systems in catheter ablation of supraventricular tachycardia - then and now.

BACKGROUND: Catheter ablation is a first-line treatment for symptomatic, recurrent supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). This study aims to demonstrate if 3D-electroanatomic mapping (EAM) during SVT ablation reduces fluoroscopy time (FT) and determine if further reductions in FT are observed longitudinally. METHODS: All cases of SVT ablation between May 2011-May 2022 at a single tertiary centre were prospectively recruited. FT between the cohorts with and without EAM were compared. Within the EAM subset, the trend of FT across the years was analysed. RESULTS: There were 1758 cases included, 56

Effect of Intraoperative Three-Dimensional Imaging During the Reduction and Fixation of Displaced Calcaneal Fractures on Articular Congruence and Implant Fixation.

BACKGROUND: Operative treatment of displaced calcaneal fractures should restore joint congruence, but conventional fluoroscopy is unable to fully visualize the subtalar joint. We questioned whether intraoperative 3-dimensional (3D) imaging would aid in the reduction of calcaneal fractures, resulting in improved articular congruence and implant positioning.
