RATIONALE: Ileum-ileum-colon intussusception constitutes a small proportion of the classification of intussusception. Both adult intussusception and Meckel's diverticulum are rare clinical entities, with few reports documenting Meckel's diverticulum inversion leading to ileum-ileum-colon intussusception in adults.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 33-year-old Chinese male presented with intermittent abdominal pain persisting for 1 month, that had intensified over the preceding day.
DIAGNOSES: Abdominal computed tomography revealed intussusception, suspected to be secondary to a small intestinal lipoma.

INTRODUCTION: Carcinoma arising from a colonic diverticulum is extremely rare, with only 21 cases being reported in the literature. Accurate pathological assessment of lesions within diverticula is often challenging due to distortion or discontinuity of the muscularis mucosae, which may lead to misjudgment of invasion depth and inappropriate therapeutic decisions.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 74-year-old female with a history of left breast cancer and prior endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for a 7-mm transverse colon cancer 14 years earlier. Histopathology at that time reveale

Traumatic abdominal wall hernia (TAWH) is a rare but serious condition resulting from blunt abdominal trauma, characterized by the herniation of bowel or abdominal organs through a disrupted musculature and fascia without skin penetration. This report describes a unique case of a 24-year-old man who sustained a high-velocity blunt abdominal injury from a motorcycle handlebar during a road traffic accident. The clinical presentation, diagnostic challenges, surgical intervention, and postoperative recovery are discussed to emphasize the importance of the early recognition and management of TAWH

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Diverticular disease is increasingly prevalent. Giant colonic diverticulum (GCD) is an extremely rare but potentially serious complication of diverticular disease. Although uncommon, prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent severe complications. Typical symptoms include abdominal pain and fever. Diagnosis is primarily achieved through computed tomography (CT). Surgical resection of the affected colonic segment with primary anastomosis represents the mainstay of treatment. This case report aims to describe a GCD complicated by a sigmoidovesical fistul

Giant colonic diverticulum (GCD) is a rare complication of colonic diverticulosis. A small number of cases has been reported in the literature. Patients with GCD have often few non-specific symptoms. Unfortunately, severe complications exist and may lead to surgical acute abdomen. Therefore, this complication of the diverticular disease must be known and properly treated. There is no gold standard diagnostic test, but an air-fluid or air-filled, rounded, pseudocystic image in relation with the colonic wall in a patient with colonic diverticula should suggest this diagnosis to the clinician. There are two types of cecal diverticula: in the first type, the diverticula are often multiple, and they really are false diverticula like in sigmoiditis. The second type, the so-called single type, is a frequently single diverticulum with a complete wall, which may have a congenital origin. Cecal diverticula are often expressed between 45 and 55 years of age by symptoms mimicking appendicitis. Two signs may suggest the diagnosis: the virtual absence of nausea and vomiting, and the long delay before the onset of pain. The surgical treatment, in case of acute complications (perforation, absces

INTRODUCTION: Giant colonic diverticulum (GCD), a rare complication of the diverticular disease, can present with a wide range of nonspecific symptoms as abdominal pain and bowel obstruction. Its diagnosis represents a challenge that mainly depends on imaging findings.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report the case of a 79 year-old female patient that came to our emergency department complaining of 5-day history of hypogastric pain and constipation. Physical examination reveled a 15cm hypogastric round, tender and tympanic mass. Enhanced abdominal CT scan showed a large air-filled cyst adjacent to

The patient was a 79-year-old male in whom a neoplastic lesion was found in the sigmoid colon diverticulum during a follow-up colonoscopy for colorectal adenoma. Endoscopic treatment was difficult, and the patient was referred to our department for surgery. The patient had many underlying diseases, including angina pectoris, interstitial pneumonia, and diabetic nephropathy, and the decision was made to perform local resection as a minimally invasive treatment. The patient was treated with laparoscopic excision of the sigmoid colon, followed by a small laparotomy and intraoperative endoscopy to

OBJECTIVES: The colonoscopic identification of stigmata of recent hemorrhage (SRH) in patients with colonic diverticular bleeding (CDB) is difficult. Factors that influence the identification of SRH in the diagnosis of CDB were investigated.
METHODS: This was a retrospective study of 487 early colonoscopy patients with acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding who were diagnosed with CDB. Comorbidities, medications, bowel preparation, use of a transparent cap, use of a water-jet scope, colonoscopy by an expert colonoscopist, and use of a nontraumatic (NT) tube were assessed. A multivariate analys

Meckel's diverticulum is a common congenital malformation of the gastrointestinal tract, reported to be present in 2-4% of the population. Although most patients with Meckel's diverticulum remain asymptomatic throughout life, reports of acute inflammation, perforation, haemorrhage, intussusception, intestinal obstruction, vesicodiverticular fistulae and primary tumours are described. We present a rare diagnosis of diverticulotransverse colonic fistula and its management.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Helicobacter pylori is a microorganism known to colonize in gastric type of mucosa and is associated with gastritis and peptic ulceration. The aim of the study was to determine whether colonization of H pylori in heterotopic gastric mucosa plays a role in bleeding of Meckel's diverticulum.
METHODS: Histopathologic slides of patients who had undergone resection of Meckel's diverticulum in recent 5 years were reexamined for the presence of H pylori in heterotopic gastric mucosa. Polimerase chain reaction (PCR) test was used to trace the genetic material of urease gene and 16

BACKGROUND Foreign body (FB) ingestion is a common problem in children. In a report of adult FB ingestion, 56% of cases involved individuals with mental illness; the most common foreign bodies were batteries (23%), drug-filled balloons for intervention (17%), razor blades (16%), and others. Standard management of an accidentally swallowed button battery (BB) is radiographic evaluation followed by natural passage through the gastrointestinal tract after traversing the esophagus and stomach. Although cases of BB retention in Meckel's diverticulum have been documented, no reports have described r

BACKGROUND: Naldemedine is an orally available peripherally acting μ-opioid receptor antagonist approved to treat opioid-induced constipation (OIC). It is contraindicated for patients with known or suspected gastrointestinal obstruction to protect against naldemedine-induced perforation. Here, we report a clinical case of suspected perforation of a diverticulum in the sigmoid colon associated with naldemedine.
CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was a 65-year-old man with a history of oral cancer who had been prescribed oxycodone (20 mg/day) for cancer pain. On day 0, the patient started naldemedi

BACKGROUND: Fecal impaction is defined as a large mass of compacted feces in the colon and has the potential to induce a serious medical condition in elderly individuals. Fecal impaction is generally preventable, and early recognition of the typical radiological findings is important for making an early diagnosis. The factors that lead to fecal impaction are usually similar to those causing constipation. Few cases with fecal impaction associated with a diverticulum have been reported.
CASE SUMMARY: We present the case of a 62-year-old woman who suffered from abdominal pain and vomiting, had a

BACKGROUND Diverticulosis and its complication of diverticulitis is a common condition that can be found in up to 35% of the population. Giant colonic diverticulum is a rare entity with fewer than 200 cases reported in the scientific literature. Development of a giant diverticulum as a sequelae of laparoscopic washout is an unreported event in current literature. CASE REPORT The patient was a 74-year-old female who had a well-known history of diverticulosis and diverticulitis. She developed perforated sigmoid diverticulitis, underwent laparoscopic washout and recovered without colon resection.

PURPOSE: To investigate the possible relationships between sigmoid diverticula, the volume of the left lateral segment of the liver and sigmoid colon volvulus.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The presence of sigmoid diverticula was analyzed in 36 patients (24 men, 12 women; mean age, 70.77±19.86 [SD] years) with sigmoid volvulus (group 1). The volumes of left lateral segment of the liver (i.e., segments 2 and 3 and further referred to as liver 1), liver 2 (i.e., segments 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8), total liver volume and liver volume ratio (LVR) (i.e., [liver 1/liver 2]×100) were calculated from abdominal CT

Diagnosis of perforation of a solitary diverticulum of transverse colon followed the discovery at operation of an abdominal mass, ultrasound and CT scan imaging demonstrating a heterogeneous mass of enhanced density provoking apparent extrinsic compression of colon. A literature review showed the rarity of this complication, only 22 cases being reported but associated almost constantly with a pseudo-tumoral abscess centered on the diverticulum. This was the case in the patient reported but current imaging methods (ultrasound and particularly CT scanning) allowed correct evaluation of the natur

Incidental gastrointestinal findings are commonly detected on MDCT exams performed for various medical indications. This review describes the radiological MDCT spectrum of appearances already present in the past literature and in today's experience of several gastrointestinal acute conditions such as abdominal hernia, giant colon diverticulum, GIST, intestinal pneumatosis, colon ischemia, cold intussusception, gallstone ileus, and foreign bodies which can require medical and surgical intervention or clinical follow-up. The clinical presentation of this illness is frequently nonspecific: abdomi
