Auditory Hallucination Simulation and the Development of Empathy Among Undergraduate Nursing Students: An Integrative Review.

BACKGROUND: Auditory hallucinations (AHs) are perceptual experiences that can impact communication, daily functioning, and safety. Empathy is essential for effective therapeutic engagement. Nursing students often report feeling unprepared in dealing with individuals who experience AHs. Auditory hallucination simulation (AHSim) has been used in undergraduate nursing education as an experiential learning strategy to enhance empathy and insight. However, evidence regarding its impact on empathy among undergraduate nursing students remains limited. AIMS: This integrative review aimed to synthesiz

The effectiveness of an educational intervention in changing nursing practice and preventing catheter-related infection for patients receiving total parenteral nutrition.

Catheter-related infections are one of the most serious complications of TPN therapy. Nurses have important responsibilities in the care of patients who are receiving TPN. This quasi-experimental study was conducted for the purpose of investigating the effectiveness of an educational intervention on changing nursing practice and preventing catheter-related infections in patients receiving total parenteral nutrition. The nurses' practice and the colonisation rate of control and comparative group patients in the surgical clinics of Hacettepe University Hospital (Turkey), and related variables we

Retrospective data on the incidence and demographics of patients who underwent general anesthesia with NMB were also examined. DESIGN: The design was an educational intervention with a pre and post-test, which assessed knowledge and confidence scores of PACU nurses. The nurses completed a

Improving the Recognition and Assessment of ICU Delirium.

BACKGROUND: Delirium is acute neurological failure that alters cognition and results in a state of confusion and lack of self-awareness. It commonly affects critically ill patients within intensive care units (ICUs), and the wide array of fluctuating symptoms frequently leads to underdiagnosis. Delirium results in cognitive impairment and increased rates of fatality, and accurate assessments are essential for improving patient outcomes. Barriers to delirium assessment stem from a lack of knowledge and assessment training among ICU nurses. METHOD: Using the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Alli

Factors associated with role strain among male nursing students: Insights from stress-coping and stress-buffering frameworks.

BACKGROUND: Men remain markedly underrepresented in the global nursing workforce, and male nursing students frequently encounter gender stereotypes, limited clinical opportunities, and inadequate professional support during their training. These gender-related experiences may hinder professional socialization and contribute to greater role strain. Although previous studies have examined stress and role strain among nursing students, comprehensive quantitative evidence on the prevalence and associated factors of role strain among male nursing students, particularly those in Western China, remai

Secondary Traumatic Stress in Nursing Students: An Integrative Review.

BACKGROUND: Nurses have frequent interactions with traumatized individuals and may develop secondary traumatic stress (STS). Similarly, nursing students are at risk for STS development while completing clinical training. PURPOSE: To critique and synthesize available research on the prevalence, severity, and experience of STS and its associated factors in prelicensure nursing students. METHODS: The Whittemore and Knafl integrative review methodology was used to perform structured searches of 6 electronic databases. RESULTS: Twenty-five studies met the inclusion criteria. Comparing the effects of jigsaw and lecture-based education on nurses' attitudes and screening competency toward delirium in the intensive care units: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Hospitalization in the ICU is closely related to unwanted complications, including delirium. This condition generally occurs in the form of acute changes in mental status, and frequent fluctuation courses. As delirium can be potentially prevented, providing appropriate education to nurses to deal with its associated risk factors and properly managing it seems to be imperative. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A randomized clinical trial with two parallel groups was done in two referral educational hospitals. In total, 75 ICU nurses were included. The nurses were randomly divided into, the j

Educational approaches to enhance genomics competencies among health sciences students: A scoping review with implications for nursing education.

INTRODUCTION: Genomics is increasingly recognized as essential for precision health, yet its integration into undergraduate nursing and other health sciences curricula remains limited. Persistent gaps in genomics literacy and confidence among students and professionals indicate that current educational approaches may not adequately prepare graduates for genomics-informed care and precision health. The aim of this review is to map educational approaches and methods used to enhance genomic competencies among undergraduate health sciences students and discuss implications for nursing education.

Stressors and imposter phenomenon among master's nursing students: The mediating roles of self-efficacy and perceived stress.

BACKGROUND: The imposter phenomenon is prevalent in nursing academia and may be associated with poorer psychological well-being and professional development among nursing students. Master's nursing students, in particular, are exposed to multiple stressors that may be associated with the imposter phenomenon. However, this phenomenon remains underexplored within the context of Chinese master's nursing education. OBJECTIVE: Guided by the ABC-X model, this study aimed to examine the associations among stressors, self-efficacy, perceived stress, and the imposter phenomenon among master's nursing

Setting the Foundation for an In Situ Simulation Program Through the Development of a Malignant Hyperthermia Simulation in the Operating Room.

This article reviews the VA Manchester Healthcare System's journey to develop a robust simulation program and how an in situ simulation for malignant hyperthermia (MH) laid the foundation. Nurse educators collaborated with a certified registered nurse anesthetist to develop a simulation in the operating room using our MH protocol, which included the support of the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States. The positive reaction from this in situ training led to additional simulation requests for the education department. [J Contin Educ Nurs. 2020;51(11):523-527.].

The role of the nurse post-renal transplantation.

The previous article explored the role of the nurse pre-renal transplantation, which addressed the physical, psychological and educational support that the patient and family members require prior to this life-changing surgery. The following article explores the continual role of the nurse in caring for and educating the patient post-renal transplantation. Renal transplantation is considered the optimal treatment of choice for patients with end-stage renal failure (ESRF) and who are receiving dialysis. The nurse plays a pivotal role in assisting the patient in facing the many challenges that a
