Provision of emergency contraception by nurses: a way forward to increased access.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of the study were to assess the suitability of a service for provision of emergency hormonal contraception by nurses. METHODS: Retrospective analysis was carried out of data obtained from the case records of 500 consecutive women who attended ABACUS (a city center-based family planning clinic in Liverpool, UK) for emergency contraception during the 7th and 9th months of the first year (1994) of the service. Similar data were collected for 100 consecutive women during 1 month of the third year (June 1996). The number of women who received emergency hormonal contracep

Implementation of an emergency nursing pathway reduces emergency department length of stay in trauma: Retrospective analysis and machine learning-based risk modeling.

Timely, organized emergency care is critical for patients with severe trauma, particularly in primary hospitals where resources and workflows may be constrained. This study evaluated the effect of implementing an emergency nursing pathway (ENP) on emergency management of injured patients in a county-level hospital and developed a predictive model to identify factors associated with outcomes. We retrospectively reviewed patients with trauma treated at The First People's Hospital of Jiande between August 2023 and July 2025. Patients were allocated at random into a training cohort (70%) and a val

[From emergency derogation to normalization of the exception: implications for the nursing profession in Italy].

. From emergency derogation to normalization of the exception: implications for the nursing profession in Italy. The Italian emergency provision allowing foreign-trained nurses to practice without prior formal recognition, introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic under Decree-Law 18/2020, has progressively evolved from a temporary measure into a structural workforce strategy. Under the ordinary pathway, foreign qualifications must undergo ministerial recognition, verification of substantial equivalence, language certification, and registration with the Provincial Nursing Board (OPI). The deroga

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: The treatment of limb amputation is always a challenge to emergency medical staff. The success of replantation of severed limbs requires not only emergency professional nursing measures but also rapid transport against time. We that found emergency specialist nursing combined with green channel mode can effectively improve the success rate of amputated limb replantation surgery. METHODS: From September 2017 to August 2020, the medical records of 80 patients with severed limb replantation treated by the emergency department of our hospital were collected and divided into the contro

Characteristics of outpatient emergency department visits of nursing home residents: an analysis of discharge letters.

BACKGROUND: Unplanned emergency department (ED) visits of nursing home residents (NHR) are common, with many transfers not leading to hospitalization. However, there is little research on what diagnostic and therapeutic measures are performed during visits. AIMS: We analyzed underlying diagnoses, characteristics and performed medical procedures of unplanned outpatient ED visits by NHR. METHODS: We conducted a multi-center study of 14 nursing homes (NHs) in northwestern Germany in 03/2018-07/2019. Hospital transfers were documented by nursing staff using a standardized questionnaire for 12 mo

Nursing students' experiences of being video-recorded during examination in a fictive emergency care situation.

Promoting undergraduate nursing students' learning in simulated care can be achieved through dynamic scenario-based training sessions that are documented using simple video equipment. One valuable aspect of this kind of training is the subsequent reflective dialogue that takes place between the teacher and the students during the examination. The aim of the present paper is to describe bachelor nursing students' experiences of being video-recorded during an examination with a simulated patient in emergency care. The study was descriptive in design and used a qualitative approach with written a

A survey of violence toward nursing staff in one large Irish Accident and Emergency Department.

INTRODUCTION: Nurses in Ireland are increasingly concerned about the escalating incidence of verbal and physical abuse, particularly in Accident and Emergency (A&E) Departments. This first detailed survey of violence in A&E departments in Ireland was conducted at St. James's Hospital, Dublin, the largest hospital in the Republic of Ireland. The aims of the survey included determining the following factors: (1) what proportion of staff had experienced physical or verbal violence while on duty in the hospital, (2) the frequency of such attacks, (3) whether the violence was officially reported an

Strengthening resilience in nursing homes: The role of emergency preparedness in mitigating COVID-19 outcomes.

This study investigates the relationship between compliance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) emergency preparedness standards and COVID-19 morbidity and mortality rates in U.S. nursing homes. Given the severe impact of COVID-19 on nursing home residents, this research addresses how preparedness influences pandemic outcomes. Using publicly available datasets from CMS and FEMA covering the period 2017 to 2021, a retrospective and longitudinal analysis was conducted. Multiple linear regression analyses were employed to evaluate the association between emergency preparedness d

Repeat emergency department visits by nursing home residents: a cohort study using health administrative data.

BACKGROUND: Nursing home (NH) residents are frequent users of emergency departments (ED) and while prior research suggests that repeat visits are common, there is little data describing this phenomenon. Our objectives were to describe repeat ED visits over one year, identify risk factors for repeat use, and characterize "frequent" ED visitors. METHODS: Using provincial administrative data from Ontario, Canada, we identified all NH residents 65 years or older who visited an ED at least once between January 1 and March 31, 2010 and then followed them for one year to capture all additional ED vi

Nurses' perspectives on implementing pediatric palliative care: a qualitative participatory study on the emerging role of the advanced practice nurse.

UNLABELLED: The implementation of Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC) in hospital settings places considerable demands on nursing staff, particularly during early phases of change. This study explored nurses' experiences, attitudes, and perceived support needs during the early implementation of a PPC concept at a tertiary pediatric hospital in Austria. A qualitative participatory design was applied. Four moderated focus group discussions were conducted with 18 registered nurses working on two pediatric wards where PPC beds were newly introduced. Data were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and

Evaluation of the performance of nursing students taught using online and offline learning models in emergency and critical care nursing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

AIM: The study investigated the outcomes of employing this hybrid method among nursing students engaged in emergency and critical care curricula during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: A retrospective study examined nursing students enrolled in the nursing program in China between January 2019 and January 2021. Students were divided into two groups: a study group that engaged in hybrid learning and a control group that participated in traditional classroom learning. Both groups received identical learning materials and credit hours. The study group assessed online learning via a platform with
