Predicting educational and social-emotional outcomes in emerging adulthood from intelligence, personality, and socioeconomic status.

Emerging adulthood describes the developmental life stage between adolescence and adulthood, when young people gain important educational and social-emotional skills. Here, we tested to what extent intelligence and personality traits in adolescence, family socioeconomic status (SES), and their interplay predict educational (e.g., educational attainment, degree classification) and social-emotional outcomes (e.g., well-being, volunteering, substance use) in emerging adulthood in a U.K.-representative sample (N = 2,277). Intelligence, personality traits, and family SES accounted together for up t

Impairment in Emotional Intelligence May Be Mood-Dependent in Bipolar I and Bipolar II Disorders.

Background: An emotional intelligence (EI) deficit has been noticed in euthymic bipolar spectrum disorder (BD) patients. However, whether this deficit is affected by mood or subtype is unclear. Objectives:The aim of this study was to investigate whether an EI deficit is mood-dependent, and which mood symptoms have more impact on EI in BD. Methods: Two hundred and thirty participants aged between 18 and 65 years old were recruited [130 BD patients (51 bipolar I disorder (BDI) and 79 bipolar II disorder (BDII): 39.2% males; 91 healthy controls (HCs): 48.4% males)]. The role of yoga in shaping emotional intelligence and life satisfaction in the context of personal relationships.

This study examines the relationship between yoga practice and socioemotional functioning, comparing practitioners and non-practitioners across dimensions of emotional intelligence and social relationship patterns. Results indicate that yoga practitioners reported higher levels of emotion understanding and emotion control, but lower cognitive empathy and lower levels of support given to friends. A moderation analysis showed that yoga practice moderated the association between empathy and life satisfaction: empathy positively predicted life satisfaction in non-practitioners but not in regular p

Mental health literacy and help-seeking: the mediating role of self-stigma and emotional intelligence.

When faced with mental health concerns, help-seeking can be a useful means to seek and receive help from formal support sources-such as mental health professionals, as well as informal support sources-such as friends and family. Both the intention and tendency to engage in formal help-seeking are predicted by mental health literacy, self-stigma, and emotional intelligence; however, the role that each of these factors play in relation to informal help-seeking is less clear. The current study examined the predictive value of mental health literacy with respect to both formal and informal help-se

When emotional intelligence measures disagree: discordant profiles in allied health students and why classification uncertainty matters.

INTRODUCTION: Emotional intelligence (EI) is widely studied in health professions education, but two methodological habits limit the field: EI is usually treated as a single continuous predictor, and person-centered studies typically assign students to profiles and then test associations as though those assignments were certain. We addressed both issues, and a third that emerged from our own data: the validity of the profile solution itself. METHODS: Allied health sciences undergraduates at Kuwait University completed two self-report EI measures: the Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence

Toward a Culturally Situated SDT-EI Model of emotional intelligence in physical education: a narrative review.

Emotional intelligence (EI) has emerged as a pivotal construct in educational psychology; however, understanding of how physical education (PE) contributes to its development remains fragmented. Eight prior systematic reviews have concluded that PE can develop EI, but three gaps persist: no integration across educational stages, no unified mechanistic account, and no cross-cultural perspective-despite emerging evidence that EI pathways differ across cultural contexts. This narrative review synthesizes 64 publications-including primary studies, eight systematic reviews, and meta-analyses publis
