OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the influence of epididymitis history on the results of microsurgical vasoepididymostomy and spontaneous pregnancy in patients with epididymal obstruction.
METHODS: Totally 205 patients with epididymal obstruction underwent microsurgical two-suture longitudinal intussusception vasoepididymostomy from January 2014 to December 2016. After surgery, we evaluated the semen quality of the patients every 3 months till conception and compared the rates of patency and spontaneous pregnancy between the patients with and those without an epididymitis history.

While microbial infections are responsible for infectious epididymitis, the etiological factors contributing to noninfectious epididymitis remain to be defined. Actinobaculum schaalii is a Gram-positive coccoid rod that causes various infections in humans and is easily overlooked in cultures. A. schaalii has long been thought to be of low prevalence and limited invasive potential, causing benign cystitis in elderly patients with underlying urological conditions. Individuals involved in sports are at risk for sustaining various injuries. In addition to musculoskeletal complaints, male athletes are at risk of incurring testicular injuries. These issues can range from an acute emergency such as testicular torsion to indolent testicular tumors. In contrast, epididymitis can present in stages. Presentation and management of testicular complaints can vary depending on the condition. Physicians who provide medical care to athletes need to be competent in diagnosing and managing testicular injuries.

The incidence of tuberculosis in the United States is on the rise, in part, because of its association with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Genitourinary tuberculosis remains one of the most common forms of secondary or extrapulmonary disease. We present an unusual case of tuberculous epididymitis with extensive retroperitoneal and mediastinal spread. The possible routes of dissemination, as well as the efficacy of antimycobacterial therapy in the management of tuberculous epididymitis, are discussed and the relevant literature is reviewed.

PURPOSE: This paper presents the sonographic findings in scrotums of patients affected with tuberculous epididymitis or epididymo-orchitis.
METHODS: Eighteen patients with a total of 22 abnormal hemiscrotums (4 patients had bilateral lesions) underwent scrotal sonography. Pathologic confirmation was obtained via epididymectomy in 10 cases, epididymo-orchiectomy in 7 cases, and scrotal exploration and biopsy in 3 cases. The histopathologic diagnosis was tuberculous epididymitis in 12 cases and epididymo-orchitis in 8 cases.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: To evaluate the effectiveness of testicular scintigraphy in differentiating testicular torsion from acute epididymitis.

The differentiation between torsion and epididymitis can be extremely difficult because only 50% or less of cases involving testicular torsion exhibit the classically expected findings. Therefore a careful history and complete analysis of the physical and laboratory findings are warranted. When needed, the judicious use of collaborative tests will point the clinician toward the appropriate diagnosis.

An unusual case of tuberculous epididymitis occurring 35 years after renal tuberculosis is reported. The possible mechanisms of this delayed presentation of the epididymal lesion are discussed. This case emphasizes the importance of adequate treatment as well as long-term followup of patients with genitourinary tuberculosis.

Cefoperazone (CPZ) was intravenously administered to rabbits and the concentration of CPZ in the accessory male genitals was determined. The epididymis, prostate and testicles had a high enough concentration of CPZ to kill various kinds of bacteria. Therefore, CPZ was applied to 11 clinical cases of acute epididymitis and 4 cases of acute prostatitis, but clinical effects were not so satisfactory in the cases of acute epididymitis.

One hundred and forty-two patients were admitted to the Jordan University Hospital with acute epididymitis between 1973 and 1983. Sixty-five had intravenous urograms which revealed renal tuberculosis in 1 patient, renal or ureteric stones in 10, bladder neck obstruction in 3, unrelated congenital anomalies in 10 and no abnormalities in 41.
