The effects of unfavorably assembled machinery on the workers was analyzed in a spinning-mill. Simple ergonomical methods were used such as: evaluation of the working process, of the movements, measurement of working heights, grasping space, dislocated weights, resistance to operating elements, length of lifting way. The workers were interrogated on their subjective feelings of tiredness and pains, their heart rate was measured. The physical strain and the ailments seem to be in connection with the cervicobrachial syndrome. Possibilities to introduce the proposed improvements were examined.

Using Healthcare-Associated Infection (HCAI) surveillance as a representative model for high-burden administrative tasks, this Perspective argues that healthcare worker fatigue, sleep disruption, and poorly integrated digital systems threaten both occupational health and health-system resilience. Crucially, these problems should be addressed as failures of work-system design rather than deficits in individual resilience. We propose a Human-Centered Digital Ecosystem that places adequate staffing, circadian-aligned scheduling, protected recovery, and supportive organizational conditions before

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Risks associated with exposure to ionizing radiation in patients undergoing electrophysiology procedures and interventional cardiac electrophysiologists performing these procedures are a serious concern. Strategies to reduce radiation exposure are of obvious importance. In addition, interventional cardiac electrophysiologists have to perform procedures wearing heavy lead protection for prolonged periods, making them prone to cervical and lumbar spinal injuries.
RECENT FINDINGS: Recently developed technologies, such as low-exposure radiographic imaging, novel radiographic im

Iridocyclitis and the use of glucocorticoid medication have been widely studied as susceptibility factors for cataracts. However, the causal relationship between them remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between the development of iridocyclitis and the genetic liability of glucocorticoid medication use on the risk of senile cataracts occurrence by performing Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses. Instrumental variables (IVs) significantly associated with exposure factors (P < 5 × 10-8) were identified using published genome-wide association data f

Ergonomics is the science of designing work environments and practices to improve comfort, efficiency, and safety. Traditional cleft surgery often compromises ergonomic principles by requiring surgeons to assume physically taxing positions. Additionally, the limited view of the oral cavity restricts visibility and diminishes the didactic value of the procedure for trainees and operating room staff. To address these challenges, we have adopted the use of an exoscope, a 4K three-dimensional surgical camera system, for cleft palate surgery to promote optimal surgical posture, minimize strain, and

Radiological practice is characterized by a high cognitive workload and is influenced by environmental and organizational factors. This narrative review, based on a structured PubMed literature search, evaluates the role of radiology department design in shaping clinical workflow and improving service quality. Evidence supports a multilevel approach to department design. Structured layouts separating patient, mixed, and staff-only areas can optimize workflow, while "sterile reading rooms" reduce interruptions and improve diagnostic performance. Patient-centered interventions, including optimiz

OBJECTIVE: We review the effects of COVID-19 on the human sense of smell (olfaction) and discuss implications for human-system interactions. We emphasize how critical smell is and how the widespread loss of smell due to COVID-19 will impact human-system interaction.
BACKGROUND: COVID-19 reduces the sense of smell in people who contract the disease. Thus far, olfaction has received relatively little attention from human factors/ergonomics professionals. While smell is not a primary means of human-system communication, humans rely on smell in many important ways related to both quality of life

The ASGE Technology Committee provides reviews of existing, new, or emerging endoscopic technologies that have an impact on the practice of GI endoscopy. Evidence-based methodology is used, by using a MEDLINE literature search to identify pertinent clinical studies on the topic and a MAUDE (U.S. Food and Drug Administration Center for Devices and Radiological Health) database search to identify the reported complications of a given technology. Both are supplemented by accessing the "related articles" feature of PubMed and by scrutinizing pertinent references cited by the identified studies. Co

BACKGROUND: Most surgeons experience work-related pain and musculoskeletal injuries (WRMSI). Though robotic surgery has been speculated to reduce the risk of WRMSI compared to open and laparoscopic approaches, the majority of robotic surgeons still experience neck, back, and upper extremity discomfort. Despite growing use of robot-assisted surgery (RAS), there is limited research on the ergonomic risks faced by robotic surgeons. This study aims to evaluate ergonomic strain during RAS.
METHODS: Artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted video analysis was used on a convenience sample of experienced
