Abbreviated Dialectical Behavior Therapy Virtual Skills Group for Caregivers of Adolescents: An Exploratory Study of Service User and Clinical Outcomes.

Prior work emphasizes involving caregivers in youth mental health services. To support youth with emotion dysregulation, dialectical behavior therapy for adolescents (DBT-A) includes a multi-family skills group, wherein adolescents and caregivers learn skills together. However, limited work has examined the impact of caregiver involvement within DBT-A. The current study examines outcomes of two caregiver-only DBT-A skills groups adapted for abbreviated telehealth delivery. We report on caregivers' (N = 11, 100% mothers, 55% Hispanic) service user outcomes (e.g. self-efficacy at skill usage, gr

Is economic risk proneness in young children (Homo sapiens) driven by exploratory behavior? A comparison with capuchin monkeys (Sapajus apella).

Economic risk proneness is displayed by human children and some nonhuman primate species. To explore the role of attraction toward the unknown and the unexpected in economic choices, 2.5-year-old children and capuchin monkeys were presented in Experiment 1 with a gambling task in which participants had to choose between 2 options, a secure option and a risky option characterized by an unexpected event. In contrast to capuchins, toddlers showed a strong preference for the risky option over the safe option. In Experiment 2, toddlers maintained their risky choices despite the increased salience o

Using the Theory of Planned Behavior to Explain and Predict Areca Nut Use Among Adolescents in India: An Exploratory Study.

CONTEXT: Areca nut, used alone or in combination with tobacco, contributes to the high oral cancer burden in India. Used widely by adolescents, who perceive it as a harmless substance, areca nut is addictive and considered a precursor to tobacco use. Given its serious implications for addictiveness and physical health, urgent preventive interventions for areca nut use are required in India and South-East Asia. Studies examining the role of health behavior theory in explaining and predicting areca nut use and for development of its prevention among adolescents are scarce. AIM: This study explo

The protective role of mindful parenting against child maltreatment and aggressive behavior: an exploratory study among Chinese parent-adolescent dyads.

BACKGROUND: It is well-established that child maltreatment practiced by parents is associated with adolescent aggression. Emerging evidence has suggested that higher levels of mindful parenting are associated with fewer negative parenting practices. However, the relationships among mindful parenting, child maltreatment, and adolescent aggression remain unclear. AIM: To examine the association between mindful parenting, child maltreatment, and adolescent aggressive behavior among Chinese parent-adolescent dyads. METHODS: Survey data from 554 Chinese parent-adolescent dyads were used for the a

Cognitive behavior therapy for comorbid migraine and/or tension-type headache and major depressive disorder: An exploratory randomized controlled trial.

Numerous studies have demonstrated comorbidity between migraine and tension-type headache on the one hand, and depression on the other. Presence of depression is a negative prognostic indicator for behavioral treatment of headaches. Despite the recognised comorbidity, there is a limited research literature evaluating interventions designed for comorbid headaches and depression. Sixty six participants (49 female, 17 male) suffering from migraine and/or tension-type headache and major depressive disorder were randomly allocated to a Routine Primary Care control group or a Cognitive Behavior Ther

[Contact behavior of elderly females living alone from the social psychologic viewpoint--an exploratory study. I: Theoretical and methodologic principles].

The authors specify the theoretical and methodical fundamentals of an exploratory study on the contact behaviour of older women living alone. As the method of examination they chose the fully standardized interview, by which all variables to be examined were covered. The sample consisted of 100 fit women aged 62 to 77 years not working any more and living alone, 80 of whom living in a residential district and 20 in an old-age home (in a city of the GDR).

Similar Adiposity Improvements but Different Eating Behavior and Mental Health Responses in Men and Women: A 12-Week Exploratory Study.

Background/Objectives: Despite growing recognition of sex as a biological variable that may influence responses to dietary interventions, many studies still pool data from women and men. Moreover, sex-stratified changes in eating behaviors and mental health following dietary interventions remain underexplored. This study aimed to describe sex-stratified changes in adiposity, eating behaviors, and mental health outcomes in men and women following a hypocaloric Mediterranean-style diet. Methods: A 12-week exploratory prospective longitudinal study was conducted in nineteen women and nine men wit

A head-mounted open-source light field microscope for large volumetric Ca2+ imaging during exploratory and social behavior in mice.

Capturing neuronal activity during natural behaviors in unrestrained animals is critical for understanding brain function, yet existing imaging systems struggle to combine volumetric field-of-view (v-FOV), high resolution, depth, and usability. We present MiniLFMv2, a lightweight, next-generation miniaturized light field microscope enabling volumetric imaging with a v-FOV of ⌀1 × 0.2 mm3, volume rates of up to 30 Hz and depth to ∼350-400 μm. MiniLFMv2 achieves near-diffraction-limited performance, with a working distance of 1 mm. Its custom aspheric lenses and electrically tunable lens elimina

An Exploratory Study of the Relationship Between Digit Ratio, Illusion of Control, and Risk-Taking Behavior Among Chinese College Students.

Previous studies on the relationship between digit ratio and risk-taking mainly focused on western subjects. Moreover, no researcher has examined the concurrent effect of digit ratio and illusion of control on gambling behavior. This exploratory study investigates the relationship between digit ratio, illusion of control and risk-taking behavior of Chinese subjects. Sixty-six students from a Chinese university were invited to answer a questionnaire and play a purposefully-designed betting game. The results show that the subjects' risk-taking level, measured in terms of average betting amount,

LLM-powered socially assistive robot-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy exercises: an exploratory study with university students.

Mental health is a significant healthcare challenge, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a widely used therapeutic method for treating anxiety and depression. However, traditional CBT often requires access to trained clinicians and can be cost-prohibitive or logistically difficult for many individuals. To address these barriers, we developed a low-cost socially assistive robot (SAR) that uses a large language model (LLM) to guide the user through interactive at-home CBT exercises. In this exploratory study, 38 university students completed CBT exercises across a 15-day period using one o

Miles with mind: an exploratory study of cognitive-behavioral-based VR training for strategy and motivation in long-distance running.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this exploratory study was to examine the potential effects of virtual reality (VR) mental training, based on cognitive-behavioral (CB) techniques, on race preparation among long-distance recreational runners within a sports coaching context. Although VR interventions have shown promises for enhancing athletic performance, their integration with CB-based imagery and self-talk remains limited. METHODS: Using a single-subject A-B-A design, six recreational runners completed two races: a first race without mental training and a second race after a series of VR mental

Other Momentary Substance Behaviors as Predictors of College Students' Prescription Drug Misuse in Daily Life: An Exploratory Study.

BACKGROUND: Limited prior research to examine co-occurrence of prescription drug misuse with other substances among young adults has documented outcomes that are more problematic for those with higher rates of co-ingesting alcohol. There is a need to understand how college students in this period of heightened risk use other salient substances in moments of their prescription misuse in daily life. METHOD: Young-adult college students who engaged in recent prescription misuse (N = 297) completed ecological momentary assessment (EMA) over a 28-day period, resulting in 23,578 reports. Multilevel

Vitamin C supplementation promotes locomotor and exploratory behaviors in male Wistar rats exposed to varying stress models.

Constant exposure to environmental stress has negative behavioral outcomes. Considering the inverse relationship between stress and Vitamin C intake, this study was aimed at investigating variable stress techniques and Vitamin C supplementation on exploratory/locomotor behaviors in male Wistar rats. Twenty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats (100g-120g) were allotted into four groups (n=7). Control received 10ml/kg distilled water, group two received 100 mg/kg vitamin C, group three was exposed to different models of stress while group four was stressed alongside 100 mg/kg vitamin C. Vitamin C trea

Men's Vasectomy Knowledge, Attitudes, and Information-Seeking Behaviors in the Southern United States: Results From an Exploratory Survey.

Vasectomy is one of the few options men have to manage their reproductive capacity and take on a more equitable role in pregnancy prevention. While the method is underused throughout the United States, the southern states have a lower prevalence rate compared to the rest of the country. Existing survey research does not assess what men know or think about the procedure as a means of understanding why this is the case. We created and conducted an exploratory survey to assess men's knowledge, attitudes, and information-seeking behaviors about vasectomy in the Southern United States. We used targ

Prior exposure to methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) induces serotonergic loss and changes in spontaneous exploratory and amphetamine-induced behaviors in rats.

The substituted amphetamine 3,4 methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) is a popular recreational drug of abuse. Administration of MDA to experimental animals has been shown to induce damage to serotonergic axons and nerve terminals. However, there is a lack of information on whether these treatments can produce any long-term changes in behavioural performance particularly under stressful conditions. In the present study, MDA (7.5 mg/kg; i.p.) was administered twice daily to adult male Sprague Dawley rats for four days. Four weeks following the last dose, spontaneous behaviors of these animals were tr

Exploratory Comparison of Behavior and Welfare-Related Indicators in Captive Lions (Panthera leo) Across Three Zoo Enclosures Using Machine-Learning Quantification.

Behavioral monitoring is central to welfare assessment but is difficult to conduct continuously. We used machine-learning-based video analysis to describe lion (Panthera leo) behavior across three zoo enclosures differing in available space, structural complexity and social composition. Interpretation of the Aalborg Zoo profile is additionally constrained by a major recent social change, as the enclosure's adult male was euthanized five days before data collection began. Continuous recordings collected over 10 days were processed with LabGym, filtered for low-confidence predictions and likely
