[Initial results using extracorporeal low energy shockwave therapy ESWT in muscle reflex-induced lock jaw].

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic reflex-mediated temporomandibular joint (TMJ) locking is one of the complications frequently observed after sophisticated and long dentoalveolar operations. Its severity can be up to 90%. Usually, therapy consists of mouth-opening exercises using tongue depressors. In difficult cases, the treatment regularly extends for weeks, often with only moderate improvement of this painful limitation. USE OF ESWT: In three cases, it was shown that supportive treatment utilizing low-energy shock waves (ESWT) is significantly effective in the therapy of limited opening of the mo

Management of Advanced Tricompartmental Knee Osteoarthritis With Degenerative Meniscal Pathology Using Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy, Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, Microfragmented Adipose Tissue, and Platelet-Rich Plasma.

Advanced tricompartmental knee osteoarthritis (OA) with degenerative meniscal tears and ligamentous insufficiency represents a considerably difficult presentation in non-surgical musculoskeletal medicine. Although total knee arthroplasty is the current standard for surgical intervention, many patients may prefer to first explore non-surgical options or may require interim symptom management prior to surgery. This report describes management of a complex case of advanced knee OA via a staged non-surgical protocol utilizing extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), extracorporeal magnetotransduct

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy versus Low-Level Laser Therapy in the Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Plantar fasciitis is predominantly treated conservatively through modalities such as extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and low-level laser therapy (LLLT), yet the short-term effect of these modalities on pain and function is still ambiguous. We compared the short-term effectiveness of ESWT and LLLT on pain and function in patients with plantar fasciitis. METHODS: Participants (n = 47) were randomly assigned to the ESWT group (n = 27) or the LLLT group (n = 20). Participants received ESWT (once a week) and LLLT (three times a week) for 3 weeks. The Foot Function Index, includ

Achilles Tendon Rupture Following Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy for Chronic Tendinopathy Despite Symptomatic Resolution: A Case Report.

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is widely used in the management of chronic Achilles tendinopathy (AT) and is associated with improved pain and functional outcomes. However, symptomatic recovery may not necessarily reflect restoration of tendon structural integrity or mechanical resilience. We report the case of a 61-year-old active male with a ten-year history of chronic mid-portion AT refractory to conservative management who underwent six sessions of radial ESWT, resulting in complete pain resolution and return to unrestricted sporting activity. Six months after completing treatment

ITGB1-Mediated Focal Adhesion Signaling Underlies the Chondroprotective Effects of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy in Knee Osteoarthritis.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the protective effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) on knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and clarify its molecular mechanism, focusing on focal adhesion signaling. DESIGN: KOA was induced in rats by anterior cruciate ligament transection, followed by ESWT once weekly for 4 sessions. Cartilage was analyzed by histology, immunohistochemistry, and extracellular matrix (ECM) marker expression. Primary chondrocytes were cultured to evaluate ESWT safety and effects on ECM metabolism. Bioinformatics analysis identified ITGB1 as a candidate regulator, and shRNA knockdo

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy compared with standard care for diabetic foot ulcer healing: An updated systematic review.

Emerging evidence suggests that extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) may improve time to DFU healing. The aim of this review was to appraise the evidence on role of ESWT in DFU healing and impact of different ESWT doses. Databases were searched for trials comparing ESWT plus standard care to standard care alone in participants with DFUs. Search results were reviewed by two independent reviewers. The Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 tool and GRADE approach was used to assess bias and certainty. The primary outcome was time to healing. The search identified 345 papers after duplicates removed. Six tri

[Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) in tendinosis calcarea of the rotator cuff. Long-term results and efficacy].

Calcifying tendinitis (TC) of the rotator cuff is a transient shoulder disease with a high rate of spontaneous resorption of the deposit. Therefore, primary treatment should be conservative. In cases of persistent pain despite conservative treatment, extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) can be performed as an alternative minimally invasive method. Various short-term studies have demonstrated the efficiency of ESWT for TC. To evaluate the short- and long-term results, complications, and the number of operations avoided by ESWT, a prospective study with 115 patients was performed over a peri
