A procoagulant metalloproteinase called CCSV-MPase was purified from C. cerastes venom by successive chromatographic methods starting with gel-filtration through Sephadex G-75; ion-exchange DEAE-Cellulose A-50; affinity chromatography on Benzamidine Sepharose 6B and RP-HPLC on a C8 column. Cerebral vasospasm (CVS) is a major contributor to the high morbidity and mortality of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) patients. The procoagulant effect of microparticles (MPs) contributes to hypercoagulability-induced thrombosis. We provide preliminary findings of the MPs-Activated Clotting Time (MPs-ACT) assay to determine the procoagulant activity of MPs. MPs-rich plasma was obtained and recalcified. Bothrops jararaca venom is approximately 3.5 times more effective at coagulating rabbit plasma than human plasma. We find that during 51 episodes of sickle cell painful crisis indirect bilirubin fell 52% from its steady state value of 2.3 +/- 1.9 mg% to a value of 1.1 +/- 0.37 mg% at the end of crisis (p less than .00000085). Leaky blood vessels are a hallmark of solid tumors. However, the molecular mechanisms and clinical implications of vascular leakage in human cancer remain unexplored. Here, we identified fibrinopeptide-A (FpA) as a robust in-situ marker of vascular leakage, analyzing diagnostic specimens from two non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cohorts (N = 327 and N = 200). Mechanistically, FpA+ staining localized to discrete stromal niches characterized by increased endothelial VEGF receptor-2 phosphorylation, elevated VEGFA production by tumor cells and loss of the endothelial tyrosine phosphatase PTPRB.

We report some biochemical features of barnettobin including the complete amino acid sequence that was deduced from the cDNA. Previous reports have given conflicting conclusions of the role platelets may play in initiating vaso-occlusive sickle cell crisis.
